  • SIMON BAKER has been Neil for me since I started reading! http://images5.fanpop.com/image/photos/31200000/Simon-simon-baker-31274658-473-690.jpg

Sorry, no shirtless photos in my search 🙁

Annnddd…. first night in Neil’s apartment? Intense, hot…. But mostly intense. How did others feel about it?

  • Rupert Graves is my Neil. There’s no two bits about that.

  • Rupert Graves? Wow, I hadn’t thought of him, but daaaaaaaaaaaaamn… yeah.

  • ANTHONY HEAD, bitches!

  • Daniel Craig or an older Micheal Fassbender

  • Anthony Head, definitely.

  • I’m going to go old school & vote for Clive Owen. I never get tired of looking at him.

  • Cliche… but Ian Somerhalder. I think his cheeky smirk would suit Neil.

  • Okay, I have been looking at various pictures and imagining the actors playing Neil as previous characters. Christian Bale playing Batman-as-Neil? Jason Isaacs playing Lucius-Malfoy-as-Neil? I love Anthony Head, but Giles-as-Neil gives me fits. So, really? Rupert Graves. Yes.

  • Can I second, third, and fourth all the Anthony Head comments. So hot.

  • ….Tom Cruise, the way he was in Collateral.

  • This man http://bit.ly/YlIYfI + Daniel Craig + Idris Elba

  • It’s not who I would pick, but who seems to be stuck in my head whenever I read the latest chapter. My husband has been watching TNG a lot lately, so it is usually what is on our TV when I’m reading. So Neil is Patrick Stewart in my headcanon.

  • I definitely see some combination of Simon Baker and Guy Pearce. But that’s strictly sticking to the description in the book. Now I’m going to think about Anthony Stewart Head and I will never be able to read a chapter of this book in public again.

  • Viggo Mortensen…He’s dead sexy and actually looks older. I just cannot picture him as anyone younger, because I think the age thing is key to Neil being so dominant and really knowing his way around the bedroom.

  • Paul McGann should play Neil Elwood and I would like to re-enact the following with pictorial proof for the court’s consideration:

I’ve been thinking about you Sophie. Really thinking about you. Don’t I look lonely over here all by myself? Get your ass over here. It will be lots of fun.

And if further proof is needed please allow me to enter into evidence this entire blog-post dedicated to seeing as much of Paul McGann as possible (NSFW)

I rest my case and request a short recess so the court may go change its panties. Sploosh.

  • Christopher Eccleston
    Robert Englund
    David Tennant
    Colin O’Donoghue

Or maybe Clive Owen…….My brain flips between them all when reading so…

  • MOLASSES you guys. This contest has turned unintentionally scorching.

  • Oh man! I take back what I said. To the person who posted pictures of Paul McGann, thank you! Especially in the first pic you posted. This is how I will see Neil from now on.

  • @Reese You’re welcome. It’s not like I would ever turn down Head (rim-shot) but Paul McGann…RAWR. There’s a sexy beast just raging in that man that makes you immediately think in prepositional phrases. As in I would like Paul McGann to f*** me: “bent over that desk” or “up against that wall” or “in the ladies room” or “before my husband/boyfriend/partner comes home” etc.

    That man. THAT. F***ING. MAN.

  • Here is my Neil. Daniel Gillies. Not famous enough to cause character confusion and he has that scorching yet endearing face. Neil has many sides and this guy it. http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3500124416/nm0319171

  • Gregory Peck a la To Kill a Mockingbird is Neil in my head.

  • Benedict Cumberbatch aka Sherlock Holmes . Ordering me to take off my dress with that deep voice of his makes my panties melt.

  • I picture him as Iain Glen…

Dirty blonde? Check. Accent? Check. Older? Check. Drop dead sexy? Check, definitely.

  • All I could think of when I started reading The Boss was Neil as a (younger) Jeremy Irons – specifically the way he looks in this photo – http://www.reduxpictures.com/website/images/dbfiles/8288/article.jpg

  • Clive Owen. Goddamn, that is one beautiful man.

  • Sting, although I can definitely get behind (or, y’know, under, in front of, on top of) Clive Owen as Neil.

  • My first thought was Daniel Craig or Christian Bale, but I think Ewan McGregor could do the role justice.

  • And Arjun Rampal too..my brain keeps switching and my breath keeps hitching. Ha!

  • Hugh Laurie would by my choice. He can be smooth and elegant and rumpled and sexy all at once.

  • I picture Neil looking like a blond John Slattery. That man can rock a suit like nobody’s bizness. He looks pretty damn good sans suit as well: http://newtoarea.tumblr.com/post/25224658884/drjohnsons-john-slattery-very-nice-butt

  • Man, I didn’t think of Hugh Laurie – thanks Carla.

Old fashioned I guess. I’ve got my 6’2″, blonde haired, blue eyed hubby in mind. :o)

  • I was picturing Jude Law for awhile but I like the suggestion of Christopher Eccleston. I can definitely see that. I also love David Tennant generally but I don’t really see him as Neil.

  • Jon Hamm. No contest.

  • Am I the only one going with Bruce Greenwood? Don’t know why but that man is fine… And sexy, with a calm, gentle authority about him. Hm, I could definitely see him as Neil.

  • Liam Neeson.

  • When I think of Neil, the first person to pop into my mind is Liam Neeson. Mmmmm, he is one lovely looking (and sounding) man.

  • Yup, I thought Liam Neeson, too. Good god, the man is just… well, here. Exhibit A. I rest my case.

  • Christopher Eccleston is a great suggestion, but not as the Doctor (though he is my favorite Doctor) more like Norfolk in Elizabeth, sans the whole trying to kill people thing (though he does make a fantastic bad guy), of course. I mean, the man makes silk tunics sexy and masculine for the love of god…

  • Gua

My Neil looks a lot like Chris Cornell. Couldn’t help it.

  • When I first started reading, I kept picturing Mr. Sheffield from “The Nanny,” maybe because he was my pregnancy crush (haha). Recently, I’ve been picturing Neil as Simon Merrels, who played Marcus Crassus in the 3rd season of Spartacus.

BTW some other hit guys from Spartacus:
    Manu Bennett
    Dustin Clare
    Liam McIntyre

Hugh Laurie is also a good pick 🙂

  • For some reason I always picture Dougray Scott playing Neil. He’s hot and I LOVED him in Ever After. I think he’d be perfect for the part.

  • I cannot see anyone but Anthony Head as Neil.

  • James McAvoy
    Daniel Craig
    Idris Elba…..
Sorry got lost in my thoughts!! 🙂

  • And since we are talking about sexy Brits, he may not be right for Neil but he’s drool-worthy…David Beckham!!

  • Daniel Craig!

  • Jude Law!

  • I’ve pictured Daniel Craig for a while but someone suggested Dougray Scott and now I can’t get him out of my head. He’s not dirty blonde but I’ve loved him so hardcore since Ever After that imagining him as Neil makes it slightly warmer in here…

  • Pierce Brosnan. You know, the Bond version. Yum.

  • Keeping him truly British, Anthony Head would be perfect but Colin Firth would be great, too.
MY personal Neil is Robert Downey Jr. The guy is simply MEOW ^^
But please let me suggest someone totally different. German actor Henning Baum, he doesn’t fit the description of Neil but have a look anyway: http://www.monstersandcritics.de/archiv/people.php/Henning_Baum/imagescreen/687301

  • Mark Sheppard, circa Battlestar Galactica; all slick and slightly haggard at the same time, and with that accent, omg that accent <3 I don't know why, because he doesn't exactly look like Neil's description (at all), but I always picture him ::sigh::

  • *content sigh* Mancandy. I’ve been busy perusing IMDB 🙂 I think I’m going to bookmark this post. LOL!

  • Neil = Jude Law
I just can’t stop my mind from going there 🙂

  • Seeing as Neil is a bit older, I think Dermot Mulroney would make a great Neil!

Also, imagine him doing an English accent! unf!

  • Someone suggested James Purefoy to me on the Boss blog once, and holy JEEEBUS.

  • David Tennant, just because I love Doctor Who that much.

  • I kept picturing Neal as Anthony Head, because Jenny said he was Neilfor her. Unfortunately, I don’t find Anthony even remotely hot, so I think that the best Neal-s (for me anyway), would be either Simon Baker or Jude Law.
While RDJ is one of the hottest man over 40 for me, I just can’t see him as Neal. Don’t get me wrong, I can totally see him as a hot, rich dominant, but not as Neal. And I am sorry to all fans, but while Ewan Mccgregor is certainly plesant to look at, he isn’t Neal either. He looks to sweet, and – for lack of a better term – “vanilla” to be Neal.

  • Ioan Gruffudd is my Neil.

  • I know he’s far too young, nearly twenty years too young, but I shamelessly cram in my Tom Hiddleston crush when I read The Boss. Not the most obscure or thought-out answer, and will probably get some eye-rolls, but it’s mostly because of this.

I mean, Jesus. He’s voicing a really nasty character for that bit but… ooh.

  • Robert Downey Jr.

  • Oh never mind, watched Ep. 9 of Roadhouse and was TOTALLY reminded of Ray Stevenson (a.k.a Titus Pullo).

    Aaahhh, Ray Stevenson.

  • That actor who plays the President on Scandal

  • Anthony Head with a touch of Anthony Hopkins. That’d be epic.

Or Clive Owen, although he strikes me as being a bit youngish for how I envision Neil. But he does make great eyecandy.

  • There’s just so many good choices for Neil. James Purefoy and Ray Stevenson are who I usually picture. Dougray Scott is a good choice too. Hugh Laurie is also incredibly attractive, but I don’t know if he works as Neil for me.

  • Anthony Head, of course – I’m with you on that one. (And am re-watching Buffy with a new appreciation . . .)

  • I see Alexander Skarsgard as Neil…make him a little older looking and bam! I see him in my head while reading.

  • This is weird (since I’m not a huge fan of him), but Jason Statham.

He’s gorgeous. Plus, the only reason I don’t like him is that he alway plays the same damn character. He’d rock this one, though!

(Honorable mentions: A slightly older Ralph Fiennes or the ever-cliched Hugh Grant)

  • @Thea: I think, RDJ can play every role, but I wouldn’t picture him as Neil in a movie. But he’s my Neil, because he’s been in my fantasy for ages 😉
Jenny put Anthony in my head and I couldn’t get him out for a while. IMO he IS Neil and I found a picture (declared as fanart) that cemented him as Neil. ^^
Hugh Laurie… he looks delicious as Gregory House. But I see Neil cleanshaven on working days and Hugh cleanshaven makes me rather laugh, so not sexy at all. Sorry :/
And I have to withdraw Colin Firth from my own suggestions. While he would make a great Neil- at- work, I just can’t see him spanking someone.^^

  • Oh, I second Viggo Mortensen or Clive Owen.

  • @Nicole: THANK YOU, because I seriously thought I was the only one with Ewan Mcgregor in mind. Tasty! 😉

  • It’s always Oded Fehr in my head because he’s the right age, the right look, and his hotness is off the charts!

  • When I started reading The Boss, I couldn’t stop thinking of Neil as Eric Dane (see in all his towel clad glory here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYw75SZbIkI).
I know he doesn’t look old enough to have an adult daughter and he’s about 8 years younger than Neil is supposed to be but… That’s my Neil.

  • Richard Armitage – http://mystarclub.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/richard-armitage-sexy.jpg

He can do smoldering very, very well.

  • Okay, Jason Statham as Neil totally works!!

  • Pierce Brosnan is my Neil… Yum.

  • Gideon Emery. Better known as a voice actor, but *yum.*

  • It’s always been Anthony Head (Giles-era) in my head. I do love some of the other suggestions though!

  • I love a lot of these ideas for Neil. I think the one I can see best is Daniel Craig.

  • I just finished watching the latest episode of “Revenge”… and then I noticed that the guy who plays Aiden (Barry Sloane) would make an amazing Neil. Sure, he’s not old enough I guess, but hot damn! Plus, he’s British

  • So I’m pretty sure no one here has heard of him, but Adam Howden. He’s a bit too young, but he does have the gorgeous English accent (and that’s coming from someone who doesn’t find English accents particularly attractive). Plus he has probably the most gorgeous eyes of any man ever.

  • Wow, guys. Lots of hot choices!

  • I totally see Anthony Head playing Neil. This may or may not be influenced by my re-watching Buffy along with Jenny, but regardless I have always found Mr. Head quite attractive in a “the thought of him amid musty old books does tingly things to my naughty bits” way.

(Side note I only started reading The Boss tonight and I finished the first seven chapters. The only reason I haven’t finished the rest is because it’s 3:30 am and I desperately need to sleep, but never fear, as soon as I wake up I’ll be reading the next seven chapters and then champing at the bit for the rest.)

  • Sean Bean. Definitely Sean Bean. He’s the right age, sexy beyond ALL reason, and plays both a fantastic hero and a terrifying villain. Rowr.

  • Jacques Gamblin, language barrier be damned. For your consideration: http://imgur.com/Y4Lfm4t

  • Hugh Jackman!

  • Sean Bean is an excellent suggestion. I should have known who he was by name but I didn’t, so I googled him- and there are some pictures that perfectly capture how I picture Neil. In fact, as much as I love James Purefoy and Ray Stevenson, and I totally wouldn’t object to visualizing the sexy Jason Statham, Daniel Craig, or Alexander Skarsgard as Neil… I think Sean Bean has officially moved to the top of my list.

  • Rupert Penry Jones (Adam from Spooks) – not only is he English but also in his forties and perfect. Google him 🙂

  • I’m thinking that Henry Cavill or Jude Law would be great as Neil. Hugh Grant could work, or maybe even Christian Bale. Oh, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers too. I’d be happy with any of these guys…

  • I was picturing Anthony Head the whole time since that’s who Jenny mentioned once upon a time in a blog post. However, I’ve been indulging in some image searches with all the above suggestions and I have to whole heartedly support the Dermot Mulroney, Eric Dane, Guy Pearce and Sean Bean suggestions. Also, I can’t believe no one has put Norman Reedus up for mention (or did I miss him?)

  • Pierce Brosnan. I really have no idea if anyone else has said him…but this is what I picture every time I read a new chapter.

  • Tim Roth.

I adore him in everything he does, and since the first time hearing about Neil, that’s what has been stuck in my head.. in so many amazing ways.

  • JJ

Alexis Denisof or Iain Glen. A bit of a curveball but I also think Chiwetel Ejiofor would be the tits.

    That would be SO HOT!
    And he’s an incredible actor.

    Picture 1

    Picture 2

    Picture 3

  • k

I agree with the Simon Baker fans here – with the smile and the hair and the face and his general existence.

Although I did start to play around with the idea of Guy Pearce, too, after seeing him all dolled up rich-guy style in Iron Man 3… Not that Aldrich Killian and Neil have a whole lot in common, personality-wise, but then again, you couldn’t convince me that Killian isn’t harboring a love for nipple clamps. That’s all I’m saying.

  • JAG

I generally picture the man with whom I had a very similar relationship, for fairly obvious reasons. Pretty easy to picture someone spanking you when they’ve actually done it. 🙂

As for ideal casting – Simon Baker has the right look I think, but he seems too nice for my taste. I’m not sure Clive Owen could pull off blonde but that would be totally fine with me. Or if we can time travel, Charles Shaughnessy about 15 years ago.

  • Loving the boss, and can’t wait for the next chapter! Picturing Kevin McKidd as Neil!

  • Vincent Cassel!!
He’ll always be the one I picture Neil as. Probably because I imagine him being able to engage in all kinds of kinky sex and still be sweet as fuck!

  • Kenneth Branagh

  • Bruce Greenwood- the guy who plays Admiral Pike in the new Star Wars. He’s hot without being too young, and I could SO see him playing a Dom…damn…
