Saturday Conversations

I’m on Vacation!

Greetings from sunny Florida! My family and I are visiting my folks who have a home in Florida. The 80* weather and sunshine are a far cry from the endless snowfalls and winter chill from back home. We’ve spent our first few days at the pool, going for walks, and hanging at the beach.

One thing I always hope to do while on any vacation is read, and so far, I’ve finished one book. That’s about par for the course; however, it seems that I read less on vacation then when at home. During the day, I’m always busy with the kids, and by nighttime, I’m too tired to read. But if I have a really good book, I manage to find time!

During this vacation, I’m trying to get ahead on my review books. Luckily, I’ve selected books that I want to read, which makes the whole reading experience more enjoyable. What about you?

What kind of books do you like to read while on vacation? Do you pick up new titles, ones that you’ve had on your TBR for a while, or tried and true favorites? Do you find that you have more or less time to read while on vacation?

Thanks for stopping by to chat!

I’ve done a little of everything. Every year I go to a cabin in Canada without electricity, so there is tons of reading. I’ve done new authors, continued series, re-reads. My big thing is to make sure I take plenty of extras so I know I won’t run out. I have no way to get more books if I run out. That happened once and it sucked.

    • Now that would be great, if I didn’t have my kids with me! Although, I would want electricity for things like kindle and charging the phone. I don’t know that I could go without the internet for long! LOL

We do have batteries and solar panels, so I can charge ereaders and listen to radio. No internet unless we go to the marina, which is about 40 minutes away. Very relaxing. Just me, hubs and the dog.

  • Sounds like you’re having a wonderful vacation! I always think I’m going to have long, lazy reading days on vacation…but it never happens. That said, I do manage to get a few shorter reading sessions in: on the plane, when the toddler is napping, in the evenings. I read anything but often read ones that have been on my TBR for a while. Enjoy the sunshine, Jen.

    • Thanks Anna! I did get a bit read on the airplane this time, so that was good. We are having a lovely trip!

Depends on what my vacation is. If we are going to a family place in the mountains or the beach – it’s a relaxing vacation so I have more time to read. If we are going on an adventure vacation (Disneyland, etc) then I have less time to read because we are on the move. If I have “free reading” time, in other words, I’m a head on my blog reading, I will usually reread a book or two and try to read something from my TBR as well.
