Sign up for AUGUST!

Welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group during 2015. For the months of July – September 2015, Felicia will be hosting the official check-ins. This is my weekly check-in post where I share about my week, and I hope you share about yours as well. You can also catch Felicia’s weekly check-in HERE.

If you have a weekly check-in blog post or put your updates on any social media site, please leave a link to your check-in posts in the comment section, below. Or, if you want to use this post as your weekly check-in, leave a comment telling us how your week went!

My Week:

While we are still on summer vacation here, I can tell school and work are getting close. We spent the week at various doctors’ appointments, school shopping, etc. I spent a lot of time in the car, and I feel like I didn’t get anything done, but I did get some walking in. I started listening to the first Dresden Files book by Jim Butcher, narrated by James Marsters, which was so engrossing that I probably walked a few extra steps each day just so I could keep listening.

My Movement*:
Friday: no exercise, 6,979 steps/day
Saturday: 47 minutes walking, 11,174 steps/day
Sunday: 61 minutes walking, 12,505 steps/day
Monday: 38 minutes walking, 10,013 steps/day
Tuesday: 50 minutes walking, 10,207 steps/day
Wednesday: 30 minutes walking, 12,688 steps/day
Thursday: 53 minutes Body Flow + 56 minutes walking, 11,725 steps/day

* I track two different goals. The first goal is a timed duration of exercise – moving with the intent to raise my heart rate and get in some cardiovascular work. This is what I’m mean when I say “45 minutes walking.” The second goal is total daily steps. This is from my Fitbit, which measures all steps from 12:00AM – 11:59PM, exercise included.

I love listening to the Dresden files, and it really does keep a person moving. I just started a re-listen to the first book the other day. I am on will be on book 14 when my audible credits pop up later in the month.

So, after a summer of walking my feet off, eating vegetarian and checking in, I have gained 10 pounds. Isn’t that awful? So, I am going to have to change the way I exercise, and eat. Adding more active minutes, and saying goodbye to cheese. I guess I have to pull out the scale once a week, instead of just going by how I feel.

    • I have the first 4 Dresden books, and my library has some too, but I can tell this is one I’m going to be addicted to!

Hmmm… Have you talked with your doctor about the weight gain? I weigh myself once/week to keep a good check on things. It’s okay and healthy to go by “feel,” but if you are trying to stay at or below a specific weight, checking more frequently can help. Just don’t get obsessed. Sometimes we gain weight if we don’t eat enough or the right balance of foods. Talking to your doctor may give you answers. But until then, continue the walking and positive attitude!!

The good thing about starting the Dresden books now is that as recently as of March, James Marsters re-recorded the only book that had been narrated by someone else.

Thanks for the support. I am going to jazz up the walking, with some light running on the treadmill. I think just the walking is not enough.

      • I understand what you mean about the “just walking,” I feel the same way. Today I fit in some jogging while on my walk.

  • Good week 🙂

    • Thanks. It didn’t feel like it, I feel like I should be doing more… but I guess it’s not that bad!
