#FitReaders Check-In: December 11, 2015

Sign up for DECEMBER!

Welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group during 2015. For the rest of 2015 (October – December), I will be hosting the official check-ins. This is my weekly check-in post where I share about my week, and I hope you share about yours as well.

If you have a weekly check-in blog post or put your updates on any social media site, please leave a link to your check-in posts in the comment section, below. Or, if you want to use this post as your weekly check-in, leave a comment telling us how your week went! (I only use the linky on the monthly commitment posts, for the weekly posts, I use the comments.)

Coming soon…

Christmas Walk 2016Join Felicia and me on our #ChristmasWalk on Friday December 25th. This will be just like the #ThanksgivingWalk we did a couple weeks back. No matter where you live or whether or not you celebrate Christmas, the idea is to get in your steps on this traditionally slow-moving, food-filled holiday. SO… here’s how to participate:

  • Get in your exercise on December 25, 2015 – it doesn’t matter how big or small, just do it! Either while you are exercising, or after, tweet about it using the hashtags #ChristmasWalk #StrutMyStuff and/or #FitReaders
  • There will be a check-in on December 25th (the last one of 2015!). Using the comment section, leave your name and what you did for your #ChristmasWalk.
  • Once you have completed your walk (or other exercise) and completed your check-in, there will be an awesome award badge for you to download, and you can display it with pride.

Meanwhile, feel free to repost this graphic and instructions on your own blog/website. I’ll be talking about it until the day for the #ChristmasWalk.

My Week:

I am pretty surprised at the number of steps I was able to get in this week. And, except for today, I’ve been eating pretty well. I’m actually down a couple pounds – which is good news going into the last half of the month. My goal will be to continue to get in 10K steps each day and try my best to limit junk food calories Monday – Thursday.

My Movement*:
Friday: three walks totaling 57 minutes, 14,568 steps/day
Saturday: one walk totaling 21 minutes, 10,234 steps/day
Sunday: one walk totaling 30 minutes, 11,425 steps/day
Monday: one walk totaling 61 minutes, 17,858 steps/day
Tuesday: three walks totaling 43 minutes, 12,352 steps/day
Wednesday: two walks totaling 51 minutes, 12,458 steps/day
Thursday: 55 minutes Body Flow + one walk totaling 39 minutes, 12,050 steps/day

* I track two different goals. The first goal is a timed duration of exercise – moving with the intent to raise my heart rate and get in some cardiovascular work. This is what I’m mean when I say “45 minutes walking.” The second goal is total daily steps. This is from my Fitbit, which measures all steps from 12:00AM – 11:59PM, exercise included.

Questions for YOU!

How was your week? Did you hit any milestones? Try a new food or workout? Celebrate your week with us!

  • I am totally in and this week I hit my goals too 🙂

    • Awesome! You are doing a daily step goal, right? Keep it up!!

  • Great steps and congrats on being down a few lbs! That definitely helps when you’re going into the holidays, especially with all the yummy foods. 🙂 I am going to try to run on Christmas morning, but with a 5 year old, it may be hard. I don’t want to ruin my running streak, so even if I only manage one mile, I still hope to get it in!

    • You can do it! If your daughter is like my kids, you will be done with gift opening by 8:00AM! Then you can slip out for a short run before brunch! Great job!

  • I haven’t been great on my steps, but I lost some weight because DH was gone and I don’t eat as much while he’s gone and I don’t cook. Hoping to get my steps higher next week with him back home and a more normal schedule. Yay! for #ChristmasWalk.

    • I tend to eat worse when the hubs is traveling – convenience foods and all!

  • Awesome stepping and great idea for Christmas – will certainly be happy to join in. My Week

  • Kristin T.

I’ll try my best to get a walk in…I’ll be at my in-laws, but I should be able to get do it. Christmas day is usually pretty quiet – Christmas Eve is the big event for us! Hopefully the weather will cooperate 🙂

I’ve been hitting my step goals, too – having lots of errands to do this past week helped with that!

    Here’s my check-in: http://alwayswithabook.blogspot.com/2015/12/fitreaders-weekly-check-in-december-11.html

    • Great! I am planning to get in the walk after gifts and breakfast, before the in-laws arrive!

  • Christina T

Great job with your goals this week! I haven’t checked my weight in awhile. I was doing good with my eating but this past week I finally gave in and had a few holiday treats. Right now I can hear those Oreo Chex Muddy Buddies calling my name!

I want to get a Fitbit and am hoping to purchase one next year to track my steps all day and not just my workouts (I use a Leslie Sansone one).

    • Maybe Santa will bring you a Fitbit! 😉 And please share – what are Oreo Chex Muddy Buddies?!

      • Christina T

I’ve been eyeing the Fitbit One which is currently on sale and may give in and buy it now. Chex Muddy Buddies are a sweet kind of Chex Mix you can buy in the snack aisle. The Oreo kind has crushed up cookie bits and powdered sugar and chocolate I believe. They are addicting so I ended up bringing the rest of the bag to work to share with my coworkers!

You aced it Jen! Yay for organising a Christmas walk, I’m in, have to try and offset the Christmas eatathon. Love the graphic 🙂

    • Thanks! It will be lots of fun. Felicia designs all of the graphics. She’s got talent!!

  • Gayle Cochrane

    Good week for you.
I need to get moving, I am slipping into hibernation mode and that is not what I want. My fitbit app has been on the fritz so I am in denial about how few steps I’ve probably been taking.
    Love the Christmas walk idea.

    • Oh no! So I suggest trying mini-walks throughout the day. 5-10 minutes a piece, a few times a day can make a difference. See if you can work one or more into your day!

  • I was only about a day’s worth of walking away from hitting my goal! Here’s my check-in for the week: http://fortifiedbybooks.com/2015/12/15/fitreaders-check-in-50/

    • So close! Next week, right?!

      • I’m so determined to find a job right now so I can hopefully start working after New Year’s Day, so I highly doubt it. I know I should make time to get exercise, but I more worried about my financial situation than my weight/fitness.

      • Understandable – don’t get down on yourself and keep getting in steps when you can!! *hugs*
