Sign up for January!

Welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group for another year! For the the first quarter of 2016 (January – March), Felicia will be hosting the official check-ins. This is my weekly check-in post where I share about my week, and I hope you share about yours as well.

If you have a weekly check-in blog post or put your updates on any social media site, please leave a link to your check-in posts in the comment section, below.

NEW FOR 2016:

For 2016, Felicia and I will continue to have weekly check-ins at both blogs on Fridays. For the first quarter (January – March), the “official” check-ins will be on Felicia’s blog, but you are welcome to leave messages at either/both blogs, Facebook, or Twitter. We will alternate every other quarter, just like in 2015. Additionally, we are adding a new component to #FitReaders during 2016… The Virtual 5k and 10k Race Series + 1 mile Fun Run!  2016-Virtual-5K-medals-398x400

For more information about this fun event, visit the FitReaders info page at Felicia’s blog, and to log in your January “races,” visit the January Virtual Finish Line and post your achievement to the Virtual Finish Line. Each month there will be a virtual ribbon for every finisher, which you can display proudly on your check-ins. If at the end of the year you have completed 10 of the 12 races, you will get an actual medal (see photo) or certificate (1 mile).

You do NOT have to compete in the Virtual 5k and 10K Race Series to participate in #FitReaders. This is an optional component to the #FitReaders group.

My Week:

This was another good week, and I’ve been able to keep up my 10,000+ days. I had wanted to get in my 10k (6.2 miles) “race” this week, but after 5 miles on Monday, it was too cold and dark out to keep going. Maybe next week! I’ve also been doing a good job tracking, and other than a calorie-filled night out last Saturday, I’ve been doing pretty good. In fact, I’m back down to pre-holiday weight. How about you? Did you accomplish a 1 mile, 5k, or 10k race this week?

My Movement*:
Friday: two walks totaling 55 minutes, 11,832 steps/day
Saturday: one walk totaling 60 minutes, 12,611 steps/day
Sunday: no exercise, 4,276 steps/day
Monday: one walk totaling 73 minutes (5.11 miles), 16,116 steps/day
Tuesday: two walks totaling 49 minutes, 10,659 steps/day
Wednesday: three walks totaling 48 minutes, 11,561 steps/day
Thursday: 53 minutes Body Flow + one walk totaling 40 minutes, 13,000+ steps/day

* I track two different goals. The first goal is a timed duration of exercise – moving with the intent to raise my heart rate and get in some cardiovascular work. This is what I’m mean when I say “45 minutes walking.” The second goal is total daily steps. This is from my Fitbit, which measures all steps from 12:00AM – 11:59PM, exercise included.

  • Awesome week and yay for getting back on track!! I feel like I’m doing a lot better this week calorie-wise. I ate pretty well and hit my steps most days. I’m maintaining within the same 3 lbs (I fluctuate 3 lbs every month) so I’m happy with it. As long as I don’t go over that! Lol. You did great!!

    • Thanks!! I think we all needed a week to figure out how to come down from the holidays.

I keep within a 3 pound window as well, and I like that over the past several months, that 3 pound window has shifted lower, so my average weight now is about 3 pounds less than 6 months ago.

  • Great week for you!

    • Thanks!! Each day is a new challenge!

  • Oh yes my 10 k, well that was sure a bust this week. You do not want to end a walk crying

    • No, that would be bad. Maybe this week I’ll get in a 10k.

  • Glad you had a great week. I did not. I lost the charger for my Fitbit. I’m hoping the new one is delivered today. I also had to work through lunches when I normally get walks in and just couldn’t bring myself to workout after crappy days at work. Next week is a new week. So it will be better. 🙂

    • it’s kind of scary how addicted I’ve become to my Fitbit. Next week is a clean start – you can do it!

Great job this week! I wish I could walk 5 miles. Maybe I’ll get there later this year. Right now I’m sticking with my Leslie Sansone workout video.

I was eating healthier but I started snacking more over the weekend and made some bad food choices. I hope to get back on track tomorrow. I’d gained some weight over Christmas and I’ve lost a little of it but I still need to lose more. My metabolism is pretty sluggish.

    • You are here, doing FitReaders and that is the first “step” to reaching your goals! One day at a time!

It is Monday now and I can tell you that Friday-Sunday were awful for me! I didn’t meet my step goal 2 days and ate well over my caloric intake goal. *sigh* It is very much two steps forward, one step back!

  • Kristin T.

Great week!!! I had a fun day walking around NYC on Monday on my way to jury duty and then got dismissed…yay – no more jury duty!!! Now if I can only find some actual races to participate in near me, I’ll be good to go…until then, the treadmill is my best friend 😉

    • Yea! Sounds like it ended up being a fun time. Glad you are enjoying yourself. It snowed here last night… I am going to have to break down and use the elliptical for some exercise because I have only walked once in the past three days!

  • Wow you keep such detailed records. I’m walking this week. Got a Fitbit so trying that out to track things. Not to 10,000 a day but slowly increasing 🙂

    • Thanks. I’m a bit of a list-maker and very OCD when it comes to some things. LOL. If you want to find me on Fitbit, you can send the request to twimom227 at gmail dot com. Yea!!
