Welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group for another year! I’m hosting check-ins from April through June 2016, and you’ll find the check-ins every Friday right here.

I only use the linky for the monthly Commit to Exercise posts, so please use the comment section below for your check-in. You can leave a link to your own weekly check-in blog post or any social media site in the comment section. Or if you prefer, use the comment section as your own weekly check-in space.

Also, if you have any questions about #FitReaders, you can leave them in the comment section or email me at twimom227(at)gmail(dot)com.

Important News: Did you miss a month finishing your Virtual 5k or 10k Race or your 1 mile Fun Run? Did you recently join #FitReaders? Here’s your chance to make up those races! From now until the end of the year, you can count two races each month towards completing the race series. The first 1 mile, 5k, or 10k will be counted for the month it is completed, and the second 1 mile, 5k, or 10k can be used as a “make up” for a missed month. Just be sure to log in the comments of the finish line linky page which month the make up race is for. Questions? let me know.

My Week:

GOOD NEWS! My calves and achilles are showing improvement this week. I was even able to walk a 5k on Tuesday. While my speed has slowed considerably, I am making sure to stop and stretch while walking, and also stretch after I’m done. Additionally, I got a new insert in my shoes that should help with the rolling of my foot back and forth, and therefore, improve my achilles tendonitis. I’m feeling better about my walking. I also am down a pound, and maybe, finally getting rid of some of that extra weight I put on in February.

One small accomplishment – I’ve met my daily step goal (10,000 steps) every day since May 14 – so over one month! And I’ve only missed 2 days since April 9th. I am going to try to hit 10,000 steps for all of June, but a 2-day car trip at the end of the month may derail that.

My Movement*:

June-2016-5K-274x400Friday: two walks totaling 25 minutes, 10,530 steps/day
Saturday: one walk totaling 39 minutes, 12,830 steps/day
Sunday: one walk totaling 32 minutes, 11,722 steps/day
Monday: one walk totaling 32 minutes, 11,161 steps/day
Tuesday: one walk totaling 48 minutes (5k), 12,415 steps/day
Wednesday: two walks totaling 45 minutes, 13,658 steps/day
Thursday: 50 minutes Body Flow + one walk totaling 42 minutes, 12,000+ steps/day

* I track two different goals. The first goal is a timed duration of exercise – moving with the intent to raise my heart rate and get in some cardiovascular work. This is what I’m mean when I say “45 minutes walking.” The second goal is total daily steps. This is from my Fitbit, which measures all steps from 12:00AM – 11:59PM, exercise included.

How was your week? What were you successes? What were your challenges? Be sure to stop over at Felicia the Geeky Blogger blog to check in with her.

  • Yay, I’m glad things are better for you!! So awesome that you’ve met your goal every day since May! That’s awesome!!

    • Thanks Brandie! I was pretty excited when I went back and looked. I credit the new Alta hourly buzzing “alarm” to keep me moving throughout the day.

  • Yay for your legs healing! And way to go with your steps! That’s fantastic!
    Here’s my FitReaders check-in.

    • Thanks! I think I jinxed myself after writing this. My legs were hurting awful last night – but I’ll blame it on the yoga and p/t all in one day!

  • Gayle Cochrane

That is good news, about your improvement. I had a couple of slow weeks, because of some family stuff, but things should look up next week . I may even start posting my updates on my own blog. Knock on wood.

    • yea! Glad to see things are looking up. I look forward to hearing more!

  • gk nelson

That’s great that the legs are better. Hoping for continued improvement.

I don’t think I made my goal once this week. My fitbit is losing steps again so I have contacted their support since I see that I am not the only one with the issue. No gym or social run this week. Hoping next week is some sort of normal. We get results on my dad’s biopsy Monday.

I did survive my biggest class so far in the pool, now we are off to the lake this weekend. so much adulting. LOL

    • My mom’s Fitbit loses steps as well. I need to check back with her to see if it’s better. I told her to sync her Fitbit multiple times during the day to see if that helps.

  • WTG! And I’m so glad they are doing better.

  • I’m finally under 200 lbs! Here’s my weekly check-in -https://fortifiedbybooks.com/2016/06/17/fitreaders-check-in-67/

    • That’s such great news!! CONGRATS!!

  • Denise

You’re rocking at your steps! Way to go! My check in is here: http://somanybookssolittletimeblog.blogspot.com/2016/06/fitreaders-weekly-check-in-10.html

  • Shandy Jo

I’m so glad to hear that things are going better for you. I’m impressed with your numbers. Way to Go!!

    • Thank you. I’ve been working hard on getting in my steps. I hope to keep up for the rest of the month.

  • Kristin T.

So glad you things are getting better for your legs!!! That must be a huge weight lifted off you 🙂 I’ve made 10K steps every day except once since May 1 and that was because of a 6-hour car ride, graduation ceremony and family party – and it just happened yesterday, so you’ll see that in next weeks check-in. Oh well…it happens. Have a great week!

    Here’s my check-in: http://alwayswithabook.blogspot.com/2016/06/fitreaders-weekly-check-in-june-17.html

    • Thanks! One thing I’ve noticed is that I used to have to take extra steps, especially at night, on several days to hit 10k. Now, I’m there before dinner most times!

  • Happy to hear you’re getting some improvement with your condition, and yay for hitting your goal every day since May 14th! That’s awesome. Traveling by car does make it hard to reach your goal, but if you’re able to get some walking in before you leave it helps.

I think the heat is going to be an issue for me this next week. Today we’re hitting 108 degrees and I tried to get out early enough to beat that, but I still was dying at 8:30 am. I guess I should’ve got out earlier, but who wants to get up so early on a Sunday? Tomorrow it’s supposed to be even hotter: 111 degrees, ugh!

    • It’s been getting warm here, as well. I never have had a big problem with walking in the summer, but this year, I’ve noticed I’m struggling a little in the heat. We’ll see.

  • Wow! Congrats on the steps!
