June Is Audiobook Month

Each June, audiophiles from around the country celebrate all things audiobook. Since we love to listen and review audiobooks here at That’s What I’m Talking About, we are participating in our own Audiobook celebration.

What would an audiobook be without a narrator? As part of Audiobook Month, we are spotlighting various narrators so you can learn a bit more about who they are and what they do.

Narrator Spotlights!

Today we shine the spotlight on:

J Rodney Turner

Do you have a pseudonym you’d like to share?

I have one but I’m keeping it a secret as long as I’m able.

Tell us how long have you been narrating books?

4 years

What genres do you cover? Do you have a favorite?

Historical Fiction, Mystery / Suspense / Thriller, Westerns, and Romance Westerns, and Historical Fiction set in the post Civil War 1800’s are my favorite.

Do you do any other voice work or acting?

Commercials and Promo.

What is your favorite job to date?

The work my pseudonym is doing in the Romance Genre.

How do prepare for a job? Does the preparation depend on the genre or type of book?

My preparation is the same for all of my work. I read the title, scanning for potholes or places where I might stub my tongue and look for pronunciation issues of places and names — especially if the author is attempting to be historically accurate.

If you could narrate any book or work with any author past or present, what would you choose? Why?

Louis L’Amour — my father raised me on Louis L’Amour, Zane Grey and John Wayne — and Mr. L’Amour’s work stands out among all genres as being some that will last and will be enjoyed for many lifetimes.

Anything else you’d like to share?

My most recent release is a Mystery Thriller set in a small Tennessee town where werwolves come to town — written by author Ronald Kelly — Undertaker’s Moon!

About the Narrator:

I’m a retired air traffic controller who is now using my voice for other than keeping the skies safe over Middle Tennessee. I enjoy telling stories and helping listeners hear what an author saw in their mind when they wrote the story.
