Author Interview: Jennifer Estep

Author Interview: Jennifer Estep Hello Readers! Today I bring you author Jennifer Estep. Jennifer writes the Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series for Pocket Books and the Mythos Academy young adult urban fantasy series for Kensington. She is also the author of the Bigtime paranormal romance series.  Jennifer is a Southern gal through and through: sassy, sarcastic, and just a tad crazy. She spent her formative years doing the usual kid things – playing, hanging out with friends, and making up wild stories in her head. She says that it’s the last one that’s gotten her into trouble. Now, after many, many years of toil and trouble, Jennifer has achieved her dream of being a bona fide, published, fiction author. She says that she plans to keep on keeping on – writing, dreaming, making up wild stories in her head. And getting herself into trouble. Widow’s Web, the seventh Elemental Assassin story, released last week. Keep reading to learn more about this story and be sure to check out my review of Widow’s Web HERE. And for a chance to win a copy of Widow’s Web, keep reading! Please help me welcome Jennifer to That’s What I’m Talking About. Twimom: Jennifer, welcome and thank you for stopping by. Jennifer: Thanks for hosting me on your blog. I appreciate it. Twimom: Okay, as you know, I am a late-comer to Gin (heroine of the Elemental Assassin series), and I want to thank you for your patience and for being helpful finding me a great entry point with the novella, Thread of Death. Although I was able to easily jump into your wonderful series at that point, can you give me (and my readers) some background about Gin, the Elementals and your series? Jennifer:  Thanks for all the nice words about my books. I appreciate them. The Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series focuses on Gin Blanco, an assassin codenamed the Spider who can control the elements of Ice and Stone. When she’s not busy killing people and righting wrongs, Gin runs a barbecue restaurant called the Pork Pit in the fictional Southern metropolis of Ashland. The city is also home to giants, dwarves, vampires, and elementals – Air, Fire, Ice, and Stone. Twimom: What does the future hold for Gin and the Elemental Assassin series? Jennifer: Widow’s Web, the seventh book in the series, was published on Aug. 21. I can’t say too much about that book, other than that I do have a plan for Gin and...

Author Interview: Shiloh Walker

Author Interview: Shiloh Walker Today I have the honor of bringing to you paranormal and suspense romance author Shiloh Walker. Shiloh has been writing since she was a kid. She fell in love with vampires with the book Bunnicula and has worked her way up to the more…ah…serious works of fiction. She loves reading and writing anything paranormal, anything fantasy, and nearly every kind of romance.  Once upon a time she worked as a nurse, but now she writes full time and lives with her family in the Midwest.  She writes paranormal and contemporary romance, as well as romantic suspense. Please help me welcome Shiloh toThat’s What I’m Talking About.  Twimom: Shiloh, welcome and thank you for stopping by. Shiloh: Thanks so much for having me…! Twimom: I’m very excited to have this chance to chat. I’ve been a twitter follower for a couple years, but just recently read my first Shiloh Walker book, The Departed. I LOVED the story and started adding some of your books to my TBR pile. You have an EXTENSIVE backlist, do you have a favorite book or series? Can you pick one of your series and tell my readers a bit more about it? Shiloh: Oh, that’s hard…I’m partial to my Grimm series…I bastardize fairy tales in that one, but I know not everybody loves paranormal like I do.  The Departed is one my FBI Psychic books and that’s a good series to start with, I guess…it’s more of a reality-based paranormal, the characters are psychics who work for a special task force for the FBI.  So far, there are just two stories, The Missing and The Departed but there’s a novella due out this summer in the Hot in Handcuffs anthology and then another full-length book due out next year, I believe. Twimom: During this month is the release of one of your Hunters Series books, Hunter’s Rise. Can you share more about the book and this paranormal series? Is there a place for a “newbie” to jump into the series? Shiloh: Actually, almost any of them…I try to write them to work on their own and Hunter’s Rise would work completely fine as a stand-alone.  The only ones that aren’t quite as easy to follow without some idea of what’s going on would be the ones involving the storyline about Nessa, a slightly crazy witch.  There are some older stories that I’m reissuing digitally if somebody wants to get in at the very beginning, although those stories...

Author Interview & Giveaway: TK Rayford

Author Interview & Giveaway: TK Rayford Today I have the honor of bringing to you author TK Rayford. TK is a self-published author of a young adult sci-fi series. TK was born in Chicago, IL with her four siblings. She later moved to Memphis, TN. She fell in love with writing in the second grade and has been writing ever since. Her teachers would always say that she would become a great writer, but she would insist that she would be a neurosurgeon. She proved herself wrong and her teachers right when she decided to pursue her passion, which has always been writing.  Please help me welcome TK toThat’s What I’m Talking About, and read on for a special GIVEAWAY…  Twimom: TK, welcome and thank you for stopping by. TK: Thanks so much for having me! I am super excited to be here. Twimom: Please tell my readers a little more about yourself… how did you get into writing? What are your inspirations?  TK: Well, I have been into books since my older sister started teaching me how to read when I little.  I was always content to sit on the porch with a good book while my siblings wreaked havoc in the neighborhood.  I can’t say that I was born with hundreds of people in my head because I don’t remember being born, but they have definitely been there for the majority of my life.  And when you’re as into reading as I was with the bonus of having people living in your head with stories to tell, the writing kind of comes naturally.  As far as inspiration goes, there aren’t many people that I’m not inspired by.  I’m as inspired by other writers, especially indies, who did everything in their power to get their names on the cover of a book as I am by regular, everday people who simply know the importance of hard work. Twimom: Abstrus is your debut title and the first in your Planet Abstrus series. Can you tell us more about the series? TK: Abstrus wasn’t really something I came up with on my own.  It kinda found me in the form of a dream, which is normal for me, and for the longest time it only lived as blue sharpie written on the back of a privacy release form that I had beside my bed.  It’s about Lexi, a 17 year old girl who finds out some strange truths about herself and her mother who has disappeared.  She’s thrown...

Author Interview & Giveaway – L.C. Dean

Author Interview & Giveaway – L.C. Dean Hello Readers! Today I bring to you erotica author L.C. Dean. L.C. has lived all over the United States from the glorious South to the freethinking West Coast, but returned home to the Midwest over a decade ago, and now resides in the beautiful state of Minnesota. L.C.’s main goal professionally is to push the boundaries her often puritanical upbringing created. Writing about love that does not need society to define it, has been a freeing experience for her and her characters, and she hopes that readers find a similar joy in the reading.   Originally, L.C. was going to come by to tell me a little bit about her new holiday-themed story, Ginger Snaps for Two. However, as you will read below… things didn’t end up that way! But even though L.C. didn’t make it to my office, she did send along some goodies, so stay tuned after the interview for details about a special GIVEAWAY that L.C. is sponsoring.  The day of the interview, I was expecting L.C. to come by, so I was a little thrown when three people walked through my door. Did L.C. bring some of her characters with her? I started to rise, gesturing for them to make themselves comfortable opposite my desk. “I’ll grab another seat.” The tall gorgeous man, with skin the color of polished black walnut, shook his head. “No need.” With barely an effort he slid the visitors’ chairs together and created a wide, raised spot with the broad arms. His simple white dress shirt followed his movements, and I contemplated hiring him to rearrange my entire house. Maybe he could get the other guy to come along and make it a perfect afternoon. I’m telling you, I could probably sell tickets. The gorgeous redheaded perched gracefully on the makeshift pedestal with Mr. Tall and Delicious to her left. The other man sank to his knee and slid her high heels from her feet so she could get comfortable without slashing my white leather chairs with her three-inch spikes. I love a practical man. A shiver shook the young woman as he ran his thumbs over her arches and then dropped into the empty seat with a chuckle. “Sorry, didn’t mean to tickle, sweets,” he whispered softly to her, but I caught it, and her “yeah right,” sounded a bit breathless. She shook her head but contentment softened her eyes as she tucked her bare feet beside his thigh....

Author Interview & Giveaway – Anita Clenney

Author Interview & Giveaway – Anita Clenney Today I have the honor of bringing to you USA Today and New York Times best selling author Anita Clenney. Anita writes Paranormal Romance and Romantic Suspense stories. She has worked in a pickle factory (picture Lucy and Ethel, hair nets and all–lasted half a day), a preschool, booked shows for Aztec Fire Dancers, been a Secretary, Executive Assistant, and a Realtor. When she found Mr. Right, the two multiplied into a family of four. She lives with her family in Virginia, not far from Washington, DC, where they are slaves to a white Boxer named Lily, who thinks the family lives and breathes to buy new stuff for her to chew up. Please help me welcome Anita toThat’s What I’m Talking About. And find out how you can win her latest release at the end of this interview. Twimom: Anita, welcome and thank you for stopping by. Anita: Thanks so much for having me here. I love connecting with readers about books. Twimom: Embrace the Highland Warrior is the second book in your Highland Warrior series. How much and what kind of research did you do for your books? Anita: The first book, Awaken the Highland Warrior, required the most research since it was the foundation for the series. I love Google and found most of what I needed there. The trouble is, I get distracted when I’m researching. I’ll find myself following links and forgetting why I was there in the first place.  Twimom: Your stories also bring in demons to the mix. What are your inspirations for the series? – other than men in kilts, which is a given! Anita: Ha, I’m trying to get my husband to wear a kilt. 🙂  I’ve always been intrigued by mysterious, unexplained things, and also by the magic of the male/female attraction. This series brings both elements together. Twimom: The third book in the series, Unleash the Highland Warrior, is due out next spring. Can you tell us a bit more about that story and the future of your series? Anita: Unleash will have an element of time travel, like Awaken did, and it will be a poignant, intense ride. Without giving too much away, something happens in book three that I’ve never written before. These highland warriors feel as if they’re part of my family. I would love to tell all their stories. Twimom: Do you have any other series and/or books in the works that you would like to...

Author Interview & Giveaway – Veronica Wolff

Author Interview & Giveaway – Veronica Wolff Today I have the honor of bringing to you author Veronica Wolff. Veronica is an award-winning, bestselling author with a soft spot for kilts, mountains, beaches, and vampires. Not necessarily at the same time. She has lived everywhere from Texas, to Hawaii, to India, before finally settling in Northern California, where she lives with her husband, two kids, one insane rescue dog, one angelic rescue dog, the gentlest cat ever, and a snake whose days are numbered. Please help me welcome Veronica toThat’s What I’m Talking About, and read further for a GIVEAWAY of Veronica’s new book! Twimom: Veronica, welcome and thank you for stopping by. Veronica: Hi, Twimom! From one Twilight-Mama to another, thanks so much for having me! Twimom: *high fives* Your new book, Isle of Night is a Young Adult “vampire” series, with a few twists on the standard mythology. Can you tell us more about the setting for the series? Will we learn more about the vampires as the series progresses? Veronica: Isle of Night is set on a bleak island in the middle of the North Sea that’s populated by a coven of ancient vampires. There, they recruit and train girls to become Watchers, an elite group acting as agents, emissaries, and sometimes assassins for the vampires. Training is intense, and failure means death. As the series progresses, you’ll learn more about the vampires, their motivation, and their world. Twimom: How many books do you foresee in this series?  Will they all be just about Drew or will they be told through other characters? Veronica: Honestly, I could see writing a dozen of these…I’m loving it so much! I don’t want to make any proclamations or promises, but for now I think they’ll all be in Drew’s point of view. Twimom: You also write a Highlander series (yummy!) Will you please share with us a little about that series? Veronica: Thanks! I do love me a man in a kilt. I have two Highlands series. The first is a time travel series where each heroine goes back in time and meets (and falls in love with!) a famous hero from Scottish history. My second series is purely historical—the Clan MacAlpin books are centered around a fictional family of orphans in seventeenth-century Scotland. Picture Party of Five in the Highlands. Twimom: *picturing Matthew Fox and Scott Wolf in kilts and smiling*  What are the challenges of writing a YA series versus a more traditional romance (adult)...

Author Interview & Giveaway – Stephanie Julian

Author Interview & Giveaway – Stephanie Julian Today I have the honor of bringing to you author Stephanie Julian.   Stephanie is author of a number of erotic/paranormal romance stories (several of which have been reviewed on That’s What I’m Talking About). A former reporter for a daily newspaper, Stephanie enjoys making up stories much more than writing about real life. She’s happily married to a Springsteen fanatic and is the mother of two sons, who love her even when they don’t have any clean clothes and dinner is a bowl of cereal. Please help me welcome Stephanie to That’s What I’m Talking About.  Twimom: Stephanie, welcome and thank you for stopping by. Stephanie: It’s wonderful to be here. Twimom: First off, congratulations on your newest release, What a Goddess Wants and kicking off your new “Forgotten Goddesses” series. (Readers, you can find my review HERE.)  What inspired you to discover and write about Etruscan culture and deities? Can you tell my readers a little more about the Etruscan civilization? (I had to google it!) Stephanie: Since my dad’s family is from Italy (my grandpop was from Sicily, my grandmom from Rome), I wanted to find a magical tradition that fit with my heritage. I didn’t want to do Wiccan, which is heavily based on Celtic traditions, because almost every magic book I’d read was based on this style. I knew a lot about the ancient Romans because I took four years of Latin in high school (I was pretty much a geek back then. Okay, I might still be a little bit of a geek.). But most people already have a preconceived notion about the Romans. I wanted a tradition I could play around with. And I found the Etruscans, from whom the Romans ripped off a lot of their ideas about government and religion. The Etruscans aren’t all that well known and there’s not so much information out there so I could make up stuff or mold the known details to my own purposes. Twimom: What are your plans for the future of this HOT series? Stephanie: There are another two books in the series contracted, How To Worship a Goddess and Goddess in the Middle. I love writing connected series and having favorite characters pop up through the stories. In How To Worship a Goddess, you’ll meet Lucy, Etruscan Goddess of the Moon, who falls hard for a hot, hunky hockey player named Brandon. Why hockey? Because I love it! In my home town,...

Author Interview – Kimberley Troutte

Author Interview – Kimberley Troutte Today I have the honor of bringing to you author Kimberley Troutte. Kimberley is a Southern California girl, born and raised. She lives with her husband, two sons, one old dog, four very large snakes, and various other creatures that the man/kids/dog inevitably drag in.  Kimberley is celebrating the one-year anniversary of the release of Catch Me in Castile, her second book with Samhain Publishing. Please help me welcome Kimberley toThat’s What I’m Talking About.  Twimom: Kimberley, welcome and thank you for stopping by. Kimberley: Thank you. I’m very excited to be here. Twimom: I read that you were writing for 20 years before you got “the call” from Samhain back in June 2008. What inspired you for all those years? What topics did you write about? Kimberley: That’s a very long time, isn’t it? During those twenty years I worked a day job, got married, had kids, you know the usual life stuff. I wrote my grandmother’s biography—a real eye-opener that remains locked safely away within the family. I also wrote poetry, newspaper articles, short stories and one nonfiction book called Kid’s Play: Early Development Activities to Prepare Your Child for Kindergarten.  Every now and then, I’d drag out this romance novel set in Spain and tinker with it. Finally, I got it right and Catch Me was born. Twimom: Wow! You are celebrating the one-year anniversary of the release of Catch Me in Castile, a book with a ghostly twist.  Can you tell my readers more about Santiago and Erin? Kimberley: Erin is a woman who is driven to succeed in spite of the anxiety disorder that threatens to paralyze her. When things don’t work out as well as she’d planned—actually her plans explode in her face—she travels to Spain for a little R&R and falls into the arms of a smokin’ hot doctor. He’s the perfect medicine.  Santiago is protecting his own family from a killer on the loose. He needs to keep Erin at arm’s length for her own safety. But there is something incredibly strong and brilliant about the American. Where does she find such strength in the face of her demons? He should push her away, but he can’t seem to let her go. Twimom: Oh, sounds intriguing! Catch Me is actually your second book with Samhain. The “hero” of your first book, Soul Stealer, is Death… is he really the sexiest bad boy there is? Can you tell us more about your story?...

Author Interview & Giveaway – Sidney Ayers

Author Interview & Giveaway – Sidney Ayers Today I have the honor of bringing to you author Sidney Ayers. Sidney loves infusing her stories with humor. She writes a plethora of genres, ranging from historical, to paranormal, to contemporary. A native of Michigan, Sidney still lives in the same town she grew up in. No matter how hard she tries, she just can’t seem to get away. Michigan is in her blood. Right now, Sidney is currently working on the 2nd book in the Demons Unleashed series of humorous paranormal romances. Please help me welcome Sidney toThat’s What I’m Talking About.  Twimom: Sidney, welcome and thank you for stopping by. Sidney: You’re welcome. And a Big thank you for inviting me. Twimom: First of all… Michigan?! I am also a native, although I haven’t lived there since 1994, I still travel back yearly.  I grew up *holds up hand and points to spot* here.  (For those non-natives, we Michiganders can show where we live by using our hand as a map.) I have to ask… Wolverine or Spartan? Sidney: Go GVSU Lakers! Sorry, I don’t want to offend anyone. Hee hee hee. Twimom: Well, as long as you didn’t say OSU, we are good! Okay, enough about Michigan… can you tell my readers how long you’ve been writing and what sparked your interest in the paranormal genre? Sidney: I love stories like Bram Stoker’s Dracula and love shows like Supernatural and other shows with a paranormal elements. I’ve  always enjoyed reading paranormal romances as well. However, I noticed a lot of books in the genre took a rather dark turn. I really discovered my penchant for humor when I entered a round robin story contest that Avon sponsored back in 2006. I wrote a couple of off-the-wall parodies that got rather good feedback.  Little did they know that their contest would unleash a monster. Twimom: Or rather a demon! (hehe) Demons Prefer Blondes is the first book in your new Demons Unleashed series. Can you tell us a little about this new world you’ve created and your plans for the series? Sidney: The series takes place in Connolly Park, a fictional suburb in a fictional metropolitan area in the southwestern part of Michigan. If you’re familiar with the area, you’ll be able to figure out what town it is loosely based on. As the series progresses, this town will become an even bigger hotbed of demonic activity. Twimom: I look forward to seeing where the series leads! I...

Author Interview & Giveaway – Olivia Cunning

Author Interview & Giveaway – Olivia Cunning Today I have the honor of bringing to you author Olivia Cunning. Combining her love for romantic fiction and rock ‘n roll, Olivia writes erotic romance centered around rock musicians. Raised on hard rock music from the cradle, she attended her first Styx concert at age six and fell instantly in love with live music. She’s been known to travel over a thousand miles just to see a favorite band in concert. As a teen, she discovered her second love, romantic fiction — first, voraciously reading steamy romance novels and then penning her own. Her first Sinners on Tour novel, Backstage Pass was named a Top Read of 2010 by Love Romance Passion, Alpha Reader, The Fiction Vixen, Loves Romance and Smexy Books. She currently lives in Nebraska, where she is working on her next book! Please help me welcome Olivia toThat’s What I’m Talking About.  Twimom: Olivia, welcome and thank you for stopping by. Olivia: Thanks for having me! Twimom: Rockers and romance… seems like women have been swooning over musicians since Elvis first appeared.  Can you tell my readers a little more about your inspirations and how you began writing? Olivia: I’ve been a music fan my entire life. I became obsessed with rock stars as a teen. My walls were literally covered with pictures I’d carefully clipped from every imaginable music magazine. I wanted to be a rock star when I grew up. I tried to teach myself to play the guitar, with little success. Music consumed the majority of my days. And then I had a kid, worked on my education and my obsession for music settled a bit. When the kid started to become obsessed with music about five years ago, we started going to tons of concerts and I remembered why I’d been obsessed as a teenager. There’s nothing I love more than music, except maybe writing. I started writing in high school, too. I had big dreams of becoming an author. When that didn’t pan-out immediately, I realized I had to pay the bills and pursued a “normal” job and gave up my aspiration to be a rock star/writer. I never stopped writing. I just continued working on it on the side. So my two greatest passions are rock music (and nummins musicians) and writing. It only took me sixteen years to combine the two. You’d think it would be a no brainer. Twimom: Do you have any rock star crushes or stories...
