#FitReaders Check-In: March 4, 2016 Welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group for another year! For the the first quarter of 2016 (January – March), Felicia will be hosting the official check-ins. This is my weekly check-in post where I share about my week, and I hope you share about yours as well. If you have a weekly check-in blog post or put your updates on any social media site, please leave a link to your check-in posts in the comment section, below. Important links: The March Virtual 5k and 10k Race Series + 1 mile Fun Run finish line (for after you complete the “race”) #FitReaders information page #FitReaders 101 My Week: I’ve been home one week and doing okay. I’ve managed to get in a walk in each day, and hit my step counts. But I skipped Body Flow this week (first time I’ve been able to go in a month), and I have been binge eating Girl Scout cookies. I am going to blame some of this on the upsetting news I received on Wednesday, but it’s also just an excuse. I am feeling emotionally and mentally run down, and it’s too easy to slip back into bad habits. I need to be better to myself and not open another box of Do-si-dos. I did get in three 5k walks this week, so that is a win. My Movement*: Friday: one walk totaling 39 minutes, 10,189 steps/day Saturday: one walk totaling 36 minutes, 10,826 steps/day Sunday: one walk totaling 52 minutes – first virtual 5k of the month, 10,972 steps/day Monday: one walk totaling 47 minutes, 11,771 steps/day Tuesday: one walk totaling 46 minutes, 10,532 steps/day Wednesday: one walk totaling 43 minutes, 12,220 steps/day Thursday: one walk totaling 37 minutes, 11,500+ steps/day * I track two different goals. The first goal is a timed duration of exercise – moving with the intent to raise my heart rate and get in some cardiovascular work. This is what I’m mean when I say “45 minutes walking.” The second goal is total daily steps. This is from my Fitbit, which measures all steps from 12:00AM – 11:59PM, exercise included. Myers airport, heading back to New England this evening. I had a wonderful family vacation; enjoying the sun and lots of fun with Mom, Dad, MIL, FIL, DH, and the kiddos. I’m also glad we still have a “long weekend” before Monday hits again. I was able to get in lots of steps while away. Mom and I even did the virtual 10k! WOOT!! My only downfall was a TON of really bad eating, drinking, and birthday celebrating. Adding to the weight I gained in Daytona, I’m up about 4+ pounds, which I’ll need to work on starting next week. My Movement*: Friday: one walk totaling 72 minutes, 14,242 steps/day Saturday: one walk totaling 38 minutes, 11,271 steps/day Sunday: one walk totaling 47 minutes, 12,188 steps/day Monday: one walk totaling 11 minutes, 7,424 steps/day Tuesday: one walk totaling 53 minutes, 11,479 steps/day Wednesday: one walk totaling 98 minutes – virtual 10k, 15,465 steps/day Thursday: one walk totaling 40 minutes, 11,000+ steps/day * I track two different goals. Myers, Florida. My family and I are visiting my parents. We just arrived on Thursday morning and spent the day at the pool, therefore not making my step or exercise goal. AND I’m eating lots. But it’s vacation. haha. My goal is to fit in a 10k while I’m here. I’ll report back next week. In general, this wasn’t a great week. I didn’t meet my step goal 3 days this week – I don’t know the last time that happened. Between the lack of movement and continued higher-calorie eating, I’ve not lost the extra weight I put on while in Daytona. My Movement*: Friday: no exercise, 8,127 steps/day Saturday: one walk totaling 33 minutes, 11,614 steps/day Sunday: one walk totaling 41 minutes, 10,621 steps/day Monday: two walks totaling 72 minutes, 16,093 steps/day Tuesday: shoveling for 22 minutes, 6,260 steps/day Wednesday: one walk totaling 45 minutes, 13,720 steps/day Thursday: no exercise, 5,800 steps/day * I track two different goals. Important links: The Virtual 5k and 10k Race Series + 1 mile Fun Run finish line (for after you complete the “race”) #FitReaders information page #FitReaders 101 My Week: I’ve had a crazy week. Last Thursday – Monday, I was in Daytona, FL for Coastal Magic Con (AMAZING!!) I had the chance to walk on the beach with fellow #FitReaders Liza and Jeffe. On Friday, there was a mixer with a DJ. I danced until after midnight and hit 20,000 steps! It’s only the second time I’ve achieved that level since I’ve been tracking steps. Lots of fun and lots of moving… but LOTS of eating and drinking! I gained 3 pounds on my mini-trip. After my return on Monday night, I haven’t been doing much better. I think I’m in vacation and birthday mode. I figure I can handle the few extra pounds, as long as I keep up my walking. I know I’ll lose the weigh next month after vacation and birthdays are over. My Movement*: Friday: one walk totaling 46 minutes + 2.5 hours dancing, 20,138 steps/day Saturday: one walk totaling 24 minutes, 11,407 steps/day Sunday: one walk totaling 35 minutes, 13,348 steps/day Monday: one walk totaling 12 minutes (running between airport gates!), 6,699 steps/day Tuesday: two walks totaling 45 minutes, 10,949 steps/day Wednesday: one walk totaling 39 minutes, 11,752 steps/day Thursday: one walk totaling 33 minutes, 11,200 steps/day * I track two different goals. I arrived Thursday afternoon to attend the Coastal Magic Convention. It’s my second year attending, and I love it! On my trip down, I walked for 30 minutes in the airport while waiting for my flight. And I’ll be getting up nice and early to walk with some of my fellow FitReaders! Of course, I’m eating and drinking WAY TOO MUCH! But it’s only a few days! Oh! and I walked over 3.1 miles on Monday, therefore earning my February 5k! Yea!! My Movement*: Friday: three hours downhill skiing, 10,032 steps/day Saturday: one walk totaling 51 minutes, 10,945 steps/day Sunday: one walk totaling 32 minutes, 10,037 steps/day Monday: one walk totaling 70 minutes, 14,563 steps/day Tuesday: two walks totaling 40 minutes, 10,967 steps/day Wednesday: one walk totaling 14 minutes, 10,712 steps/day Thursday: two walks totaling 42 minutes, 12,827 steps/day * I track two different goals. Important links: The Virtual 5k and 10k Race Series + 1 mile Fun Run finish line (for after you complete the “race”) #FitReaders information page #FitReaders 101 My Week: As another week flies by, I’m doing pretty good. The exciting news from this week… I COMPLETED A 10k (6.2 miles) on Monday!! I honestly never would have pushed myself if it weren’t for all of you awesome FitReaders. So THANK YOU!! But then my head cold really kicked my butt on Tuesday, and I went to bed early without getting in a longer walk. No worries! I had a good night’s sleep and was back on track Wednesday. Between the FitBit Challenges and my FitReader friends, I’ve managed to stay on track. My Movement*: Friday: two walks totaling 23 minutes + one hour downhill skiing, 11,915 steps/day Saturday: one walk totaling 59 minutes, 11,560 steps/day Sunday: one walk totaling 33 minutes, 10,470 steps/day Monday: one walk totaling 91 minutes (10k!!), 16,663 steps/day Tuesday: one walk totaling 17 minutes, 5,806 steps/day Wednesday: two walks totaling 57 minutes, 13,489 steps/day Thursday: 52 minutes Body Flow + one walk totaling 40 minutes, 12,800 steps/day * I track two different goals. Wrap up for January: I pretty much met my goals for the month. I tracked all of my food – every day – all month long! As of today, I “moved with purpose” 27 of 29 days… not everyday was 30 minutes, but I did get in some sort of movement. I missed reaching 10,000 steps on 5 different days, but my overall daily average for the month was over 10,000 steps/day. And the biggest accomplishment was finishing both the 5k and 10k Virtual Races. I call January a success!...

Important links: The Virtual 5k and 10k Race Series + 1 mile Fun Run finish line (for after you complete the “race”) #FitReaders information page #FitReaders 101 My Week: Well after I went on about what a good week I had last week, I went and had a not-as-good week. LOL I missed my goal step count on two days!! Oh well… I carried on and look, I even made up for it during the rest of the week. The wind, cold, and ice have slowed me down some, but I’m still getting time outside for the most. I did notice a problem with my FitBit on Tuesday. I thought it was weird that I hadn’t hit 10,000 steps by nighttime, and when I looked, it was at 9,996. I then continued around my house, doing chores, etc. But the counter wouldn’t move. It wasn’t until 5 minutes later, going down stairs, that it hit 10,000. Then it stayed there the rest of the night. Never moved. It also had me “sleeping” from 7:50AM to 11:50PM on Wednesday. What?! I mean, the sleep log showed that I was “restless” pretty much the entire day, but that clearly was a problem with the FitBit. I’ll keep an eye on things – may need to do something about it. My Movement*: Friday: one walk totaling 11 minutes, 9,019 steps/day Saturday: one walk totaling 40 minutes, 11,175 steps/day Sunday: no exercise, 6,264 steps/day Monday: one walk totaling 64 minutes, 14,126 steps/day Tuesday: one walk totaling 11 minutes + 40 minutes elliptical, 10,000 steps/day Wednesday: three walks totaling 56 minutes, 13,096 steps/day Thursday: 53 minutes Body Flow + one walk totaling 38 minutes, 10,000+ steps/day * I track two different goals. The first goal is a timed duration of exercise – moving with the intent to raise my heart rate and get in some cardiovascular work. #FitReaders Check-In: January 15, 2016 Welcome to #FitReaders!! NEW FOR 2016: For 2016, Felicia and I will continue to have weekly check-ins at both blogs on Fridays. For the first quarter (January – March), the “official” check-ins will be on Felicia’s blog, but you are welcome to leave messages at either/both blogs, Facebook, or Twitter. We will alternate every other quarter, just like in 2015. Additionally, we are adding a new component to #FitReaders during 2016… The Virtual 5k and 10k Race Series + 1 mile Fun Run!   For more information about this fun event, visit the FitReaders info page at Felicia’s blog, and to log in your January “races,” visit the January Virtual Finish Line and post your achievement to the Virtual Finish Line. Each month there will be a virtual ribbon for every finisher, which you can display proudly on your check-ins. If at the end of the year you have completed 10 of the 12 races, you will get an actual medal (see photo) or certificate (1 mile). You do NOT have to compete in the Virtual 5k and 10K Race Series to participate in #FitReaders. This is an optional component to the #FitReaders group. My Week: This was another good week, and I’ve been able to keep up my 10,000+ days. I had wanted to get in my 10k (6.2 miles) “race” this week, but after 5 miles on Monday, it was too cold and dark out to keep going. Maybe next week! I’ve also been doing a good job tracking, and other than a calorie-filled night out last Saturday, I’ve been doing pretty good. In fact, I’m back down to pre-holiday weight. How about you? Did you accomplish a 1 mile, 5k, or 10k race this week? My Movement*: Friday: two walks totaling 55 minutes, 11,832 steps/day Saturday: one walk totaling 60 minutes, 12,611 steps/day Sunday: no exercise, 4,276 steps/day Monday: one walk totaling 73 minutes (5.11 miles), 16,116 steps/day Tuesday: two walks totaling 49 minutes, 10,659 steps/day Wednesday: three walks totaling 48 minutes, 11,561 steps/day Thursday: 53 minutes Body Flow + one walk totaling 40 minutes, 13,000+...

You do NOT have to compete in the Virtual 5k and 10K Race Series to participate in #FitReaders. This is an optional component to the #FitReaders group. How to get started? I didn’t just decide to go out and walk a 5k one day. It took time and effort to get there. I realize that each of us is in our own place and we all have our own fitness journeys. Some of us have physical limitations that may hamper a 5k (3.1 miles). The purpose of #FitReaders is to support each and everyone of you on your own path. When I started two years ago, I wasn’t exercising at all. I decided to “move with purpose” for 10 minutes each day. That’s how I started, and it went up from there. If you aren’t moving at all right now, you need to start slowly and work your way into more. Find a goal that puts you just outside your comfort level, but is doable. Please note –...

#FitReaders Check-In: January 1, 2016 Welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group for another year! We will alternate every other quarter, just like in 2015. Additionally, we are adding a new component to #FitReaders during 2016… Virtual 5k and 10k Race Series The Virtual 5k and 10k Race Series is organized online, and FitReaders from all over the world can compete. Where it is different from a traditional race is that you are responsible for completing the walk/run at any place you desire, at any time during the race time frame, that works for you. Whether you choose to enter an actual sponsored race, or go out on your own path, you will qualify! This will be a monthly series, aka one race per month. Each “race” will need to be completed between the first and last day of the month. You will need to take a picture at the end of your “race” and post it either on FB, Twitter, your check-in, and/or blog. Examples of pictures are: a screen shot of your phone or gps that shows you “raced” either 5k or 10k, your playlist of songs for your journey, a map of your route, photos of scenery, etc. Basically something that indicates which race you completed (5k or 10k) and the time it took for you to finish. You do not have to post your face if you don’t want. Click the photo for more information! Once you have completed your January “race” (5k or 10k), you need to “cross the finish line” by posting your achievement to the Virtual Finish Line. Each month there will be a virtual ribbon for every finisher, which you can display proudly on your check-ins. If at the end of the year you have completed 10 of the 12...
