#FitReaders Check-In: May 27, 2016 Welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group for another year! I’m hosting check-ins from April through June 2016, and you’ll find the check-ins every Friday right here. I only use the linky for the monthly Commit to Exercise posts, so please use the comment section below for your check-in. You can leave a link to your own weekly check-in blog post or any social media site in the comment section. Or if you prefer, use the comment section as your own weekly check-in space. Also, if you have any questions about #FitReaders, you can leave them in the comment section or email me at twimom227(at)gmail(dot)com. Important links: The May Virtual 5k and 10k Race Series + 1 mile Fun Run finish line (for after you complete your own “race”) #FitReaders information page #FitReaders 101 Facebook Group My Week: My fight with the “red dot” continues this week, when I missed one hour by a couple measly steps at work on Tuesday. #grrr I swear #Fitbit is out to get me! I did make my “hourly activity goal” on 3 days this week! Speaking of #Fitbit, have you seen the new dashboard yet? It rolled out on my iPhone on Wednesday. I like it. The week was pretty good. I’m working hard to eat better, but indulging once and a while. We have our annual neighborhood Lobstah (that’s lobster for those non-New Englanders) Bake on Sunday. There will be lots of eating and drinking! Medically, the doctor changed my blood pressure meds this week, and I noticed on Thursday I was very winded and heart racing when going up and down the stairs. I’ll be monitoring that. I also have an appointment scheduled with a physical therapist for my calf/achilles issues. My doctor thinks it could be tendonitis. We’ll see next week. My Movement*: Friday: one walk totaling 27 minutes, 12,768 steps/day Saturday: one walk totaling 49 minutes, 12,369 steps/day Sunday: one walk totaling 33 minutes, 12,861 steps/day Monday: one walk totaling 70 minutes, 16,059 steps/day Tuesday: two walks totaling 59 minutes, 13,113 steps/day Wednesday: one walk totaling 45 minutes, 12,533 steps/day Thursday: one walk totaling 40 minutes, 12,000+ steps/day * I track two different goals. The first goal is a timed duration of exercise – moving with the intent to raise my heart rate and get in some cardiovascular work. This is what I’m mean when I say “45 minutes walking.” The second goal is total daily steps. This is from my Fitbit, which measures all steps from 12:00AM – 11:59PM, exercise...

Important links: The May Virtual 5k and 10k Race Series + 1 mile Fun Run finish line (for after you complete your own “race”) #FitReaders information page #FitReaders 101 Facebook Group My Week: That $@&%*! little red dot. The one that tells Fitbit users if they’ve walked 250 steps during the hour. Yes, that one. I’ve become obsessed with trying to get 12 red dots every day – from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Luckily my Alta will buzz me if I haven’t met that hour’s goal. Unfortunately, life isn’t always conducive to getting up and walking when that reminder buzzes. And if I miss ONE hour – ONE red dot – the whole day is blown for this goal. It’s so frustrating. And I’m too obsessed, so it really irritates me. I wish that Fitbit would change this goal (hourly activity) to make it that I have to get 250 steps in so many hours over the course of the day, rather than consecutive hours. That way if I’m stuck on a business call, commuting around town, in a meeting, etc., I won’t ruin that goal for the whole day. Ugh. That $@&%*! little red dot. Other than becoming obsessed with trivial fitness monitoring, the week was good. My step count was down a bit from last week, but still overall productive. My weight is back up (because of what I chose to eat), and for the first time since September 2014, I logged a weight above my goal weight. It was on Sunday, not my official weigh-in day (that is Monday), and my weight was down in time for weigh-in on Monday, but it did shock me a bit. With our big Memorial Day Weekend Lobster Bake coming next weekend, and summer festivities coming soon, I really need to crack down and shed a couple pounds. My...

I usually wait until the last week of the month, so I’m really happy. For the 10k, I walked and jogged, and ended up with pace under last month’s pace. I am thinking that I would like to jog/run a 10k race in the fall. Eating – same story as I’ve been telling the past two months. I’m back up 2 pounds this week. So far in May, I’ve been much better with my eating habits. Additionally, I’m working on getting more steps throughout the day, while still getting in a 2-4 mile walk. I love the little reminder that Alta gives, reminding me to get up and move. My goal for next week is to get in at least one 5k. I’m hosting check-ins from April through June 2016, and you’ll find the check-ins every Friday right here. Since this is not only the first of the month, but also a Friday, today’s post is also my weekly check-in post where I share about my week, and I hope you share about yours as well. It is time to Commit to Exercise for May 2016! Whether you are just joining us, need to get back on the wagon, or continuing your monthly progress, now is the time to stand up and say “I’m in! I’m committed to getting up and moving!” So are you ready to commit to being fit? Remember there will be weekly check-ins on Fridays, motivation on twitter (#FitReaders), and a support group over on Facebook. Let’s get this month started by adding your link down below. Add your name to the linky and leave a comment telling us what your goals are for May and how your week was in the comments. Note: you do not have to have a blog to participate. You can use any URL to sign up, including your Twitter, Facebook, Goodreads, or Booklikes site. Please let me know if you have any problems signing up. If you have a weekly check-in blog post or put your updates on any social media site, please leave a link to your check-in posts in the comment section, below. Important links: The May Virtual 5k and 10k Race Series + 1 mile Fun Run finish line (for after you complete the “race”) #FitReaders information page #FitReaders 101 Facebook Group Goals for May: My goals include attempting to keep better eating habits, keeping myself accountable by logging my caloric intake on LoseIt!. I want to exercise (move with purpose) for 30 minutes 6 out of 7 days in the week. I want to hit an average of 10,000 steps per day and take my BodyFlow class once per week. I’d like to walk/run a 10k during May. I want to maintain my goal weight, but I’d like to lose 1-2 of the pounds I gained earlier this year. Mostly, I want to have a healthy outlook and continue to support my fellow FitReaders. What are your goals for...

Important links: The April Virtual 5k and 10k Race Series + 1 mile Fun Run finish line (for after you complete the “race”) #FitReaders information page #FitReaders 101 Facebook Group My Week: First the good news… I got in my 10k on Monday, walking/running over 6.2 miles at a 12:30 pace! Woot! How about you? Did you get in a 1 mile, 5k, or 10k this month? Don’t forget to “cross the finish line” (click link) so your race is counting for your year’s total. In not so good news, I’m going to ignore the 3 pounds I’ve gained this week because we’ve been out to breakfast, lunch, and or dinner every day of vacation… My other good news, I have a new Fitbit. Here is my review. The Alta: I think you all know that I love using my Fitbit. My goto tracker for the past year has been my Charge HR. I love many things about the HR, but I am also excited about the brand new Alta, which has some great features. So I decided to purchase an Alta to give me choices. Here is my review. What I love… Better battery life. The Alta goes and goes! I used it over 6 days without a charge, whereas my HR needs charging every 3 days. Notifications. I love that the Alta integrates phone call alerts (which the HR does), but also text messages and calendar alerts. I like the texting feature because I can check real fast if it’s something I need to respond to or if I can hold off. Get up and move reminders. This is one of the primary reasons I purchased the Alta. While it’s far from perfect, I like the quick reminders letting me know that I haven’t moved much during the hour....

Up and down, up and down. Eating too much sugar and junk, but getting in steps. Weight fluctuating +/-2 pounds. I guess I’m okay with it since I’m not making any big changes. At least this coming weekend is going to be slower than the past several. And the kids are on school break next week, so I’m hoping for some mental downtime, as long as they don’t kill one another. I’m still hoping to get in a 10k this month. My Movement*: Friday: no exercise, 7,098 steps/day Saturday: one walk totaling 20 minutes, 12,177 steps/day Sunday: two walks totaling 44 minutes, 12,519 steps/day Monday: one walk totaling 60 minutes, 15,192 steps/day Tuesday: two walks totaling 62 minutes, 12,856 steps/day Wednesday: two walks totaling 39 minutes, 10,871 steps/day Thursday: 57 minutes Body Flow + one walk totaling 40 minutes, 10,000+ steps/day * I track two different goals. Important links: The April Virtual 5k and 10k Race Series + 1 mile Fun Run finish line (for after you complete the “race”) #FitReaders information page #FitReaders 101 Facebook Group My Week: Are you feeling as crazy as I am? I swear as the spring progresses, my schedule intensifies. I’m much busier at work (so not as many mini-walks during the day), the kids have more activities, my husband is gone more… it can feel like too much at times. I also hate that when our schedules get like this, I let good eating habits go away. I am NOT a cook by any means, and we do enjoy going out to dinner, but at this time of year, I am lucky to have 1 or 2 “real” family dinners during the week. I need to plan ahead and cook meals on the weekends, but I haven’t done it yet. Weight-wise, I still would like to lose 2-3 pounds, but I’m not stressing out about it. At least I’m still getting in my steps. One issue I am dealing with are painful calves and achilles (pain from tightness, not injury). I try to stretch every morning and after I walk, but they seem to only be getting tighter and tighter lately. I don’t know if I should find a massage therapist or ?? I just worry that I’ll end up with an injury if I don’t take care of it. Anyone have a suggestion? (I do yoga once per week, but that isn’t helping.) My Movement*: Friday: no exercise, 5,178 steps/day (my Baby Girl turned 10!!) Saturday: one walk totaling 45 minutes, 11,913 steps/day Sunday: two “exploring walks” with BG totaling 69 minutes, 11,530 steps/day Monday: one walk totaling 70 minutes, 15,639 steps/day Tuesday: two walks totaling 53 minutes, 10,928 steps/day Wednesday: two walks totaling 40 minutes, 11,531 steps/day Thursday: one walk totaling...
