#FitReaders Check-in: October 16, 2015

#FitReaders Check-in: October 16, 2015 Welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group during 2015. For the rest of 2015 (October – December), I will be hosting the official check-ins. This is my weekly check-in post where I share about my week, and I hope you share about yours as well. You can also catch Felicia’s weekly check-in HERE. If you have a weekly check-in blog post or put your updates on any social media site, please leave a link to your check-in posts in the comment section, below. Or, if you want to use this post as your weekly check-in, leave a comment telling us how your week went! (I only use the linky on the monthly commitment posts, for the weekly posts, I use the comments.) My Week: What a weekend! From Friday afternoon until Monday evening, I was go-go-go and having fun! We had about 50 family members in town for my brother-in-law’s wedding on Sunday – all those steps on Sunday were from dancing! I knew this weekend was going to be busy, so I made sure to get my walks in earlier during each day, so it wouldn’t get too late after all the fun activities. For example, on Friday (I took the day off for wedding stuff), I had to run errands at the mall. While I was there, I walked the entire mall for 30 minutes just to make sure I got in my exercise that day. It was well worth it. Sure, I ate A LOT of extra food this week, but I feel great about how much I accomplished. My Movement*: Friday: 35 minutes walking, 11,524 steps/day Saturday: 33 minutes walking, 12,788 steps/day Sunday: 35 minutes walking, 18,995 steps/day Monday: 46 minutes walking, 10,298 steps/day Tuesday: 32 minutes walking, 12,063 steps/day Wednesday: 40 minutes walking, 11,132 steps/day Thursday: 55 minutes Body Flow + 44 minutes walking, 12,051 steps/day * I track two different goals. The first goal is a timed duration of exercise – moving with the intent to raise my heart rate and get in some cardiovascular work. This is what I’m mean when I say “45 minutes walking.” The second goal is total daily steps. This is from my Fitbit, which measures all steps from 12:00AM – 11:59PM, exercise included. Sign up for October: Don’t forget to SIGN UP FOR OCTOBER! and commit to exercising for the month. Sign ups from October through December will be at That’s What I’m Talking About. Questions for YOU! How was your week? Did you hit any milestones? Try a new food...

#FitReaders Check-In: October 9, 2015

#FitReaders Check-In: October 9, 2015 Welcome to #FitReaders!! Or, if you want to use this post as your weekly check-in, leave a comment telling us how your week went! (I only use the linky on the monthly commitment posts, for the weekly posts, I use the comments.) My Week: Overall, I’m doing pretty good. I may not get out and exercise as often as I would like, but I am trying to work extra steps in here and there. For example, on Tuesday I had a rough day so I didn’t go for my usual walk that night. However, at work, I did two 8-minute mini walks around the office. I also helped coach soccer. This gives me “active minutes” (a Fitbit stat) even when I don’t “exercise.” Additionally, I did a good job with my caloric intake. So although I didn’t get my step count in or my daily exercise, I still had a good day. This weekend is going to be a challenge for me! First, my brother-in-law is getting married, and it’s turned into a huge family reunion weekend with dinners and parties from Friday evening to Monday afternoon. Second, it’s my son’s 12th birthday on Saturday – and we’ll celebrate amidst the wedding fun! My Movement*: Friday: no exercise (but 25 active minutes), 7,567 steps/day Saturday: 47 minutes walking, 10,707 steps/day Sunday: 30 minutes walking, 11,726 steps/day Monday: 68 minutes walking, 15,198 steps/day Tuesday: no exercise (but 22 active minutes), 8,774 steps/day Wednesday: 45 minutes walking, 10,168 steps/day Thursday: 55 minutes Body Flow + 75 minutes walking, 14,826 steps/day * I track two different goals. (I only use the linky on the monthly commitment posts, for the weekly posts, I use the comments.) My Week: After a great week last week, I totally vegged on Friday and Saturday (although I did get my step count in by going through a corn maze with the kiddos). I’m feeling good though because I’ve mostly been eating better. My Movement*: Friday: no exercise, 6,809 steps/day Saturday: walking through corn maze, 12,005 steps/day Sunday: 39 minutes walking, 10,805 steps/day Monday: 71 minutes walking, 14,136 steps/day Tuesday: 30 minutes walking, 13,906 steps/day Wednesday: 45 minutes walking, 10,127 steps/day Thursday: 55 minutes Body Flow + 45 minutes walking, 10,000+ steps/day * I track two different goals. #FitReaders Check-In: September 18, 2015

#FitReaders Check-In: September 18, 2015 Welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group during 2015. For the months of July – September 2015, Felicia will be hosting the official check-ins. This is my weekly check-in post where I share about my week, and I hope you share about yours as well. You can also catch Felicia’s weekly check-in HERE. Or, if you want to use this post as your weekly check-in, leave a comment telling us how your week went! I’m Too Tired to Exercise: When I asked you all what was an excuse you use that keeps you from exercise, I heard back from a few of you, “I’m too tired.” I agree whole-heartedly. We are all busy women – some of us have jobs or school that take up most of our day, some have families and homes to care for, some of us have pets and other responsibilities. Regardless of what you do during the daylight (and nighttime) hours, finding time to exercise can be difficult, and unfortunately, is typically the first thing we cut out of our lives. Why? Because we are too tired to make the effort to care for ourselves, when we could use the time to just rest for once. Being tired is an honest and real thing. We all overdo it trying to be superwomen, and sometimes our bodies do need rest. This is especially important when recovering from illness or an injury. The key is to determine if we are truly tired and in need of a day off, or if we are just being “lazy.” Here are some of the ways I deal with “being too tired.” First, I give myself permission to do less if needed. I try to get in a walk at least 6 days during the week. If I’m feeling really tired, I will take that day off; however, first I try to tell myself “just go for 20 minutes.” Usually, if I start a walk, I’ll end up doing more than 20 minutes, but knowing that I have given myself permission to stop after 20 minutes makes a difference mentally. Second, I look at my step count. If I am feeling tired and don’t want to exercise, I look to see how much I’ve moved during the day....

#FitReaders Check-In: September 11, 2015 Welcome to #FitReaders!! My Week: So it’s still crazy here. After a WONDERFUL long (holiday) weekend, I started back to work (I have July and August off). I am sad that summer is “over,” and I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed. Although I am doing a decent job of making time to get in a walk, I’m not really pushing myself. And I’ve noticed that although I’ve not gained any weight, my clothes are getting a little snug in the waist. I am giving myself until the end of September to work out the “getting back to school/work” issues in my schedule. Once October hits, I need to seriously check in and get moving and eating better. I also feel like our group on a whole has been very busy and less cohesive. What can we do to get on track as a group?? My Movement*: Friday: no exercise, 5,494 steps/day Saturday: 40 minutes walking, 10,991 steps/day Sunday: no exercise, 5,616 steps/day Monday: 36 minutes walking, 12,123 steps/day Tuesday: 40 minutes walking, 10,197 steps/day Wednesday: 43 minutes walking, 10,148 steps/day Thursday: 55 minutes Body Flow + 37 minutes walking, 11,142 steps/day * I track two different goals. Questions for YOU! I promise that I’m going to get to a post on “excuses,” but honestly… I haven’t had time. Is giving an excuse of being “too busy” to write my post about making excuses to exercise even allowed?! How was your week? Did you hit any milestones? Try a new food or workout? Celebrate your week with...

Or, if you want to use this post as your weekly check-in, leave a comment telling us how your week went! My Week: AHHH! What a crazy week. Seriously… chicken-with-head-cut-off type of week and today (Friday) is no exception. Kids are back in school and I’m trying to keep up with everything that’s going on. I did get out and get my steps in, and my food intake was much more inline with where it should be (although I’ve got a girls-night-out tonight!) My Movement*: Friday: 62 minutes walking, 11,013 steps/day Saturday: 40 minutes walking, 15,661 steps/day Sunday: 21 minutes walking, 11,516 steps/day Monday: 33 minutes walking, 10,093 steps/day Tuesday: 45 minutes walking, 10,068 steps/day Wednesday: 61 minutes walking, 11,890 steps/day Thursday: 55 minutes Body Flow + 51 minutes walking, 12,133 steps/day * I track two different goals. Questions for YOU! I’m still collecting EXCUSES for not exercising: Excuses… we all make them. What are the ones you use most often? I thought maybe I’d try and address some of the more common “reasons why I don’t exercise” over the next month, but I need your help… tell me what your excuses are in the comments. How was your week? Did you hit any milestones? Try a new food or workout? Celebrate your week with...

A week ago, I only had 4,088 steps all day – my lowest since I’ve been tracking, but the rest of the week was pretty good. And while I ate a lot over the weekend (anniversary dinner out and a many-hours, catered baby shower), I did a pretty good job Monday-Wednesday, but too much again on Thursday. We’ll see how things go once the kids go back to school (next week) and I go back to work (after Labor Day). Excuses… we all make them. What are the ones you use most often? I thought maybe I’d try and address some of the more common “reasons why I don’t exercise” over the next month, but I need your help… tell me what your excuses are in the comments. My Week: While we are still on summer vacation here, I can tell school and work are getting close. We spent the week at various doctors’ appointments, school shopping, etc. I spent a lot of time in the car, and I feel like I didn’t get anything done, but I did get some walking in. I started listening to the first Dresden Files book by Jim Butcher, narrated by James Marsters, which was so engrossing that I probably walked a few extra steps each day just so I could keep listening. My Movement*: Friday: no exercise, 6,979 steps/day Saturday: 47 minutes walking, 11,174 steps/day Sunday: 61 minutes walking, 12,505 steps/day Monday: 38 minutes walking, 10,013 steps/day Tuesday: 50 minutes walking, 10,207 steps/day Wednesday: 30 minutes walking, 12,688 steps/day Thursday: 53 minutes Body Flow + 56 minutes walking, 11,725 steps/day * I track two different goals.
