#FitReaders Check-In: May 8, 2015 Welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group during 2015. For the months of April – June 2015, I will be hosting the official check-ins. To learn more about #FitReaders, or to sign up for May, click the image above. This is my weekly check-in post where I share about my week, and I hope you share about yours as well. You can also catch Felicia’s weekly check-in HERE. If you have a weekly check-in blog post or put your updates on any social media site, please leave a link to your check-in posts in the comment section, below. Or, if you want to use this post as your weekly check-in, leave a comment telling us how your week went! My Week: SUMMER HAS ARRIVED! Seriously…. It went from highs in the mid-40s to 70s and even 80 on Thursday! This week has been absolutely beautiful and so I’ve been outside a lot. The weather makes walking so much more enjoyable. I even got away from my usual route now that the sidewalks are clear of snow! I live on the coast, so there are a lot of wetlands and marshes. Here is a photo of a small wooded wetland near me. As I mentioned last week – I am now a member of Fitbit and I’m really enjoying it! I set my step goal at 10,000 per day – this is in addition to exercising 30 minutes/day. It’s definitely making a difference in my day-to-day activities. I’ll march in place, walk the long way to get something at work, do jumping jacks while watching TV! The weekly challenges are fun too! You can friend me via twimom227 (at) gmail (dot) com. My Movement: Friday: 35 minutes walking + 20 minutes on trampoline, 12,669 steps Saturday: 43 minutes walking, 10,139 steps Sunday: 47 minutes walking, 10,357 steps Monday: 46 minutes walking, 10,333 steps Tuesday: 71 minutes walking, 12,938 steps Wednesday: 66 minutes walking, 12,878 steps Thursday:  55 minutes BodyFlow + 60 minutes walking, 12,300 steps Questions for YOU! How was your week? Did you hit any milestones? Try a new food or workout? Celebrate your week with...

#FitReaders Commit to Exercise for May 2015 + Check-In: May 1, 2015 Welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group for 2015. During the months of April – June, 2015, I am hosting the official check-ins and quarterly giveaway. It is time to Commit to Exercise for May 2015! Whether you are just joining us, need to get back on the wagon, or continuing your monthly progress, now is the time to stand up and say “I’m in! I’m committed to getting up and getting moving!” So are you ready to commit to fit? Remember there will be weekly check-ins on Fridays both here and at Felicia’s blog, motivation on twitter (#FitReaders), and a group over on Facebook (let me know if you want to be added). Let’s get this month started by adding your link down below. Everyone who commits to exercise using the linky during April, May, and June will be entered to win some sort of FABULOUS PRIZE. Right now it looks like the prize will be some sort of gift card and possibly a fitness kit including a headband and water bottle, but it’s not set, so if you have any suggestions, please let me know! Add your name and leave a comment telling us what your goals for May are. Note: you do not have to have a blog to participate. You can use any URL to sign up, including your Twitter, FaceBook, GoodReads, or Booklikes site. Please let me know if you have any problems signing up. My Goals: My overall goals for 2015 are to keep up my current level of exercise, maintain my goal weight, and log my food intake every day for the year. I also want to add some races in once the weather warms up. As for May 2015, my primary goal is to make sure I continue get out and move. I plan to move with purpose for 30 minutes each day, taking off no more than one day per week. I also want to take one BodyFlow (yoga) Class per week. In addition, I will log my food/caloric intake each day using the LostIt! app. Finally, I recently joined the Fitbit crew and will be tracking my steps. In addition to “exercising” I want to take 10,000 steps and move for 4 miles each day (with no more than one day off per week). Are you on Fitbit? Send me a friend request at twimom227 (at) gmail (dot) com! Weekly Check-in: If you have a weekly check-in blog post...

#FitReaders Check-In: April 24, 2015 Welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group during 2015. For the months of April – June 2015, I will be hosting the official check-ins. To learn more about #FitReaders, or to sign up for April, click the image above. Or, if you want to use this post as your weekly check-in, leave a comment telling us how your week went!  My Week: Overall, I had a very active week and I ate much better – making conscious choices NOT to eat as much. When I weighed in on Monday, I was down a little bit, and hope to be down even more next Monday. As predicted, I did a lot of yard work on Sunday. And I’ve found a new walking route… My daughter has lacrosse practice Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the elementary school, which as a 1/2 mile loop. This week, I walked 4 miles both nights while she was practicing. My Movement: Friday: 26 minutes walking Saturday: none Sunday: 3.5 hours yard work + 32 minutes walking Monday: 47 minutes walking Tuesday: 63 minutes walking Wednesday: 45 minutes walking Thursday:  50 minutes BodyFlow + 60 minutes walking Questions for YOU! Thanks to all those who left comments last week about the quarterly prize. For those who didn’t, it’s not too late! As you all know, I’m hosting the second quarter #FitReaders and am responsible for the prizes awarded at the end of June. I’m wondering what to offer up as a prize and want input for you folks! I need something that can be sent anywhere – we have international participants. It can’t be too heavy or expensive, but fun, enjoyable, etc. Of course, one option is a gift card – it could be to Amazon or Barnes & Noble, or someplace else. I could do water bottles, t-shirts, headbands, etc. What do you think? Leave me some suggestions, please. I’ll look into it and then come back later with my follow up. How was your week? Did you hit any milestones? Try a new food or workout? Celebrate your week with...

Or, if you want to use this post as your weekly check-in, leave a comment telling us how your week went!  My Week: I am happy to report that all the snow in my yard has melted!! While there are still piles in shady places around town, there is none in my yard. The crocuses are finally blooming, and I am seeing some green. Of course, with all of the snow gone, I am left with a very messy yard. I think some intensive yard work is in my workout schedule this weekend! As for my health and well-being, it’s a mixed bag. I gained weight for the third week in a row (but still below my goal weight), even though I was able to get outside and move. I’ve noticed that my walks, while longer, are also slower, so that means fewer calories burned sometimes. And it really goes back to the junk food and snacking that I talked about last week. So I’m making a conscious effort to cut back on the extras. So far, it seems to be helping. My Movement: Friday: none Saturday: 33 minutes walking Sunday: 30 minutes walking Monday: 45 minutes walking Tuesday: 86 minutes walking Wednesday: 62 minutes walking Thursday:  45 minutes BodyFlow + 30 minutes walking Questions for YOU! As you all know, I’m hosting the second quarter #FitReaders and am responsible for the prizes awarded at the end of June. I‘m wondering what to offer up as a prize and want input for you folks! I need something that can be sent anywhere – we have international participants. Or, if you want to use this post as your weekly check-in, leave a comment telling us how your week went!  My Week: Can I scream?! It actually snowed on Wednesday and Thursday!!! I still managed to get outside and walk most days this week. I skipped out on Wednesday – it was BG’s 9th birthday and we had a busy schedule. One issue I’m struggling with is that I’ve been eating a lot of junk food – not sure why, but I can’t seem to stop, even when it makes me feel yucky. I have noticed a couple extra pounds on the scale, but I’m still below my goal weight. I’m hoping that once the weather gets better, I’ll shake off this craving for junk. My Movement: Friday: 33 minutes walking Saturday: 46 minutes walking Sunday: 35 minutes walking Monday: 46 minutes walking Tuesday: 90 minutes walking Wednesday: none Thursday:  50 minutes BodyFlow + 28 minutes walking How was your week? I was outside a lot, even when we got some surprise SNOW on Saturday! Luckily today it was sunny and 55, and I was able to walk without a full winter coat! The sunshine really lifted my spirits. I’m back to thinking about getting a FitBit, but honestly, I don’t know that it would help me do more than what I do now. It may  be fun to check my daily steps, but I my goals revolve around moving and walking for a specific amount of time, so I don’t need to know my step count. Thoughts? About Me: I used to be someone that was driven to work out. I never had a big weight problem for most of my life. However, during the early 2010’s, a number of things added up, and I found myself not exercising, eating a lot (struggling with emotional eating), and in a big funk. Thanks to Felicia and #BookBlogWalkers, I started my journey back to a healthier lifestyle on January 6, 2014. Please feel free to check-in with a comment here as well! My Week: Well, this week was a rough one for me. I’ve been letting work, kids, life… get me down. In addition, the weather has been a monsoon around here, making it tough to walk. But the bottom line is: I’m not taking care of myself. For the first time in over 14 months, I missed three days of exercise in one week. I was ready to skip out on Thursday as well, but then I “forced” myself to go to BodyFlow – something I’ve been wanting to do for a couple months now. I am SOOOOO glad I did. Not only was it a great yoga/Pilates class, but it centered me. Now I’m ready to tackle another week! My Movement: Friday: 30 minutes walking Saturday: none Sunday: none Monday: 32 minutes walking Tuesday: none Wednesday: 33 minutes walking Thursday:  55 minutes BodyFlow How was your week? #FitReaders Check-In: March 13, 2015 Welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group for the upcoming year. During the months of January – March 2015, Felicia will host the official check-ins. You can sign up by clicking the image above. You can also catch Felicia’s check in HERE. Please feel free to check-in with a comment here as well! My Week: Are you feeling like me… just barely make it? Getting through the day and feeling like nothing got done? Wondering where all the time went? Lately I’m feeling very overwhelmed. In the past when this would happen, I’d bury myself in comfort food and hide myself away indoors focusing on everything that’s “wrong.” While I have been overeating those Girl Scout cookies, raw cookie dough, popcorn, and other junk, I have made a big effort to continue to get outside and walk. The sunshine (WOO HOO!) makes the days seem better, and listening to my audiobook while walking and getting away from everything for 30-40 minutes has made a big difference in my ability to deal with “life.” Taking charge of one thing I can control – my body – helps center me a little bit each day. I hope that you too can find some peace of mind and heart! My Movement: Friday: 30 minutes downhill skiing (chaperone for ski club) Saturday: 38 minutes walking Sunday: 35 minutes walking Monday: 40 minutes walking Tuesday: 32 minutes walking Wednesday: 45 minutes walking w/my son Thursday:  41 minutes walking Notice… no shoveling this week!!
