#FitReaders Commit to Exercise: May 2016 Welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group for another year! I’m hosting check-ins from April through June 2016, and you’ll find the check-ins every Friday right here. Since this is not only the first of the month, but also a Friday, today’s post is also my weekly check-in post where I share about my week, and I hope you share about yours as well. It is time to Commit to Exercise for May 2016! Whether you are just joining us, need to get back on the wagon, or continuing your monthly progress, now is the time to stand up and say “I’m in! I’m committed to getting up and moving!” So are you ready to commit to being fit? Remember there will be weekly check-ins on Fridays, motivation on twitter (#FitReaders), and a support group over on Facebook. Let’s get this month started by adding your link down below. Add your name to the linky and leave a comment telling us what your goals are for May and how your week was in the comments. Note: you do not have to have a blog to participate. You can use any URL to sign up, including your Twitter, Facebook, Goodreads, or Booklikes site. Please let me know if you have any problems signing up. If you have a weekly check-in blog post or put your updates on any social media site, please leave a link to your check-in posts in the comment section, below. Important links: The May Virtual 5k and 10k Race Series + 1 mile Fun Run finish line (for after you complete the “race”) #FitReaders information page #FitReaders 101 Facebook Group Goals for May: My goals include attempting to keep better eating habits, keeping myself accountable by logging my caloric intake on LoseIt!. I want to exercise (move with purpose) for 30 minutes 6 out of 7 days in the week. I want to hit an average of 10,000 steps per day and take my BodyFlow class once per week. I’d like to walk/run a 10k during May. I want to maintain my goal weight, but I’d like to lose 1-2 of the pounds I gained earlier this year. Mostly, I want to have a healthy outlook and continue to support my fellow FitReaders. What are your goals for...

#FitReaders Check-In: April 29, 2016

#FitReaders Check-In: April 29, 2016 Welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group for another year! I’m hosting check-ins from April through June 2016, and you’ll find the check-ins every Friday right here. I only use the linky for the monthly Commit to Exercise posts, so please use the comment section below for your check-in. You can leave a link to your own weekly check-in blog post or any social media site in the comment section. Or if you prefer, use the comment section as your own weekly check-in space. Also, if you have any questions about #FitReaders, you can leave them in the comment section or email me at twimom227(at)gmail(dot)com. Important links: The April Virtual 5k and 10k Race Series + 1 mile Fun Run finish line (for after you complete the “race”) #FitReaders information page #FitReaders 101 Facebook Group My Week: First the good news… I got in my 10k on Monday, walking/running over 6.2 miles at a 12:30 pace! Woot! How about you? Did you get in a 1 mile, 5k, or 10k this month? Don’t forget to “cross the finish line” (click link) so your race is counting for your year’s total. In not so good news, I’m going to ignore the 3 pounds I’ve gained this week because we’ve been out to breakfast, lunch, and or dinner every day of vacation… My other good news, I have a new Fitbit. Here is my review. The Alta: I think you all know that I love using my Fitbit. My goto tracker for the past year has been my Charge HR. I love many things about the HR, but I am also excited about the brand new Alta, which has some great features. So I decided to purchase an Alta to give me choices. Here is my review. What I love… Better battery life. The Alta goes and goes! I used it over 6 days without a charge, whereas my HR needs charging every 3 days. Notifications. I love that the Alta integrates phone call alerts (which the HR does), but also text messages and calendar alerts. I like the texting feature because I can check real fast if it’s something I need to respond to or if I can hold off. Get up and move reminders. This is one of the primary reasons I purchased the Alta. While it’s far from perfect, I like the quick reminders letting me know that I haven’t moved much during the hour....

Up and down, up and down. Eating too much sugar and junk, but getting in steps. Weight fluctuating +/-2 pounds. I guess I’m okay with it since I’m not making any big changes. At least this coming weekend is going to be slower than the past several. And the kids are on school break next week, so I’m hoping for some mental downtime, as long as they don’t kill one another. I’m still hoping to get in a 10k this month. My Movement*: Friday: no exercise, 7,098 steps/day Saturday: one walk totaling 20 minutes, 12,177 steps/day Sunday: two walks totaling 44 minutes, 12,519 steps/day Monday: one walk totaling 60 minutes, 15,192 steps/day Tuesday: two walks totaling 62 minutes, 12,856 steps/day Wednesday: two walks totaling 39 minutes, 10,871 steps/day Thursday: 57 minutes Body Flow + one walk totaling 40 minutes, 10,000+ steps/day * I track two different goals. The first goal is a timed duration of exercise – moving with the intent to raise my heart rate and get in some cardiovascular work. This is what I’m mean when I say “45 minutes walking.” The second goal is total daily steps. This is from my Fitbit, which measures all steps from 12:00AM – 11:59PM, exercise included. #FitReaders Check-In: April 15, 2016 Welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group for another year! Important links: The April Virtual 5k and 10k Race Series + 1 mile Fun Run finish line (for after you complete the “race”) #FitReaders information page #FitReaders 101 Facebook Group My Week: Are you feeling as crazy as I am? I swear as the spring progresses, my schedule intensifies. I’m much busier at work (so not as many mini-walks during the day), the kids have more activities, my husband is gone more… it can feel like too much at times. I also hate that when our schedules get like this, I let good eating habits go away. I am NOT a cook by any means, and we do enjoy going out to dinner, but at this time of year, I am lucky to have 1 or 2 “real” family dinners during the week. I need to plan ahead and cook meals on the weekends, but I haven’t done it yet. Weight-wise, I still would like to lose 2-3 pounds, but I’m not stressing out about it. At least I’m still getting in my steps. One issue I am dealing with are painful calves and achilles (pain from tightness, not injury). I try to stretch every morning and after I walk, but they seem to only be getting tighter and tighter lately. I don’t know if I should find a massage therapist or ?? I just worry that I’ll end up with an injury if I don’t take care of it. Anyone have a suggestion? (I do yoga once per week, but that isn’t helping.) My Movement*: Friday: no exercise, 5,178 steps/day (my Baby Girl turned 10!!) Saturday: one walk totaling 45 minutes, 11,913 steps/day Sunday: two “exploring walks” with BG totaling 69 minutes, 11,530 steps/day Monday: one walk totaling 70 minutes, 15,639 steps/day Tuesday: two walks totaling 53 minutes, 10,928 steps/day Wednesday: two walks totaling 40 minutes, 11,531 steps/day Thursday: one walk totaling...

I’ve finally lost a couple of those pounds I put on pack in February, and I’m feeling better physically and emotionally. #FitReaders Check-In: March 25, 2016 Welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group for another year! For the the first quarter of 2016 (January – March), Felicia will be hosting the official check-ins. Starting next week, I will be hosting the weekly check-ins for the second quarter of 2016 (April – June). If you have a weekly check-in blog post or put your updates on any social media site, please leave a link to your check-in posts in the comment section, below. Important links: The March Virtual 5k and 10k Race Series + 1 mile Fun Run finish line (for after you complete the “race”) #FitReaders information page #FitReaders 101 My Week: This has been a real up and down week for me. Last weekend, I really over consumed – meals, snacks, sweets, and alcohol. It was the culmination of the slide I’d been on since late-January. I binged and felt the effects. It wasn’t pretty. At all. But it woke me up that I needed to get back on track and eat healthier. I don’t need to go without, but small portions and in moderation. Monday – Thursday have been MUCH better, and I FEEL so much better. Why do so many of us always need to “hit bottom” to remind us of that?? Anyhow, I hope to continue with a better, stronger mind-set and attitude going into April. As for movement – I’m doing pretty good during the weekdays, not as well on the weekends. I don’t know that I’ll get my 10k in this month, but I have completed a number of 5ks. We’ll see what next week brings. Remember that next week is the end of the first quarter, and the official check-ins will be here! Hope you have a great week. My Movement*: Friday: two walks totaling 32 minutes, 10,835 steps/day Saturday: no exercise, 5,966 steps/day Sunday: no exercise, 3,935 steps/day Monday: snow shovel for 57 minutes + one walk totaling 45 minutes, 14,722 steps/day Tuesday: two walks totaling 46 minutes, 10,803 steps/day Wednesday: one walk totaling 53 minutes, 13,496 steps/day Thursday: 55 minutes Body Flow + two walks totaling 63 minutes, 13,500+ steps/day * I track two different goals. Nothing much to report, other than it’s been more of the same. I’m doing my best to get out and walk – that part is going pretty good; usually meeting my step count 5-6 days of the week. But the eating isn’t better. I know when I put the food in my mouth it’s not helping, but I haven’t found motivation to stop myself. Until then, I’ll keep checking in and staying honest about the food. My Movement*: Friday: no exercise, 5,041 steps/day Saturday: one walk totaling 30 minutes, 11,553 steps/day Sunday: one walk totaling 31 minutes, 11,091 steps/day Monday: one walk totaling 55 minutes, 12,504 steps/day Tuesday: two walks totaling 24 minutes + 32 minutes elliptical, 10,390 steps/day Wednesday: two walks totaling 58 minutes, 12,826 steps/day Thursday: 52 minutes Body Flow + one walk totaling 34 minutes, 12,000+ steps/day * I track two different goals. I’ve managed to get in a walk in each day, and hit my step counts. But I skipped Body Flow this week (first time I’ve been able to go in a month), and I have been binge eating Girl Scout cookies. I am going to blame some of this on the upsetting news I received on Wednesday, but it’s also just an excuse. I am feeling emotionally and mentally run down, and it’s too easy to slip back into bad habits. I need to be better to myself and not open another box of Do-si-dos. I did get in three 5k walks this week, so that is a win. My Movement*: Friday: one walk totaling 39 minutes, 10,189 steps/day Saturday: one walk totaling 36 minutes, 10,826 steps/day Sunday: one walk totaling 52 minutes – first virtual 5k of the month, 10,972 steps/day Monday: one walk totaling 47 minutes, 11,771 steps/day Tuesday: one walk totaling 46 minutes, 10,532 steps/day Wednesday: one walk totaling 43 minutes, 12,220 steps/day Thursday: one walk totaling 37 minutes, 11,500+ steps/day * I track two different goals. Myers airport, heading back to New England this evening. I had a wonderful family vacation; enjoying the sun and lots of fun with Mom, Dad, MIL, FIL, DH, and the kiddos. I’m also glad we still have a “long weekend” before Monday hits again. I was able to get in lots of steps while away. Mom and I even did the virtual 10k! WOOT!! My only downfall was a TON of really bad eating, drinking, and birthday celebrating. Adding to the weight I gained in Daytona, I’m up about 4+ pounds, which I’ll need to work on starting next week. My Movement*: Friday: one walk totaling 72 minutes, 14,242 steps/day Saturday: one walk totaling 38 minutes, 11,271 steps/day Sunday: one walk totaling 47 minutes, 12,188 steps/day Monday: one walk totaling 11 minutes, 7,424 steps/day Tuesday: one walk totaling 53 minutes, 11,479 steps/day Wednesday: one walk totaling 98 minutes – virtual 10k, 15,465 steps/day Thursday: one walk totaling 40 minutes, 11,000+ steps/day * I track two different goals.
