#FitReaders Check-In: September 18, 2015

#FitReaders Check-In: September 18, 2015 Welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group during 2015. For the months of July – September 2015, Felicia will be hosting the official check-ins. This is my weekly check-in post where I share about my week, and I hope you share about yours as well. You can also catch Felicia’s weekly check-in HERE. If you have a weekly check-in blog post or put your updates on any social media site, please leave a link to your check-in posts in the comment section, below. Or, if you want to use this post as your weekly check-in, leave a comment telling us how your week went! I’m Too Tired to Exercise: When I asked you all what was an excuse you use that keeps you from exercise, I heard back from a few of you, “I’m too tired.” I agree whole-heartedly. We are all busy women – some of us have jobs or school that take up most of our day, some have families and homes to care for, some of us have pets and other responsibilities. Regardless of what you do during the daylight (and nighttime) hours, finding time to exercise can be difficult, and unfortunately, is typically the first thing we cut out of our lives. Why? Because we are too tired to make the effort to care for ourselves, when we could use the time to just rest for once. Being tired is an honest and real thing. We all overdo it trying to be superwomen, and sometimes our bodies do need rest. This is especially important when recovering from illness or an injury. The key is to determine if we are truly tired and in need of a day off, or if we are just being “lazy.” Here are some of the ways I deal with “being too tired.” First, I give myself permission to do less if needed. I try to get in a walk at least 6 days during the week. If I’m feeling really tired, I will take that day off; however, first I try to tell myself “just go for 20 minutes.” Usually, if I start a walk, I’ll end up doing more than 20 minutes, but knowing that I have given myself permission to stop after 20 minutes makes a difference mentally. Second, I look at my step count. If I am feeling tired and don’t want to exercise, I look to see how much I’ve moved during the day....

#FitReaders Check-In: September 11, 2015 Welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group during 2015. After a WONDERFUL long (holiday) weekend, I started back to work (I have July and August off). I am sad that summer is “over,” and I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed. Although I am doing a decent job of making time to get in a walk, I’m not really pushing myself. And I’ve noticed that although I’ve not gained any weight, my clothes are getting a little snug in the waist. I am giving myself until the end of September to work out the “getting back to school/work” issues in my schedule. Once October hits, I need to seriously check in and get moving and eating better. I also feel like our group on a whole has been very busy and less cohesive. What can we do to get on track as a group?? My Movement*: Friday: no exercise, 5,494 steps/day Saturday: 40 minutes walking, 10,991 steps/day Sunday: no exercise, 5,616 steps/day Monday: 36 minutes walking, 12,123 steps/day Tuesday: 40 minutes walking, 10,197 steps/day Wednesday: 43 minutes walking, 10,148 steps/day Thursday: 55 minutes Body Flow + 37 minutes walking, 11,142 steps/day * I track two different goals. The first goal is a timed duration of exercise – moving with the intent to raise my heart rate and get in some cardiovascular work. This is what I’m mean when I say “45 minutes walking.” The second goal is total daily steps. This is from my Fitbit, which measures all steps from 12:00AM – 11:59PM, exercise included. Questions for YOU! I promise that I’m going to get to a post on “excuses,” but honestly… I haven’t had time. Is giving an excuse of being “too busy” to write my post about making excuses to exercise even allowed?! How was your week? Did you hit any milestones? Try a new food or workout? Celebrate your week with...

Or, if you want to use this post as your weekly check-in, leave a comment telling us how your week went! My Week: AHHH! What a crazy week. Seriously… chicken-with-head-cut-off type of week and today (Friday) is no exception. Kids are back in school and I’m trying to keep up with everything that’s going on. I did get out and get my steps in, and my food intake was much more inline with where it should be (although I’ve got a girls-night-out tonight!) My Movement*: Friday: 62 minutes walking, 11,013 steps/day Saturday: 40 minutes walking, 15,661 steps/day Sunday: 21 minutes walking, 11,516 steps/day Monday: 33 minutes walking, 10,093 steps/day Tuesday: 45 minutes walking, 10,068 steps/day Wednesday: 61 minutes walking, 11,890 steps/day Thursday: 55 minutes Body Flow + 51 minutes walking, 12,133 steps/day * I track two different goals. I’m still collecting EXCUSES for not exercising: Excuses… we all make them. What are the ones you use most often? I thought maybe I’d try and address some of the more common “reasons why I don’t exercise” over the next month, but I need your help… tell me what your excuses are in the comments. How was your week? Did you hit any milestones? Try a new food or workout? Celebrate your week with...

A week ago, I only had 4,088 steps all day – my lowest since I’ve been tracking, but the rest of the week was pretty good. And while I ate a lot over the weekend (anniversary dinner out and a many-hours, catered baby shower), I did a pretty good job Monday-Wednesday, but too much again on Thursday. We’ll see how things go once the kids go back to school (next week) and I go back to work (after Labor Day). Excuses… we all make them. What are the ones you use most often? I thought maybe I’d try and address some of the more common “reasons why I don’t exercise” over the next month, but I need your help… tell me what your excuses are in the comments. My Week: While we are still on summer vacation here, I can tell school and work are getting close. We spent the week at various doctors’ appointments, school shopping, etc. I spent a lot of time in the car, and I feel like I didn’t get anything done, but I did get some walking in. I started listening to the first Dresden Files book by Jim Butcher, narrated by James Marsters, which was so engrossing that I probably walked a few extra steps each day just so I could keep listening. My Movement*: Friday: no exercise, 6,979 steps/day Saturday: 47 minutes walking, 11,174 steps/day Sunday: 61 minutes walking, 12,505 steps/day Monday: 38 minutes walking, 10,013 steps/day Tuesday: 50 minutes walking, 10,207 steps/day Wednesday: 30 minutes walking, 12,688 steps/day Thursday: 53 minutes Body Flow + 56 minutes walking, 11,725 steps/day * I track two different goals. The kids and I headed to Cape Cod with cousins on Sunday morning and just got home late Thursday night, and we had such a blast. Beach. Star Gazing (meteor shower). Sand. Games. Ice Cream. Eating. I did get a few walks in, but my step count is WAY down for the week. And because I was away, I didn’t weigh in on Monday. I have a feeling that number will be up next week. No worries! My Movement*: Friday: 54 minutes walking, 10,400 steps/day Saturday: 49  minutes walking, 11,880 steps/day Sunday: no walking, 6,286 steps/day Monday: 50 minutes walking, 10,827 steps/day Tuesday: 51 minutes walking, 8,379 steps/day Wednesday: 57 minutes walking, 15,883 steps/day Thursday: no walking, 6,702 steps/day * I track two different goals. Or, if you want to use this post as your weekly check-in, leave a comment telling us how your week went! My Week: One week into August, and I’m doing okay. When I weighed in at the beginning of the week, I was up a pound, but when I weighed in today, I was down a pound. I have been a bit more conscientious in my food/beverage choices, and while not perfect, I’ve been better this week. My daily exercise routine has stayed pretty much the same, which is good for now. I’ve noticed some aches and pains in my legs and hips… getting older sucks sometimes. I’m also adjusting to my blood pressure meds, which leave my lower legs feeling a little swollen. However, all-in-all, I’ve had a pretty good week. My Movement*: Friday: 30 minutes walking, 10,772 steps/day Saturday: 35  minutes walking, 10,231 steps/day Sunday: 58 minutes walking, 14,197 steps/day Monday: 45 + 36 minutes walking, 12,319 steps/day Tuesday: 62 minutes walking, 10,631 steps/day Wednesday: 43 minutes walking, 11,568 steps/day Thursday: 53 minutes BodyFlow, 57 minutes walking, 12,001 steps/day * I track two different goals. Or, if you want to use this post as your weekly check-in, leave a comment telling us how your week went! My Week: Here it is, the end of another month… How did your July go? Did you meet your goals? I didn’t have any special goals for specific to this month, other than my continuing weekly goals. Those goals are exercising 30 minutes/day for 6 days of the week, trying to reach 10,000 steps each day, plus logging all of my food each day. Overall, my month went well. This plan is working for me while I’m maintaining my current weight. I did gain 3.5 pounds over the month (lots of vacation time), but I’m still under my goal weight. Right now, I’m going to stick with this plan – working in my BodyFlow once a week when I’m home. My biggest focus at this point is trying to keep within a reasonable caloric intake. My Movement*: Friday: 65 minutes walking, 10,305 steps/day Saturday: 63  minutes walking, 10,497 steps/day Sunday: 60 + 43 minutes walking, 13,907 steps/day Monday: 60 minutes walking, 12,934 steps/day Tuesday: 60 minutes walking, 11,361 steps/day Wednesday: 30 minutes elliptical, 10,024 steps/day Thursday: 52 minutes BodyFlow, 60 minutes walking, 12,936 steps/day * I track two different goals. Or, if you want to use this post as your weekly check-in, leave a comment telling us how your week went! My Week: I love summer! But I’ve been so busy, I don’t think I’ve had time to stop and rest. Wait… I did go to the beach for a few hours on Wednesday! What I’m finding about summer is that it’s fairly easy to hit my daily step goal of 10,000 steps; however, I’m not doing my long/more intense walks like I did during the school/work year. I think that it’s okay because, generally, I’m moving a lot. I’m also still eating a lot. However, I did lose almost 2 of the “vacation pounds” my first full week back home. My Movement*: Friday: 51 minutes walking, 17,291 steps/day (afternoon at the fair!) Saturday: 55 minutes walking, 11,990 steps/day Sunday: 32 minutes walking, 12,144 steps/day Monday: 49 minutes walking, 11,275 steps/day Tuesday: 43 minutes walking, 13,179 steps/day Wednesday: 37 minutes elliptical, 15,963 steps/day Thursday: 55 minutes BodyFlow, 32 minutes walking, 11,035 steps/day * After a comment about my timed walking and the number of steps I record, I realized it might be confusing. I track two different goals. I hope that clarifies my movement data. Questions for YOU! How was your week? Did you hit any milestones? Try a new food or workout? Celebrate your week with...

Or, if you want to use this post as your weekly check-in, leave a comment telling us how your week went! My Week: I’ve been back home since Sunday evening. Our 2+ week vacation was great, but it’s so good to be home and getting our lives back on track – and it’s still summer vacation! I had my weigh-in on Monday, and I was up 4 pounds for the entire trip. I’m pleased with that because in the past, it would have been more (and I know this year, I’ll lose it within a couple weeks)! I exercised almost every day while I was gone (except, I did poorly the days we were in the car coming home). Since I’ve been back, my eating has been better, although I did splurge last night and went out with my girlfriend for margaritas! My workouts have been shorter than usual, but I’m getting my daily step average back up after low numbers for three days. My Movement*: Friday: 18 minutes walking, 7,967 steps/day Saturday: no exercise, 5,131 steps/day (car all day) Sunday: no exercise, 6,654 steps/day (car all day) Monday: 44 minutes walking, 13,062 steps/day Tuesday: 39 minutes walking, 11,442 steps/day Wednesday: 38 minutes elliptical, 10,155 steps/day Thursday: 55 minutes Body Flow, 36 minutes walking, 11,322 steps/day * After a comment about my timed walking and the number of steps I record, I realized it might be confusing.
