#FitReaders Check-In: December 4, 2015

#FitReaders Check-In: December 4, 2015 Welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group during 2015. For the rest of 2015 (October – December), I will be hosting the official check-ins. This is my weekly check-in post where I share about my week, and I hope you share about yours as well. If you have a weekly check-in blog post or put your updates on any social media site, please leave a link to your check-in posts in the comment section, below. Or, if you want to use this post as your weekly check-in, leave a comment telling us how your week went! (I only use the linky on the monthly commitment posts, for the weekly posts, I use the comments.) Dealing with December: December is here and that means 1) lots of parties and eating and 2) cold weather. These are both things that can hamper our progress and work towards being fit. Don’t stress about it! First… parties are fun and eating is enjoyable, so don’t punish yourself for having fun. I try to eat something small and healthy before I go to parties, so I won’t be as hungry. I also try to remember to have food that I don’t normally get – so I skip breads, chips, and regular dips, because I can have those anytime. Instead I try to sample all of the stuff I don’t have regularly. Second… cold weather and snow can make it more difficult to get outside. I still prefer being outside to working out on a machine, but indoor exercise is always an option. You can march in place, or do jumping jacks/jump rope. You can find a video or look online for a short workout. I still walk, but I bundle up and take it slow. I don’t want to slip and fall, so I use a flashlight, sometimes walk in my boots, and go slowly. Don’t get down if you aren’t doing your “normal” routine. Keep checking in and remember each day is a new day! Making Your Workout Fun! Okay… so I’m going to give a big shout out to Rachelle of Fortified by Books on this one… Have you seen this game?? It’s called Zombies, Run. According to Rachelle: The game involves “missions” which are about 30 minutes long (if you pay for the Pro edition you can adjust the times). Each mission is basically a workout session. You hit play and start walking or...

#FitReaders Check-In: November 27, 2015

#FitReaders Check-In: November 27, 2015 Welcome to #FitReaders!! (I only use the linky on the monthly commitment posts, for the weekly posts, I use the comments.) My Week: This was a fun week – with the Thanksgiving Holiday (U.S.) on Thursday, I only worked Monday and Tuesday. The kiddos were also off from school. Of course, this holiday is food-centric and I overate A LOT this week. I did get in my steps, so it mostly balanced out, with only a minor weight gain. Did you go for a walk or exercise in any manner on Thanksgiving? If so, be sure to see the fun mini-challenge Felicia and I hosted. If you did you walk, check in there or here and download your badge to show off! Click the turkey badge for more information. My Movement*: Friday: one walk totaling 16 minutes, 11,307 steps/day Saturday: one walk totaling 30 minutes, 11,425 steps/day Sunday: one walk totaling 52 minutes, 11,857 steps/day Monday: one walk totaling 40 minutes, 12,938 steps/day Tuesday: three walks totaling 56 minutes, 12,759 steps/day Wednesday: one walk totaling 48 minutes, 13,245 steps/day Thursday: THANKSGIVING one walk totaling 67 minutes, 15,031 steps/day * I track two different goals. The first goal is a timed duration of exercise – moving with the intent to raise my heart rate and get in some cardiovascular work. This is what I’m mean when I say “45 minutes walking.” The second goal is total daily steps. This is from my Fitbit, which measures all steps from 12:00AM – 11:59PM, exercise included. Sign up for November: It’s not too late!! Don’t forget to SIGN UP FOR NOVEMBER! and commit to exercising for the month. Sign ups from October through December will be at That’s What I’m Talking About. Questions for YOU! How was your week? Did you hit any milestones? Try a new food or workout? Celebrate your week with...

#FitReaders Check-In: November 20, 2015

#FitReaders Check-In: November 20, 2015 Welcome to #FitReaders!! (I only use the linky on the monthly commitment posts, for the weekly posts, I use the comments.) My Week: Not much to report this week. I’ve been participating in several challenges, which have encouraged me to get in more steps, even though I joke that I’ll never win one. I’ve been keeping up a good routine of both mini and long walks, while trying to be conscientious of my eating habits. One not so great thing happen this week on my walk – I was bit by a dog!! I was in the road, and she came off her property and bit me in the calf. I’m fine – she broke the skin, but through my pants, and the dog’s shots are all current (as are mine!). I’ll have a bruise, and it’s a little sore, but I’m more upset that this happened in my own neighborhood – what if it had been one of the dozen kids that play in the area? What if it had been the elderly woman with Parkinson’s that walks her dog every day? I haven’t been back out in the area since it happened, but I will either later today or over the weekend. I’m a bit worried about it, but not enough that it will stop me from going out. My Movement*: Friday: three walks totaling 75 minutes, 14,528 steps/day Saturday: one walk totaling 57 minutes, 13,137 steps/day Sunday: 22 active minutes, 10,263 steps/day Monday: one walk totaling 75 minutes, 16,746 steps/day Tuesday: three walks totaling 67 minutes, 13,427 steps/day Wednesday: two walks totaling 49 minutes, 13,156 steps/day Thursday: 55 minutes Body Flow + one walk totaling 40 minutes, 13,000+ steps/day * I track two different goals. The first goal is a timed duration of exercise – moving with the intent to raise my heart rate and get in some cardiovascular work. This is what I’m mean when I say “45 minutes walking.” The second...

#FitReaders Check-In: November 13, 2015 Welcome to #FitReaders!! (I only use the linky on the monthly commitment posts, for the weekly posts, I use the comments.) My Week: I started my week in Florida, visiting my folks. As I mentioned last week my mom likes to walk, additionally, she just got a Fitbit. So we were encouraging each other with a little bit of competition all weekend, making sure we both got in our 10,000 steps! We saw all sorts of interesting creatures on our walks: including a 4-foot alligator, snakes, frogs, and beautiful birds. I had a wonderful time – just mom, dad, and me! I also had a bit of a panic this week when my Fitbit stopped working. Luckily, #FitReaders Sheree and Chelle saved the day with tips on how to get it up and running again! I may have missed a couple thousand steps at the mall, but I still have a working Fitbit! My Movement*: Friday: one walk totaling 65 minutes, 12,661 steps/day Saturday: one walk totaling 62 minutes, 13,490 steps/day Sunday: one walk totaling 69, 13,255 steps/day Monday: two walks totaling 40 minutes, 11,799 steps/day (walked at the airport!) Tuesday: two walks totaling 41 minutes, 11,072 steps/day Wednesday: one walk totaling 43 minutes, 10,930 steps/day (Fitbit stopped working for 3 hours) Thursday: 55 minutes Body Flow + one walk totaling 51 minutes, 13,250+ steps/day * I track two different goals. The first goal is a timed duration of exercise – moving with the intent to raise my heart rate and get in some cardiovascular work. #FitReaders Check-In: November 6, 2015 Welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group during 2015. Or, if you want to use this post as your weekly check-in, leave a comment telling us how your week went! (I only use the linky on the monthly commitment posts, for the weekly posts, I use the comments.) My Week: This week really flew by. Last weekend was busy with Halloween and my brother-in-law’s birthday. I ate a LOT of candy, too. In fact on Monday, over 50% of my day’s calories could be classified as “fun size” or “mini.” EEP! But at least I got in several steps over the week. On Thursday I flew down to Florida to visit Mom and Dad. I’ll be here until Monday. It’s the first time I’ve gone to visit them without the kiddos. I’m checking in on my dad after his recent bout of hospital stays and heart troubles. My mom loves to walk – so I should have no troubles getting in a whole bunch of steps. I’ll let you know next week! My Movement*: Friday: trick-or-treat walking for 26 minutes, 11,690 steps/day Saturday: one walk totaling 35 minutes, 14,113 steps/day Sunday: no exercise, 5,357 steps/day Monday: one walk totaling 70 minutes, 14,170 steps/day Tuesday: two walks totaling 56 minutes, 11,387 steps/day Wednesday: three walks totaling 65 minutes, 12,992 steps/day Thursday: airport walking for 24 minutes, 10,000 steps/day * I track two different goals. The first goal is a timed duration of exercise – moving with the intent to raise my heart rate and get in some cardiovascular work. (I only use the linky on the monthly commitment posts, for the weekly posts, I use the comments.) My Week: I had a really busy week this week and found myself doing mini-walks instead of my usual longer walks. We have a very large classroom/training room at my office. I walk back and forth between the tables for about 10-15 minutes, twice per day, and can easily get about 3,000 steps or more while I’m at work. I did a decent job – even though I had two days under 10,000 steps. My Movement*: Friday: two walks totaling 30 minutes, 10,032 steps/day Saturday: no exercise, 6,759 steps/day Sunday: no exercise, 7,502 steps/day Monday: two walks totaling 78 minutes, 15,570 steps/day Tuesday: three walks totaling 47 minutes, 10,566 steps/day Wednesday: three walks totaling 55 minutes, 11,153 steps/day Thursday: 50 minutes Body Flow + two walks totaling 81 minutes, 17,420 steps/day * I track two different goals.
