#FitReaders Check-In: March 13, 2015 Welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group for the upcoming year. During the months of January – March 2015, Felicia will host the official check-ins. You can sign up by clicking the image above. You can also catch Felicia’s check in HERE. Please feel free to check-in with a comment here as well! My Week: Are you feeling like me… just barely make it? Getting through the day and feeling like nothing got done? Wondering where all the time went? Lately I’m feeling very overwhelmed. In the past when this would happen, I’d bury myself in comfort food and hide myself away indoors focusing on everything that’s “wrong.” While I have been overeating those Girl Scout cookies, raw cookie dough, popcorn, and other junk, I have made a big effort to continue to get outside and walk. The sunshine (WOO HOO!) makes the days seem better, and listening to my audiobook while walking and getting away from everything for 30-40 minutes has made a big difference in my ability to deal with “life.” Taking charge of one thing I can control – my body – helps center me a little bit each day. I hope that you too can find some peace of mind and heart! My Movement: Friday: 30 minutes downhill skiing (chaperone for ski club) Saturday: 38 minutes walking Sunday: 35 minutes walking Monday: 40 minutes walking Tuesday: 32 minutes walking Wednesday: 45 minutes walking w/my son Thursday:  41 minutes walking Notice… no shoveling this week!! This has been a very busy week for me and the kiddos – so coming off vacation was extra tough. But I managed to get my walking / workouts in, and that helped a lot mentally. Also, I am happy to report that after being away for almost two weeks, I’ve maintained my weight and holding strong at my goal! That is a huge win! Coming up in March, my goals are more of the same. I still want to add a weekly Body Flow/yoga class, but things are so crazy right now, I’m not going to force it. I just need to keep moving and get myself though this cold weather! My Movement: Friday: 33 minutes walking Saturday: none Sunday: 38 minutes walking Monday: 45 minutes walking + 25 minutes shoveling Tuesday: 75 minutes walking Wednesday: 61 minutes walking Thursday:  32 minutes walking How was your week? They reside in Ft. Myers, plus we took a mini-vacation to Key Largo to go snorkeling. It’s been so nice to not see any snow. My mom is a big walker, so she and I have managed to get in some great walks while I’ve been here. I’m not happy to be heading home today (Friday)… which is also my birthday! Back to the cold next week. 🙁 My Movement: Friday: 65 minutes walking Saturday: 47 minutes walking Sunday: 50+ minutes snorkeling Monday: none Tuesday: 55 minutes walking Wednesday: 44 minutes walking Thursday:  31 minutes walking How was your week? It also snowed during the week. And the temperatures have barely climbed above 0F with the windchill. It’s gotten to the point that I actively avoid the forecast, and the weather has driven me to tears. On the plus side, I got in a lot of shoveling for exercise. But it’s all better now because I am ON VACATION IN FLORIDA!! The family and I are visiting my folks and enjoying some sun. They have an amazing nature trail near their condo, and I am taking full advantage. I’m hoping this trip will lift my spirits and rejuvenate my soul. My Movement: Friday: none Saturday: 33 minutes walking Sunday: 38 + 60 minutes shoveling Monday: 45 minutes walking Tuesday: 31 minutes walking Wednesday: 47 minutes walking Thursday: 38 minutes walking How was your week? Please feel free to check-in with a comment here as well! My Week: The end of last week and over the weekend, I enjoyed some amazing book time at the Coastal Magic Con in Daytona, Florida. In only its third year, the con is remarkably well-run and so much fun. I highly recommend the trip next February! While there, I was able to get outside every morning with Liza (@MsLizaLou) and Jeffe Kennedy to get in our walking. Not to mention, the constant moving – I was well over 10,000 steps each day, which is probably why, even though I ate a lot, I didn’t gain any weight! Back home – you guessed it… more snow. It’s unreal. Everyone here is so down and frustrated with the snow. And guess what’s coming on Sunday? Another foot or more of snow. *sigh* My Movement: Friday: 33 minutes walking Saturday: 48 minutes walking Sunday: 46 minutes walking Monday: 65 minutes shoveling Tuesday: 32 minutes walking Wednesday: 35 minutes yoga/stretching Thursday: 35 minutes walking How was your week? Please feel free to check-in with a comment here as well! My Week: I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed and flustered right now. First – MORE SNOW at the beginning of the week meant kids at home and more shoveling. The roads were bad, even once plowed, so walking wasn’t really a great option for an intense workout. Second – I’m on vacation! That’s right… a quickie trip to Coastal Magic Con in Daytona Florida. While I’m here, I’m getting my steps in with fellow #FitReaders, but between the kids’ schedules and travel, I really haven’t been up to par. I missed THREE days this week, which means I did not make my goal. Third – the EATING! And that started back over the weekend with the Super Bowl! Oh well… I take it all in stride and do my best! This one week will not break me! My Movement: Friday: none Saturday: 20 minutes elliptical Sunday: 34 minutes walking Monday: 52 minutes shoveling Tuesday: 85 minutes walking Wednesday: none Thursday: none (travel) How was your week? #FitReaders Weekly Check-In: Jan. 30, 2015 Greetings 2015 and welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group for the upcoming year. During the months of January – March 2015, Felicia will host the official check-ins. You can catch this week’s post HERE. Please feel free to check-in with a comment here as well! My Week: SNOW… that describes my week! We had a lot of snow, first with a small storm on Saturday (5 inches), then the blizzard that started Monday night and went through early Wednesday morning. When all was said and done, we have nearly three feet of snow in our yard. Needless to say, I didn’t get in as much walking as I would like this week. I did find alternate ways to get my movement on, but I did miss my walks. Even the walks I did were VERY slow for me, on a count of the slippery conditions. One exciting thing I have to share is that I found a Body Flow class to try out on Thursday. According to their website “BODYFLOW™ is the Yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates workout that builds flexibility and strength and leaves you feeling centered and calm.” This is exactly what I was looking for to add to my weekly routine. I tried the class out this week, and I think I’m really going to enjoy adding it to my routine. It’s a lot of stretching, core work, and balance. My plan is to try to get to one class per week, although my February is pretty crazy. My Movement: Friday: 60 minutes downhill skiing (chaperoning ski club) Saturday: 33 minutes Just Dance workout via Xbox Sunday: 32 minutes walking Monday: 36 minutes walking Tuesday: 60 minutes shoveling Wednesday: 15 minutes shoveling + 34 minutes walking Thursday: 50 minutes BodyFlow + 35 minutes walking How was your week? My Week: This week was a good one. Busy, but good. Everyone here is healthy and happy, so I can’t complain. I got in my workouts and managed not to overeat last weekend when I was home alone with the kiddos. With the month almost over, I feel the need to find something new to add to my goals for next month. I really could use some help and motivation to try something new in either my workout or diet. Not because I want to lose weight, but rather to keep myself challenged and not become stagnant. Any suggestions? My Movement: Friday: 75 minutes downhill skiing (chaperoning ski club) Saturday: none Sunday: 46 minutes walking Monday: 60 minutes walking Tuesday: 76 minutes walking Wednesday: 30 minutes walking Thursday: 40 minutes walking How was your week? #FitReaders Weekly Check-In: Jan. 15, 2015 Greetings 2015 and welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group for the upcoming year. During the months of January – March 2015, Felicia will host the official check-ins. You can catch this week’s post HERE. Please feel free to check-in with a comment here as well! My Week: Before I jump into my week, I just wanted to share something with you all. Last Friday, I had a very busy day and was feeling a bit off because I hadn’t been able to stick to my usual exercise routine. That night when I jumped online, I was absolutely blown away by all of the positive comments left not only here, but at Felicia’s blog and all of the other #FitReader posts I found. This really lifted my spirits. I LOVE what a great, positive group #FitReaders is, and I’m bless to be a part of it. PLUS – I’m making new friends to chat with about books! Thank you all!! As I get my family and myself into a routine, I find that my eating has also stabilized. I’m not as apt to snack or eat lots of extra food when we have our routine. This has helped me stabilize my weight back at a couple of pounds below my goal weight. I’ve also continued to get in my workouts, even though I’ve had to take it a bit slower out due to slippery road conditions. I just remind myself to keep moving, even if it’s slower – it still counts! Plus, if I broke something and couldn’t walk, I’d be devastated! I’m home alone with the kids this long weekend – I foresee some junk food binge eating… so if you see my on Twitter, be sure to check in on me and remind me to stay on track! 😉 My Movement: Friday: 30 minutes downhill skiing (chaperoning ski club) Saturday: 20 minutes elliptical Sunday: 40 minutes walking Monday: 48 minutes walking Tuesday: 75 minutes walking Wednesday: 45 minutes walking Thursday: 36 minutes walking How was your week? #FitReaders Weekly Check-In: Jan. 9, 2015 Greetings 2015 and welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group for the upcoming year. During the months of January – March 2015, Felicia will host the official check-ins. You can catch this week’s post HERE. Please feel free to check-in with a comment here as well! My Week: One week under our belts during this new year and BRRRRR! it’s cold outside. I have been continuing to walk outside (long underwear and wool socks!) until today, when the “real feel” temperature didn’t rise about zero! I find that I get bored exercising indoors – even with my audiobooks to listen to. Now that the holidays are over and my family is in a routine, I’m eating better, and I’m happy to report that I’ve taken off the extra pounds I put on over the holidays. I’m planning just to stay the course over the next few weeks, however I am thinking of trying to add some flexibility or core strengthening activities in February. What do you suggest? Oh, and the GPS app I use to record my workouts, MapMyFitness, tells me my next goal is to “make friends.” Apparently users of the app who have friends have better success. Their email made me laugh because I already have such a great support network here! But… if you use MapMyFitness and want to “friend” me (I don’t know how this works), I’m under the name Jen Twimom. My Movement: Friday: 41 minutes walking Saturday: 44 minutes walking Sunday: 25 minutes shoveling + 23 minutes walking Monday: 52 minutes walking Tuesday: 47 minutes walking Wednesday: 32 minutes walking Thursday: 30 minutes elliptical How did the holidays go for you? Did you make any New Year’s Resolutions? Are you trying any new foods and/or exercise programs? What is #FitReaders?
