Cover Reveal & Giveaway: Repossessed by Shawntelle Madison

Cover Reveal & Giveaway: Repossessed by Shawntelle Madison Today I am excited to have paranormal/urban fantasy author Shawntelle Madison here at That’s What I’m Talking About. I adore her Coveted series, and had the opportunity to meet her last June at Lori Foster’s Reader-Author Get Together. I was totally thrilled when she asked if I’d help her reveal the cover of the first book in her new series. So without further ado, let me share with you the shiny new cover for Repossessed, the first book in her upcoming Warlock Repo Man Chronicles. About the Book: Supernatural matchmaker Tessa Dandridge knows a little mist here and a little magic there will help reckless werewolves and precocious pixies find love. That is, until her magical Smythe scroll is lost in her repo’ed car and she can’t contact her V.I.P. clients. To connect with an important client cavorting in the fifth dimension, Tessa must depend on handsome Rob Shin, a warlock repo man, to enter Limbo and find her Smythe scroll. Rob has money problems of his own, thanks to the bank determined to foreclose on his elderly aunt and uncle’s home. Repossessing magic wands and cursed pianos from disgruntled warlocks isn’t the best pay, but the Navy SEAL works well as a repo man to pay off his family’s debts. Rob’s repossession jobs catch up with him when a powerful warlock seeks to end his life for his constant meddling, drawing Tessa in the middle. New Look Unveiled Plus Giveaway!

New Look Unveiled Plus Giveaway! I’ve got a NEW LOOK! Welcome friends! I’m am super excited to present to you the new look of That’s What I’m Talking About. This is something that I’ve been working towards for about a year now, and I am SO PLEASED with the outcome. I want to thank Parajunkee Design for her hard work making my dream come true. She listened to everything I wanted and got it done for me. *LOVE* There is so much to explore! This all started in earnest this summer when Google/Blogger flagged my blog as spam and deleted it. That was not fun, but luckily I was able to get back my content fairly quickly. It was then that I finally made the decision to move away from Blogger to WordPress. At that time I started changing the look of our reviews – making things more streamlined and sleek. I was able to add some features that I didn’t have on Blogger. And now I’m at the final stage with a completed new design, including new buttons, avis, and signatures. You’ll not only see the new look here, but also on Twitter, FaceBook, GoodReads, Google, etc. I’ve also included several easy ways to follow the blog (see the sidebar). Added Security… Now that I’ve got the design and format I want, I need to protect it! Parajunkee helped by added a few security plugins. I’ve also changed the commenting system to Disqus, which is actually pretty simple to use. I was scared of it at first, but it’s really not bad at all! Please let me know if you have any issues trying to leave a comment. New Rating Scale! I’ve also finally changed to a letter rating scale. For a while now, our reviews have included both a letter and star rating. Now we are moving to letters only. Take a look at the new scale. What do you think? GIVEAWAY!!! In celebration of the new look here at That’s What I’m Talking About, I’m giving away a $20 [US] Gift Card to Amazon! To enter, fill out the Rafflecopter form, below. As part of your entry, please leave me a comment about what you like about the new look, layout and/or design. a Rafflecopter giveaway Note: Contest open to all, where not prohibited by law. If you have trouble with the Rafflecopter form, please email me at twimom227 (at) gmail (dot) com. So please take time and look around. The changes impact every...

Blog Tour & Review: Shock & Awe by Abigail Roux (plus Giveaway!)

Blog Tour & Review: Shock & Awe by Abigail Roux (plus Giveaway!) Shock & Awe (and Bait & Switch) Author: Abigail Roux  Reviewer: B. Rating: A+, 5 Stars What I’m Talking About: Born of an anti-smoking campaign, a healthy dose of serendipitous chemistry, and a contest bribe, Shock & Awe is, in my experience, one of the best gifts of writing an author has ever given to the fans. This offshoot of the Cut & Run series shouldn’t exist (I recommend looking up the chain of events if you don’t already know it—it’s a fun chain of events), but, thankfully, now does. Kelly wasn’t supposed to survive the events of Touch & Geaux, and Ms. Roux had other plans for Nick. But, the characters had a mind of their own, and altered the shape of things to come. I admit that I had mixed feelings about Nick O’Flaherty when he was formally introduced in the series. My heart was overruling my head, as has been a consistent side effect of reading Ms. Roux’s works, and it took a second reading for me to understand his perspective a little better. By the next book he appeared in, Armed & Dangerous, I began to love him, and upon finishing Touch & Geaux I was completely hooked. Nick is a good man through to his soul and a ferociously loyal friend, ranking his allegiance to Team Sidewinder—his real and chosen family—above all else. Kelly Abbott, on the other hand, has always been a favorite of mine. From his initial appearance, he’s been an open, shiny presence, living honestly and with a generosity of self that is so very rare it’s stunning. Referred to more than once as the “heart” of Team Sidewinder, Kelly lives his life without pretense or malice, his devotion to the other members of his unit unwavering and all encompassing. Similarly to Nick, they are the only real family he’s ever known, and there’s nothing he wouldn’t do for them. He is always willing to put himself on the line in every way for those he loves, even if it hurts him. One of the things that made me love Kelly even more in Shock & Awe is that, although Kelly wants everything that being with Nick promises to be, he knows Nick so well that he is willing to settle for whatever piece of himself his best friend is able to give. Though the chemistry between them is undeniable, their differences are substantial and add intensity and genuineness to their situation....

Author Guest Post & Giveaway: Sorcha Morbray

Author Guest Post & Giveaway: Sorcha Morbray Today I’m pleased to bring to you Sorcha Morbray who is here to talk about her new book, Claiming His Cowgirl. I am excited to see the next story in the One Night with a Cowboy series come out. I like these hot little short stories featuring a happy ending—or at least a happy for now. Once again set at the Golden Mustang Dude Ranch, this time I’m telling the story of the ranch owner. Cassie is a country girl at heart, which is why she loves the Golden Mustang—even if it is a mild version of real ranch life. Cassie, like some of us, was previously engaged. In her case environmental pressures hastened the end of the relationship. Her city-man couldn’t hack ranch life. Even the watered down version. That left Cassie alone to manage a business plus a ranch, which meant her love life got put on the back burner. I was once engaged—back when I was 19 and sure I was in love, the forever kind. Then reality intruded. I had to leave school, and with a little distance I realized the future wasn’t as bright as it had looked. I called off the engagement and sent his ring back. As often as we romance writers tell stories of love overcoming impossible odds—it ain’t always so. Of course we mere humans often go on to find love in other places which makes it easier to look back on past attempts with humor and wisdom. I want to hear about your near misses and brushes with forever. Or maybe the one that got away. Comment below and then be sure to enter to win prizes via the Rafflecopter form below (may be a link). About the Book: ***Warning: This story contains one dominant cowboy and the lady that will test his control. It also includes spanking, dominance, submission, bondage, and anal sex.*** Cassie Truhart is too busy with life and the Golden Mustang Dude Ranch to worry about love. Especially since her fiancé dumped her for an easier life in the city. Elbow deep in horseshit, she never expects to meet a man capable of commanding not only her attention, but possibly her love. Trent Jones agreed to a blind date to appease his pesky younger sister. He never imagined finding a woman that would rouse every dominant instinct he possessed, much less love. Good thing his real date cancelled at the last minute. As Cassie and Trent...

Review & Giveaway: Sing for the Dead by PJ Schnyder

Review & Giveaway: Sing for the Dead by PJ Schnyder Sing for the Dead Author: PJ Schnyder Reviewer: Jen Twimom Rating: B What I’m Talking About: After thoroughly enjoying the first book in the London Undead series, I was excited to pick up the second book, Sing for the Dead. Ms. Schnyder has created an interesting new world plagued by flesh eating zombies. London is a shell of its former self, with individuals quarantined inside and “zombie hunter tourists” enjoying the hunt. Unfortunately, someone or something is creating a newer, faster, smarter zombie, and it’s up to the local werewolf pack to figure out what’s going on. Sing for the Dead, showcases two individuals who are invested in finding out the truth. First up is Sorcha who is sent by the Fae Court of Light to London to find out why Fae are disappearing. Sorcha is half Baen Sidhe (banshee)–a peaceful Fae. Yet Sorcha craves violence, death, and the fight. Although her mother was peaceful, her father was a berserker, and Sorcha considers herself an aberration. Next we have Kayden, a were-leopard, which is very rare. Since leopards do not live in packs, he has allied himself with the local werewolves, but remains solo/solitary. The story takes place immediately after the conclusion of the first book, and the reader is treated to a few scenes featuring the main characters from that story. After fighting off a pack of Zombies, Sorcha tends to a wounded Brownie. Kayden comes across Sorcha and her patient, and he takes her to Maisie and Brian’s clinic, where we also meet up with Maisie’s mate, Seth (Bite Me). Sorcha is an interesting character. I love the dichotomy between her peaceful nature and the bloodlust of her berserker side. She is sweet, yet full of strength. I enjoy that she is respectful, but stays true to her own reasons for being in London. Although she agrees to work with Kayden and the wolf pack, she lets them know in no uncertain terms that she will not be pushed to the side or follow behind. There was an entertaining scene between Seth (alpha werewolf pack leader) and Kayden, who have a tenuous partnership. Kayden is too dominant and solitary to integrate into the wolf pack. As Sorcha picks up on this fact, part of her wants to see bloodshed between the two. The bloodlust is strong in her, giving her an edge we don’t normally see in romance heroines. I also enjoy Kayden’s honest and sometimes blunt...

Review & Giveaway: Bound by Wish and Mistletoe by Kat Bastion

Review & Giveaway: Bound by Wish and Mistletoe by Kat Bastion Bound by Wish and Mistletoe Author: Kat Bastion Reviewer: VampBard Rating: A+, 5 Stars What I’m Talking About: Kat Bastion has done it again!  Bound by Wish and Mistletoe, a follow-up holiday novella to her fabulous first title in her Highland Legends series, Forged in Dreams and Magick, offers the reader more insight to the wonderful world created.  And more of Iain and Isabel! I don’t think I’ve read a heroine as sassy as Susanna MacEalan in a long time.  To say that she begins as a reluctant participant in the ‘couple’ is an understatement.  With physical agility as well as tenacity to be free, she definitely was no wallflower in her battle of independence.  As Susanna grew as a character and learned to trust, she did have roadblocks to hurdle.  It wasn’t easy for her.  Learning to love – and BE loved – was probably the most difficult task she’d ever undertaken. Watching her build friendships with Isa and Iain’s sister was parallel to watching a newborn colt gain its legs.  As feisty as Susanna was, I think she found her match in Robert. Head of Iain’s guard, Robert had sworn-off women.  They’re all more trouble than they’re worth.  Always trying to manipulate him into a marriage proposal or some sort of commitment.  I found it fascinating that Robert just knew that Susanna was the one for him.  His inner voice telling him resistance was futile.  How he knew he’d win her over eventually.  How that big lug of a man went to the mat for this woman that he innately knew he loved, but merely wished would be able to one day love him back.  I was rooting for Robert from the first moment he saw Susanna. Over-all, this was a great way for me to catch another glimpse at Iain and pregnant-with-twins Isa.  I missed them.  Stoic Robert gets his HEA… and Isabel gets Christmas.  What a wonderful magick that is!  Excellent holiday novella, perfect for a cup of cocoa and snuggling under the blanket in front of the fireplace this holiday season! 5 stars: Personal favorite – a must read (A+) About the Book: Desperate to honor a life-long promise, Susanna MacEalan escapes her abusive clan with the fierce determination of never falling under the power of a man. Ever. Aggravated by shallow-hearted pursuing lasses, Robert Brodie, commander of his clan’s elite guard, has foresworn scheming women. Forever. When magick transforms Brodie Castle into a Christmas...

Blog Tour & Giveaway: Wallflower by Heidi Belleau

Blog Tour & Giveaway: Wallflower by Heidi Belleau Today I’m pleased to introduce to you m/m romance author Heidi Belleau. Her latest title, Wallflower is out and available for purchase. Please welcome Heidi to That’s What I’m Talking About. Hello hello! I’m Heidi Belleau, and all week I’m touring the interwebs promoting my new novel Wallflower, which is book two of my New Adult m/m series Rear Entrance Video, all about a group of roommates working at a seedy porn store. Every day this week I’ll be stopping by different blogs with new tidbits, behind-the-scenes info, and of course a contest! Read on! Five Questions from Sam Schooler Today on the tour, my friend and co-writer Sam Schooler, who was my genderqueer beta-reader on this book, sits me down for an interview! 1. Rob’s main challenge throughout Wallflower is his gender identity. In a binary world, he struggles to find a way to ride the line between genders. What made you decide to write a book about a non-binary trans* character? Well, partially it was because I hadn’t done it before and wanted to try. Partially because having a genderqueer character in this setting allowed me to write stuff I wouldn’t have been able to do with a cis guy. Namely, when I initially came up with REV, it was out of this desire to take my experiences working in a porn store and make a funny book out of them. And then I realized . . . shit, a lot of the funniest stuff that happened to me would never have happened if I wasn’t a woman. But more than just writing a story about a woman working in a porn store, I thought having Rob being genderqueer and going between both gender presentations (and passing) would really drive home the difference between how a man and a woman would experience the same job. So that’s a part of Rob’s journey: discovering that though presenting as a girl is deeply rewarding and fulfilling for him, it also comes with some weird, unexpected side effects. 2. While all the other REV employees are male, Rob presents as female when he’s working there. I know you worked in a porn store, so were any of the customer interactions he had with customers based on interactions of your own? Oh, yes. Yes, yes, yes. I changed names, of course, but definitely I wrote from experience.  We really did have a customer named Charlie VIP who frequented our store, who really did ask us...

Review & Giveaway: Someone Else’s Skye by Christine Wenrick

Review & Giveaway: Someone Else’s Skye by Christine Wenrick Someone Else’s Skye Author: Christine Wenrick  Reviewer: Nima Rating: A, 4.5 stars What I’m Talking About: “One night . . . one violent, supernatural battle . . . and five stories of the men whose lives will be changed by it.” Someone Else’s Skye is the first book in the Brahm Hill Series.  It follows Wenrick’s Charmed Trilogy which ended in the battle of Brahm Hill.  I felt the actual battle was a little anti-climatic in book three, but it set us up for this series.  I recommend reading the Charmed Trilogy first so that you are familiar with the characters and their back-stories as Wenrick does minimal recapping here. Sticking with what I felt was a successful format in her previous series, the storyline of Someone Else’s Skye keeps a tight focus on the two main characters, Skye Matthews, and Kane, a rare, natural shape-shifter.  Kane is not a bad boy, he’s a naughty boy, a playboy that we’ve secretly adored throughout the Charmed Trilogy.  In this first book of the Brahm Hill Series, it’s fun to see him want something, or more specifically someone, that he can’t have.  In the past he would have moved on, but there’s just something different about Skye and he can’t walk away; he can’t just leave it alone.  Skye is a new character (or is she?) who also introduces us to a new species of supernaturals that we were unaware of in previous books.  I like that Wenrick is continuing to expand the possibilities in her alternate world while keeping the individual stories tight enough to understand and integrate into the broad picture. This might have been just a four star read for me because it is a slow burn, at times just slightly overdone or repetitive.  I’ve bumped it up to four and a half because it explodes in a twist that I did not see coming.  I knew something was up, I had my guesses, but I was wrong.  I like it when I’m wrong. I like it when the author has me convinced it’s going to go one way and then justifies it going another.  Can’t wait for the next one! 4.5 stars: Loved it – enthusiastically recommend (A) About the Book: Kane, Brethren Guardian and one of the few Natural Shape-Shifters left in existence, survives the bloody battle of Brahm Hill but loses two of his closest friends. For all of his good-natured sarcasm and eye-popping good looks,...
