Spider’s Revenge ARC Giveaway

Spider’s Revenge ARC Giveaway When I was at Author’s After Dark this past August, I had the privilege of meeting the very talented and insanely sweet, Jennifer Estep. At the public book signing, she gave me a copy of her upcoming ELEMENTAL ASSASSIN SERIES fifth release, Spider’s Revenge (September 27, 2011; Pocket Books). Unfortunately, I haven’t read this amazing series yet (it’s on the TBR pile!), and I cannot due justice to Ms. Estep’s work by reading the 5th book without the knowledge of the first four. So this is where one of my readers gets lucky!! I am going to giveaway the ARC of Spider’s Revenge to one lucky person. HOWEVER, there is a catch… since this is an ARC, we owe it to Ms. Estep to publish a review. Therefore, if you win this book, you will need to do a guest review for That’s What I’m Talking About.  Don’t let that scare you – the review can be as short or long as you like. I just ask for some details about what you liked/didn’t like and a rating. I’ll format it and post it to my blog. Your review will be featured on September 28, 2011.   ABOUT THE BOOK: Old habits die hard. And I plan on murdering someone before the night is through.  Killing used to be my regular gig, after all. Gin Blanco, aka the Spider, assassin-for-hire. And I was very good at it. Now, I’m ready to make the one hit that truly matters: Mab Monroe, the dangerous Fire elemental who murdered my family when I was thirteen.  Oh, I don’t think the mission will be easy, but turns out it’s a bit more problematic than expected. The bitch knows I’m coming for her. So now I’m up against the army of lethal bounty hunters she hired to track me down. She also put a price on my baby sister’s head. Keeping Bria safe is my first priority. Taking Mab out is a close second.  Good thing I’ve got my powerful Stone and Ice magic — and my irresistible lover Owen Grayson — to watch my back. This battle has been years in the making, and there’s a chance I won’t survive. But if I’m going down, then Mab’s coming with me…no matter what I have to do to make that happen. In order to get the review posted on time, I am holding a SHORT contest, and I will priority mail the book to the winner ASAP....

ARC Review & Giveaway: Downpour

ARC Review & Giveaway: Downpour Downpour Author: Kat Richardson  Release Date: August 2, 2011 Publisher: Roc The Greywalker Novels #6 ISBN: #978-0451463982 Genre: Urban Fantasy Format(s): Hardcover (368 pgs), e-book Book Source: Publisher About the book:      After being shot in the back and dying—again—Harper’s recovery has been hard. She’s lost a great many of the powers she’d acquired since first becoming a Greywalker, and Harper knows that if she dies again, she won’t be coming back.      Her only respite from the chaos is her work. But while conducting a pre-trial investigation in the Olympic Peninsula, she witnesses the ghostly echo of a fatal car accident for which there are no records. Worse still, the victim of the wreck insists he was actually murdered, and that the nearby mountain resort—called “Blood Lake” by locals—is to blame.      The picturesque area is as unlikely a haven for conspiracy and malignant magic as Harper’s ever seen. But she soon learns that the icy waters of the lake hide a terrible power, and a host of hellish beings. And both are held under the thrall of sinister mages who will use the darkest of arts to achieve their fiendish ends… What G & U are talking about:      Downpour is the sixth book in the Greywalker Novels.  Let us first say that Una has not read any of the previous books, however, Gikany was able to read the first book in the series.  Even though there are references to previous experiences and moments, we feel it isn’t necessary to read the first five books to enjoy this one.  However, to get the full impact of the series, we would recommend starting from the beginning.      Downpour starts off with our heroine, Harper Blaine, doing some less than fabulous legwork for a pretrial hearing.  During the course of this, she runs across some strange creatures and power lines in the Grey. The Grey is an alternate, paranormal dimension that Harper can experience and witness ever since she died (in a previous novel). These events cause her to take a deeper look into her surroundings, which leads her to a ghost and a murder mystery.  What could be classified as a straight-laced detective drama/mystery is made more suspenseful and engaging with the element of the paranormal.  It creates a thoroughly grounded but surreal urban fantasy.      Gikany and Una enjoyed Downpour.  The mythology is very interesting and the way the paranormal is...

Author Guest Post & Giveaway – Cate Masters

Author Guest Post & Giveaway – Cate Masters Dear Readers, Today I have a special treat for you… A guest post and giveaway (details later) from author Cate Masters. Cate loves stories with a dash of magic, mayhem and romance! Multi-published in contemporary to historical, sweet to erotic, fantasy/dark fantasy to speculative, she sometimes mashes genres. Reviewers have described her stories as “so compelling, I did not want to put it down,” and “such romantic tales that really touch your soul.” When not spending time with her family, she can be found in her lair, concocting a magical brew of contemporary, historical, and fantasy/paranormal stories with her cat Chairman Maiow and dog Lily as company. Look for her at http://catemasters.blogspot.com, and in strange nooks and far-flung corners of the web. Please help me welcome Cate to That’s What I’m Talking About. Take it away, Cate… The Woo-Woo Moments in Life Reality can sometimes be a tricky thing. Ignoring strange events might extend the illusion that all’s well in your world. But then again, eventually those strange things might catch up to you. That’s what happened to my heroine, Jocelyn Gibson. Married for a long time to a nonbeliever, she ignores her unusual family history. After her husband dies, she buys an old Victorian to open a bed and breakfast – nothing out of the ordinary about that, right? Well… except that ley lines of energy run beneath the inn. What are ley lines? I’m so glad you asked! Throughout history, people have sought such energy lines for their mystical powers. Some to heal, some for personal gain. Because of their magnetic nature, animals are attuned to them, and many birds follow ley lines during migration. Stonehenge and the Great Pyramids at Giza are among the more well-known ley lines, and many today travel to Sedona, Arizona, to benefit from its positive force.  Tapping into a ley line is like having a direct line to magical energy. So when Joss buys the inn, it sparks a feud in the underworld. Lord Pluton, otherwise known as the devil himself, isn’t at all happy that someone with a connection to the fae and a goddess now lives atop those ley lines. Joss doesn’t learn about her goddess connection until moving there either. It comes as a surprise that she’s related to Iris, Goddess of the Rainbow. What about you – have you ever had a woo-woo moment, something that occurred you couldn’t simply explain away?  Leave a comment below by...

Author Interview & Giveaway – Stephanie Julian

Author Interview & Giveaway – Stephanie Julian Today I have the honor of bringing to you author Stephanie Julian.   Stephanie is author of a number of erotic/paranormal romance stories (several of which have been reviewed on That’s What I’m Talking About). A former reporter for a daily newspaper, Stephanie enjoys making up stories much more than writing about real life. She’s happily married to a Springsteen fanatic and is the mother of two sons, who love her even when they don’t have any clean clothes and dinner is a bowl of cereal. Please help me welcome Stephanie to That’s What I’m Talking About.  Twimom: Stephanie, welcome and thank you for stopping by. Stephanie: It’s wonderful to be here. Twimom: First off, congratulations on your newest release, What a Goddess Wants and kicking off your new “Forgotten Goddesses” series. (Readers, you can find my review HERE.)  What inspired you to discover and write about Etruscan culture and deities? Can you tell my readers a little more about the Etruscan civilization? (I had to google it!) Stephanie: Since my dad’s family is from Italy (my grandpop was from Sicily, my grandmom from Rome), I wanted to find a magical tradition that fit with my heritage. I didn’t want to do Wiccan, which is heavily based on Celtic traditions, because almost every magic book I’d read was based on this style. I knew a lot about the ancient Romans because I took four years of Latin in high school (I was pretty much a geek back then. Okay, I might still be a little bit of a geek.). But most people already have a preconceived notion about the Romans. I wanted a tradition I could play around with. And I found the Etruscans, from whom the Romans ripped off a lot of their ideas about government and religion. The Etruscans aren’t all that well known and there’s not so much information out there so I could make up stuff or mold the known details to my own purposes. Twimom: What are your plans for the future of this HOT series? Stephanie: There are another two books in the series contracted, How To Worship a Goddess and Goddess in the Middle. I love writing connected series and having favorite characters pop up through the stories. In How To Worship a Goddess, you’ll meet Lucy, Etruscan Goddess of the Moon, who falls hard for a hot, hunky hockey player named Brandon. Why hockey? Because I love it! In my home town,...
