Lara Adrian – Author Interview

Lara Adrian – Author Interview Welcome to Day 2 of my Lara Adrian/Midnight Breed Event and Giveaway. Today I have the pleasure of sharing with you an author interview with Ms. Adrian – author of the amazing Midnight Breed Series.  Please help me welcome Lara to my blog, That’s What I’m Talking About… Twimom: Lara, Thank you for finding time in your busy schedule to stop by. I’m wondering, do you have a favorite character or book from your Midnight Breed Series or does it vary with each book you write? If so, who is it and why…. Lara: I don’t have a favorite character or favorite book within the series. Part of that is a conscious effort, because as a writer—and particularly as a writer of a lengthy series that follows numerous characters—I think it’s important not to lavish all of my attention on one specific series “star”. As for the books themselves, my personal challenge is to deliver something fresh and new with each release. Hopefully, if I’m doing my job on that front, there are plenty of potential favorites for readers to choose from within the series. 🙂 Twimom: Yes, I do have my favorites! I think that Lucan is so masculine and dreamy! And the lonely, manly Harvard… I can’t wait for his day to shine!  In your MB series, your characters visit all sorts of locals – Europe, Alaska, Boston, etc. Have you visited any/all of these locations? How do you research the areas in order to capture the essence of the locales?  Lara: I’ve lived in New Hampshire for the past ten years, and I’ve also lived in the Boston suburbs and other parts of New England, so I am fairly familiar with the area where the Breed, and more specifically, the Order, is headquartered. As for the other series locales, my mom is German, and our family spent a month there when I was a kid, so it was great fun for me to be able to set some of the series storylines in Europe. Most of my location research is done via the Internet and travel books (I highly recommend the DK Eyewitness Travel Guides). I’m a research junkie, so I’ve clocked many hours (days, weeks!) poring over websites and travel photos, looking for interesting places and details to help bring my locations to life. Of course, in the end a lot of it comes down to imagination, and although there are bits and pieces of authenticity in my...

Meeting Lara Adrian – A Fangirl’s Experience

Meeting Lara Adrian – A Fangirl’s Experience Welcome to Day 1 of my Lara Adrian/Midnight Breed Event and Giveaway…One of the first paranormal authors I read was Lara Adrian.  Her books came recommended to me from a group of friends I fondly refer to as my “guttermates.” At the time her fifth Midnight Breed book was released, so I was able to read a whole bunch back-to-back, and I enjoyed every moment. The mythology–vampires are actually descendants from a vicious alien race that landed on earth years and years ago–is so unique and intriguing. What I love about her stories is the hot romance and overall story arc is coupled with exciting action and adventure. After I became active on Twitter, Lara was one of the first persons I followed, and the first author to follow me back. *Squee* On different occasions, we tweeted back and forth and shared stories about books and living in New Hampshire, where we both have resided the past 10 years. I bugged her about having any signings (hoping since I lived so close, I may actually be able to attend something), and she told me about the NH RWA Spring Fling in a neighboring town, where there would be a book fair and signing. At first I thought I would have to pay the $90 entrance fee to attend the signing, and I have to admit, I was really tempted! But then I found out that the signing was open to the public and I blocked the date and time on my calendar! So on Saturday May 15, 2010, after I fed my family, I hopped in my car and drove to the book fair. I was SO nervous. I had never met a famous person before. And authors are my rock stars – my movie stars, so I was really excited. I was worried that I would say something stupid or act too fangirl and scare Lara away (I could see the headline: Local woman is tossed from book fair for crazy behavior!) I parked my car and made my way into the hotel where the NH RWA conference was held. The place was packed with multiple events. I had heard about signings that have been standing room only and I was worried that maybe I should have gotten there sooner. But thankfully, the event I wanted was downstairs and not so crowded. In fact, when I walked into the room, I was surprised at how laid-back it all was. ...

WE LOVE GENA WEEK – Day #5: Review of The Darkest Passion

WE LOVE GENA WEEK – Day #5: Review of The Darkest Passion In celebration of Tuesday’s release, both Bells and I have our ARC-reviews of The Darkest Passion. You can read mine below and visit Hanging With Bells for her review. The Darkest Passion Author: Gena Showalter  Release Date: May 25, 2010 Publisher: Harlequin Publishing Lords of the Underworld Series Book #6 ISBN: #0373774559 NOTE: this is an ARC review that I obtained from NetGalley. I did not pay for the book, and I did not receive anything for this review. From the author’s website:      For weeks, the immortal warrior Aeron has sensed an invisible female presence.  An angel–a demon-assassin–has been sent to kill him.  Or has she?  Olivia claims she fell from the heavens, giving up immortality because she couldn’t bear to harm him. But trusting – and falling for – Olivia will endanger them all. So how has this ‘mortal’ with the huge blue eyes already unleashed Aeron’s darkest passion?     Now, with an enemy hot on his trail and his faithful demon companion determined to remove Olivia from his life, Aeron is trapped between duty and consuming desire. Worse still, a new executioner has been sent to do the job Olivia wouldn’t… What I’m talking about:      Ah: Aeron… How I have waiting for you since the beginning!  I have been in love with anticipating Aeron’s book since the first Lords of the Underworld story. And my wait was rewarded with this wonderful story.      My tattooed, black-winged hunk, Aeron, has been tormented by his demon, Wrath, for centuries. Wrath gives Aeron the ability to “see” an individual’s history – all of his/her sins, and creates a need in Aeron to destroy the individual for these sins. Cronus, the god king and ruler over the Lords, placed a curse upon Aeron in the first Lords book, which put him through terrible bloodlust, and he almost went insane. Once the curse was lifted, Aeron was able to get himself back together and maintain some sanity with the calming influence of his “daughter” demon, Legion.  That is until he meets darling Olivia, a true angel. She soothes Aeron and causes Wrath to purr. She gave up her heavenly existence and climbed out of hell to be with Aeron. She is naive, but brave – willing to give up everything just for a little fun and *wink, wink*.      Ms. Showalter does a fantastic job weaving a tale of star-crossed love. Their love story is a...

WE LOVE GENA WEEK – Day #3

WE LOVE GENA WEEK – Day #3 Welcome to WE LOVE GENA WEEK Day #3  where today Bells and I are discussion our favorite Lords, Books and Scenes. Be sure to hop over to Hanging with Bells to catch her post. I have to say it was easy picking my favorite Lord because he’s been the same all along. However, my favorite book and scenes was much harder. The books are all so great and each has such memorable moments. Every book is unique in story and I love them all! So I’ll start with the easy one… FAVORITE LORD: Aeron. *sigh* He was existing as a Lord and warrior in Budapest until a horrible curse was placed on him by the king of the gods, Cronus. He slowly went mad and well… I’m not going to tell you all what happens because a lot of you haven’t yet read the series.  He is the subject of the upcoming book, The Darkest Passion. Here is how his true love describes Aeron in the book: … he looked gorgeous. He was tall and mouthwateringly muscled, with the most amazing violet eyes fringed by long black lashes. His dark hair was cropped nearly to his scalp… He was heavily tattooed, even on the perfectly sculpted planes of his face. Each of those tattoos depicted something gruesome… Yet amid all the violence were two sapphire butterflies, one riding his ribs and one outlining the wings on his back. Yes ladies… this male has wings! And they aren’t the feathery-fluffy kind that angels have. They are “long and black and [look] as soft as gossamer, but the ends [are] pointed, sharp as knives.” Oh, Aeron is a total bad ass with a heart of gold (once you get past the whole “keeper of wrath” thing!) FAVORITE BOOK: This really was a tough because the books are all great. Aeron is my favorite LORD and The Darkest Passion is AMAZING! However, I still have a soft spot for the third book in this series, The Darkest Pleasure.  The first three books really set up the world and were very intertwined. The key players in Pleasure (Reyes and Danika) were introduced early on in the first book and their story unfolded during the first three books. But it was in The Darkest Pleasure that their story climaxed in a triumphant pairing. However, it wasn’t just their story that made the book great. There were big reveals and plot twists that keep me...

WE LOVE GENA WEEK – Day #2

WE LOVE GENA WEEK – Day #2 Welcome to Day #2 of WE LOVE GENA WEEK brought to you by Bells over at Hanging With Bells and me. We are celebrating our love for Gena Showalter’s Lords of the Underworld series. The newest book, The Darkest Passion, will be released on Tuesday May 25, 2010. Today I’m going to give you the 411 on the LORDS… First I’ll give you a quick primer on the world of the LORDS…The books are loosely based in Greek mythology and the story of Pandora’s Box. Long ago, some of the most evil demons escaped the underworld. These demons were trapped in a special box. One of the Greek gods’ trusted warriors, Pandora, was asked to guard the box. All of the other immortal warriors were jealous that Pandora was selected for this great honor. They ganged up and opened the box-killing Pandora in the process. Well, these evil demons could not be left to roam the earth, so the gods forced the demons into new prisons – the bodies of the very warriors that freed them. Now each warrior lives daily with a specific demon, tormented by the desires for evil within them. (Example: Reyes – Keeper of Pain – must continual cut and hurt himself to satisfy his inner demon.) Those demons are a part of the very fabric that makes up each warrior, and if the demons are put back into Pandora’s box, the warriors will die. Of course, like any great series, we have “the bad guys.” In this series they are humans called “The Hunters.” They (falsely) believe that the Lords are at fault for all of the evil in the world. The Hunters’ mission is to kill every last Lord. And we quickly find out that they are getting help from someone/thing that is NOT human. Also toss in that the original titans (lead by Cronus) have overthrown the Greek gods and the heavenly world is in chaos. Meet the Warriors: Maddox – Keeper of ViolenceLucien – Keeper of DeathReyes – Keeper of PainSabin – Keeper of DoubtAeron – Keeper of WrathGideon – Keeper of LiesAmun – Keeper of SecretsStrider – Keeper of DefeatParis – Keeper of PromiscuityTorin – Keeper of DiseaseCameo – Keeper of Misery (and the only female Lord)Kane – Keeper of DisasterBaden – Keeper of Distrust (deceased)Honorable Mention:William – Immortal friend of Anya (Lucien’s mate we meet in Book #2) Book Order: For more great behind the scenes information about the...
