Mistletoe Madness 2015: Katie Reus

Mistletoe Madness 2015: Katie Reus Thank you for stopping by That’s What I’m Talking About for today’s Mistletoe Madness spot. This year’s event is hosted by Blogging by Liza, Books Make Me Happy, and That’s What I’m Talking About. It’s is a two week event where authors with 2015 winter releases (November 2015 — January 2016) will take over our blogs with guest posts written from one of their character’s POV with a holiday theme (Christmas, Hanukkah, Festivus, New Years, etc.). For a line up of all of the authors featured at all three blogs, please click on the image above or go to the kickoff post from December 1, 2015. Today’s Mistletoe Madness author is… Katie Reus Book: All He Wants for Christmas Release Date: December 1, 2015 Series: Multi-Author Anthology Thanks so much to Jen for having me here today! I’m a teeny bit obsessed with Christmas time and listen to Christmas music all year. My little one is now old enough that he realizes that’s not normal and likes to tell me “you’re so weird mommy” even as he sings along to Jingle Bells in July. I definitely don’t wait until after Thanksgiving to start the Christmas decorations and we have… usually 4-5 trees. Maybe more this year. So when the anthology group I’m part of started talking about doing a Christmas anthology I was in heaven. All He Wants for Christmas is 6 all new stories, all set in the fictional town of Holly, NC, where it’s Christmas 365 days a year. Today my heroine Nora is taking over to let you know one of her favorite recipes (it’s easy!). From Nora (Merry Christmas, Baby) When my sister and I moved to Holly, NC, a place where it’s Christmas year round I wasn’t sure what to expect. Because when we were growing up, our mom hated the holidays. It made the season a little depressing. Now that I own a bookstore/coffee shop right off Main Street in the most festive town in the country, it’s hard not to get into the spirit. But my knowledge of Christmas movies was sorely lacking until I met and fell for sexy, former SEAL Jackson O’Connor. He’s assured me that the best Christmas movies are: A Christmas Story Elf Die Hard Turns out he’s right, though his obsession with Die Hard is a little frightening. Since movie time isn’t complete without snacks I introduced him to candy cane cocoa. He was more interested in getting creative with the whipped cream—and I didn’t...

Today’s Mistletoe Madness author is… Stephanie Julian Book: Strings Attached Release Date: November 17, 2015 Series: Baseline Sins #1 (Salon Games spin-off) Christmas Music by Stephanie Julian The holidays wouldn’t be a magical for me without holiday music. Actually, I can’t live without music in my everyday life but at the holidays, there’s a whole new playlist. As much as I love a good Mitch Miller carol, I’m a rock girl. Which is why my newest release, Strings Attached, features rock stars. Baz Valenti is the lead guitarist for Baseline Sins. After an accidental overdose a year ago, he and his band haven’t performed together. He’s been writing music for movies but he misses his band. He’s ready to get back to his rock roots. He just doesn’t know how to find his way back to his bandmates. Music has always been the driving force in Baz’s life. And it wouldn’t be Christmas without some good rock songs. So what’s on Baz’s playlist at Christmas? 12. “Yule Shoot Yer Eye Out,” Fall Out Boy 11. “The Christmas Song,” New Found Glory 10. “Father Christmas,” The Kinks 9. “Please Come Home For Christmas,” The Eagles 8. “Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth,” David Bowie and Bing Crosby 7. “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” My Chemical Romance 6. “Merry Christmas From the Family,” Robert Earl Keen 5. “Please Come Home For Christmas,” Bon Jovi 4. “Last Christmas,” Jimmy Eat World (Wham! Cover) 3. “Fool’s Christmas,” All Time Low 2. “Do They Know It’s Christmas Time,” Band-Aid 1. “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town,” Bruce Springsteen About the Book: On the surface, Sebastian “Baz” Valenti is a rock god with the lifestyle to match. With his drop-dead gorgeous looks and his band, Baseline Sins, at the top of the charts, he can have any woman he wants. But the constant touring and recording has...

Today’s Mistletoe Madness author is… Jessica Jarman Book: Safeword Protected Release Date: December 2015 Series: Bound #6 A Note From Clara Merry Christmas! Now, me? I don’t do holidays. Haven’t since my parents died. That sounds pretty sad and pathetic, doesn’t it? But it’s really not. I’m not sitting around crying into my cocoa come Christmas or anything. No, I’m usually at a fabulous resort, sipping a fruity drink poolside, and I have no problems with that. I make sure to call the family I have left—my cousins, aunts and uncles in Ireland—and always send my gifts so they have them Christmas morning. And that has been enough for me. But the coming Christmas, I don’t have a choice. I’ll be doing holidays with the family. My cousin, Maire, is having a baby, and I’ve promised to take some time off and be there for the birth and, since she’s due in November, for the baby’s first Christmas. How do you say no to a pregnant woman, especially when you love her more than life and she turns on the tears? You can’t. Or at least I can’t. While I’m sort of excited—reconnecting with Maire alone makes any promise worth it—knowing what’s coming is making me think back to Christmases with Mum and Dad. Even though it had just been the three of us, there’d been so much laughter and love. Messing around in the kitchen, helping Mum make plum pudding. I could still hear her tinkling laugh that always came when I asked, every single year, why it was called plum pudding when not a single plum was in the thing. I could see Dad’s grinning face as he lit the brandy and poured it over the pudding. I wonder if Maire’s mum uses the same recipe, or if they even have the same tradition of making it every Christmas. If...

Stop swearing. “Sh*t,” she grumbled as a big ink stain smeared the paper. “My pen broke. Brian! Do you have a pen? Damn it. I already broke this resolution. F**k it.” She grabbed the pen Ty held and crossed the resolution off. Stop swearing. She tried again. Lose weight. “Oh hell no.” Ty grabbed the pen back and crossed out her new number one. Lose weight. “I like you just the way you are,” he said, squeezing her ass cheek, at least the part he could reach that hung off the barstool. “Don’t even think about losing any of this.” Randi sighed. She stared at the paper, thinking hard. She couldn’t come up with a damn thing. “Now what the f**k am I going to write?” she complained. “This was your idea. What did you write?” “I meant for you to put stuff like be more agreeable at work,” Ty told her patiently. “I’m agreeable,” Randi said, instantly on the defensive. “How’s that cop you hit last week?” he asked. “He failed to identify himself as a fellow officer of the law,” she said through clenched teeth. “And he was in my territory. I was cleared of all charges.” “Mm hmm,” Ty said, clearly unconvinced. “How about be more patient with Ty’s mom?” Brian asked, walking across the kitchen to lean over the counter. He slid her list around to look at it. He shook his head with a sad expression. “Now that she’s moved to Birmingham she wants to mother me,” Randi said, making a face. “What am I supposed to do with that? As you know, my...

Jean Lafitte) Bonjour and an early joyeux Noël. It is I, Jean Lafitte, who will have the honor of having several guests celebrating the holiday this year at my home on Grand Terre Island, in the state of Louisiane, circa 1814. Among them will be my most lovely Jolie, the wizardess Drusilla, who is often difficult and disagreeable but who has promised to be pleasant for at least the holiday. My business partner Rene, a merman, shall also be here, as will my employee Jacob Warin, a loup-garou, and his betrothed, and a vampire, Adrian Hoffman, although I do not believe monsieur Hoffman will be participating in the feasting, as his tastes run more à boire du sang. *DJ: That makes it sound more pleasant than “he drinks blood.” And I only promised to be nice for Christmas Day itself, not for the days leading up to it. Just so we’re clear.* Bah, no interruptions please, Jolie. This is a rude trait we must address at a later time. I have very fond memories of the many holidays enjoyed at sea with my men during my human life so many years ago and— *DJ: Not years. Centuries. So many centuries ago.* *Rene: Don’t taunt the pirate, babe. He might make you walk his plank, if you know what I mean.* *DJ: Hush!* Why are you blushing so prettily, Jolie? Ah, you do not mean the plank of a ship but le verge of a man? …..Yes, we certainly must discuss this plank-walking later, oui? *DJ: What’s a verge? *Rene: Means “rod,” babe.* *DJ: I…No!* *Rene: Can I watch. I—ow. You got sharp elbows, wizard.* *DJ: Stop...

Today’s Mistletoe Madness author is… Sorcha Mowbray Book: A Cowboy’s Christmas Wish Release Date: November 2015 Series: One Night With A Cowboy #3 Girl Talk with Mel Hi everyone! I’m Mel, short for Melissa. I have to tell you I used to hate the holidays. See, my mom died around the holidays. So, even though she wasn’t much of a mom, I still felt extra lonely. At least, I did until Ford came back into my life. Ford Grayson was the boy I fell in love with when I was in high school. But, as boys are won’t to do, he took off for college. Me? I had big plans, but of course they all collapsed when I realized I had to stay in Tuckerville, TX and make sure my mom didn’t kill herself or worse, someone else. So it was no surprise when the boy I loved dumped me after he discovered all the fun he could have at college. I hated Ford for ten long years. And it seemed every Christmas was a real poke in the eye to remind me of all that had gone wrong in my life. But then all that changed. See, I was working at The Silo a few days before Christmas, when a ghost of Christmas’ past strolled into the bar. Ford. An older, taller, and much, much sexier, Ford. Holy crap! Needless to say, I was all set to teach him a lesson and hopefully get some closure. But, that man had more up his sleeve than I ever expected. I won’t bore you with all the details. (Read the book!) But, he blew into my world and turned everything upside down. Now, we’re about to get married…a Christmas wedding. Well, that is if I don’t kill the bossy, obstinate man.  Since I get to plan the ultimate Christmas Wedding I need a...

Today’s Mistletoe Madness author is… Cat Johnson Book: Tempted by a SEAL Release Date: January 12, 2016 Series: Hot SEALs #6 The 3 Rules of Christmas According Navy SEAL hero Mack So you want to land a SEAL? Or maybe you already are in a relationship with one and you’d like to know what to do for him for the holidays. Why you’d want to be with one of us long term is beyond me, but if you do, here are a few Christmas dos and don’ts. No Sugar Cookies – No. Just no. Never ever make a SEAL sugar cookies. Why not? I’ll tell you. In BUD/S training the instructors made us do what is called sugar cookies. Basically rolling around in our wet uniforms in the sand at Coronado. The words sugar cookie will always remind me of being wet and cold and exhausted for hours, with no end in sight.  If you want to make me cookies for Christmas, make them Rum Balls and we’ll both be a lot happier. No Bells – The same goes for bells as for sugar cookies. Yeah, yeah, I know… every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings. Well, that’s Jimmy Stewart’s world in It’s a Wonderful Life. In a SEALs world, during BUD/S every time a bell rings it means another guy dropped out of the course. Wanna see a SEAL twitch? Ring a damn bell and watch closely. Lingerie Works – As far as gifts go, we probably want something you’ll never ever think to buy for us. A new scope for our rifle. Night vision goggles (the four tube NVGs, not those crappy two tube ones). Don’t bother trying to get me anything like that. You’ll never get it right. Just get me lingerie. No, not for me to wear, silly. For you to wear for me. It’s...
