Saturday Conversations: 2014 Goals December Update

Saturday Conversations: 2014 Goals December Update December 2014 Summary Back at the beginning of the new year, I listed my 2014 reading and blogging goals. I plan to post monthly updates on my goals as one of my Saturday Conversation posts near the end/beginning of each month. GoodReads Reading Challenge… 100 Books. In December 2014 (and at the time I’m writing this) I finished 13 books: Book #113: Dragon Slayer by Eleri Stone (December 2, 2014) Book #114: Murder of Crows by Anne Bishop (December 3, 2014) – Audiobook Book #115: Fairest of All by Sarah Mlynowski (December 4, 2014) – Audiobook Book #116: Three the Hard Way by Sydney Croft (December 5, 2014) Book #117: Going All In by Alannah Lynne (December 9, 2014) Book #118: Night with a SEAL by Cat Johnson (December 10, 2014) Book #119: Saved by a SEAL by Cat Johnson (December 10, 2014) Book #120: The Scorch Trials by James Dashner (December 11, 2014) – Audiobook Book #121: Beneath a Trojan Moon by Anna Hackett (December 11, 2014) Book #122: Beyond Galaxy’s Edge by Anna Hackett (December 17, 2014) Book #123: SEALed at Midnight by Cat Johnson (December 20, 2014) Book #124: The Grendel Affair by Lisa Shearin (December 20, 2014) – Audiobook Book #125: Fragmented by Stephanie Tyler (December 24, 2014) As you can see, I blew away my goal, with 23 titles coming as audiobooks and 3 additional titles as a mix between audio and Kindle. I will probably get at least one or two more books in before the end of 2014, so if you want to see my COMPLETE READING LIST from 2014, check out my Shelfari page. Reading books off of my TRB pile instead of picking up new-to-me authors and series. I listened to the second Maze Runner series book, which was on my TBR, but I also bought new books. As for 2014, I did a decent job on this goal. With audiobooks, I tackled the Mercy Thompson series, as well as finished the first five Elemental Assassin books, which have been on my TBR for years. I plan to do more of the same in 2015. Featuring more LGBTQ authors and books on the blog. In December 2014, we featured three reviews and two blog tour spotlights.  During 2014, I had hoped to feature more lesbian romance authors and works, because I feel these works are being overlooked. I was able to get a few reviews and a couple of authors on the blog, but not as...

Saturday Conversations: 2014 Goals November Update

Saturday Conversations: 2014 Goals November Update November 2014 Summary Back at the beginning of the new year, I listed my 2014 reading and blogging goals. I plan to post monthly updates on my goals as one of my Saturday Conversation posts near the end/beginning of each month. GoodReads Reading Challenge… 100 Books. In November 2014 I finished 10 books: Book #103: What a Woman Gets by Judi Fennell (November 1, 2014) Book #104: Hunting Ground by Patricia Briggs (November 4, 2014) – Audiobook Book #105: The Darkest Touch by Gena Showalter (November 8, 2014) Book #106: I’m Dreaming of an Undead Christmas by Molly Harper (November 10, 2014) Book #107: Fair Game by Patricia Briggs (November 10, 2014) – Audiobook Book #108: Night Shift anthology (November 16, 2014) Book #109: Written in Red by Anne Bishop (November 19, 2014) – Audiobook Book #110: On a Rogue Planet by Anna Hackett (November 20, 2014) Book #111: Revenant by Larissa Ione (November 26, 2014) Book #112: Her Holiday Man by Shannon Stacey (November 29, 2014) November was a slower month for me. I think the biggest reason is that the Anne Bishop audiobooks are massive, taking almost twice as much time to finish as most of the others I’ve listened to prior. However, I have completed over 100 books already, so no worries! Reading books off of my TRB pile instead of picking up new-to-me authors and series. I didn’t knock off any TRB’s this month, and I bought new books. Eep! I totally failed at this goal during November. Featuring more LGBTQ authors and books on the blog. In November 2014, we featured three reviews and two blog tour spotlights. Spending more time reading and less time tweaking the blog. I have been spending more time blogging lately, in preparation of my big holiday event next month. You’ll see more of that soon! This is normal and expected for this time of year, and I don’t feel like my reading was “neglected” because of blog work. Opening up Sunday Snippets to authors as a chance to spotlight his/her work. This has REALLY taken off! All Sunday Snippets in November were submitted directly by the authors and/or publicists, and we are currently booked up all the way through January! Continue Saturday Conversations Posts, but open them up. As I wrote in my post dated March 15, 2014, I’m dropping the weekly Saturday Conversations post. Other than my monthly update, there are no Saturday Conversations for now. However starting next year I’ve got a fun...

I am so excited! 19 of the books were either partial or all audiobooks. I admit it – I am addicted to audiobooks now! Reading books off of my TRB pile instead of picking up new-to-me authors and series. I continued to devour the Mercy Thompson series (from my TBR) and a Molly Harper book, which was also on my TBR. Featuring more LGBTQ authors and books on the blog. In September 2014, we featured two reviews, one blog tour spot, and one author interview. Spending more time reading and less time tweaking the blog. Done. Read/listened to 14 books! Opening up Sunday Snippets to authors as a chance to spotlight his/her work. This has REALLY taken off! All four Sunday Snippets in October were submitted directly by the authors and/or publicists, and we are currently booked up all the way into mid-January! Continue Saturday Conversations Posts, but open them up. As I wrote in my post dated March 15, 2014, I’m dropping the weekly Saturday Conversations post. Other than my monthly update, there are no Saturday Conversations for now. I’ve also been participating in...

Therefore, at 88 books so far this year, I am way ahead of schedule! Reading books off of my TRB pile instead of picking up new-to-me authors and series. This is a HUGE yes for me this month! Not only did I complete the TBR of the first five books in the Elemental Assassin series, but I have started to read/listened to the MERCY THOMPSON SERIES!! This series has been on my TBR longer than any of the other books, and I am so glad I’ve finally started it. After I became hooked on the audiobooks for this series on the first title, Moon Called, I found myself reading it on my Kindle (because I have owned it forever!) as well. The combination of reading and listening had me hooked and lead me right in to the subsequent titles! Yea!! Featuring more LGBTQ authors and books on the blog. In September 2014, we only featured one review and one author guest post in the LGBTQ category. This bums me out – I think it will be better next month! Spending more time reading and less time tweaking the blog. Done. Read/listened to twelve books! Opening up Sunday Snippets to authors as a chance to...

Saturday Conversations: 2014 Goals August Update

Saturday Conversations: 2014 Goals August Update August 2014 summary Back at the beginning of the new year, I listed my 2014 reading and blogging goals. I plan to post monthly updates on my goals as one of my Saturday Conversation posts near the end/beginning of each month. GoodReads Reading Challenge… 100 Books. In August 2014 I finished 11 books: Book #66: In the Devil’s Nebula by Anna Hackett (August 3, 2014)Book #67: Spider’s Bite by Jennifer Estep (August 5, 2014) – AudiobookBook #68: One Night More by Mandy Baxter (August 10, 2014)Book #69: Daylight Again by SE Jakes (August 15, 2014)Book #70: Playing with Fire by Cynthia Eden (August 18, 2014)Book #71: Unfettered by Sasha White (August 18, 2014)Book #72: Not Fade Away by SE Jakes (August 19, 2014)Book #73: Web of Lies by Jennifer Estep (August 21, 2014) – AudiobookBook #74: The Maze Runner by James Dashner (August 22, 2014)Book #75: Forged by Desire by Bec McMaster (August 27, 2014) Book #76: The Curious Case of the Clockwork Menace by Bec McMaster (August 29, 2014) I’ve continued to listen to audiobooks, but not at the same crazy pace I did in July. I’m listening to the first five books in the Elemental Assassin series – a series I picked up with book #5.5.  If I want to finish 100 books by the end of the year, I need to read/listen on average 8.33 books per month, which is about 67 books through 8 months. Therefore, at 76 books so far this year, I am way ahead of schedule! Reading books off of my TRB pile instead of picking up new-to-me authors and series. I actually did read a book from my TBR this month! I read the third book in the Hell or High Water series by S.E. Jakes, and also picked up the recently released novella in the series (I’m now all caught up in this series!). In addition, the first five books in the Elemental Assassin series have been on my TBR since I starting reading the series in the middle. I really enjoy this series a LOT and am glad to finally be back at the beginning. I also found time to read a book with my son, The Maze Runner. He wanted to read this one after meeting the author last spring, and I agreed to read it with him. It wasn’t on my TBR list, but it was worth it! Now the next two books in the series are on my TBR! Featuring more LGBTQ authors and books on the...

I wrote a post about my audiobook experience too.  If I want to finish 100 books by the end of the year, I need to read on average 8.33 books per month, which is just over 58 books through 6 months. Therefore, at 65 books so far this year, I am ahead of schedule! Reading books off of my TRB pile instead of picking up new-to-me authors and series. I actually did read a book from my TBR this month! The Hell or High Water series by S.E. Jakes has been on my Kindle since B. reviewed it for the blog. I read story 2.5 from that series (Dirty Deeds). I also finished the “re-read” of the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews just for fun. This is my favorite UF series, and I’ve been wanting to re-read the series for about a year. I’m glad I’m finally getting to it! I did purchase a new book and devoured it… His Marriage Bargain, after hosting Sidney Bristol and reading an excerpt. I couldn’t help myself! Featuring more LGBTQ authors and books on the blog. In July 2014, we featured two reviews and two blog tours of LGBTQ books. Spending more time reading and less time tweaking the blog. Other than working on updating old blog posts as new books were reviewed in the series, I stayed away from any major changes. Opening up Sunday Snippets to authors as a chance to spotlight his/her work. This has REALLY taken off! All three Sunday Snippets in July were submitted directly by the...

This is new for me. I am doing a “re-read” of the Kate Daniels series, and I’m loving it so far. I will be posting more about that in July. If I want to finish 100 books by the end of the year, I need to read on average 8.33 books per month, which is 50 books through 6 months. Therefore, at 55 books so far this year, I am right on track! Reading books off of my TRB pile instead of picking up new-to-me authors and series. I actually did read a book from my TBR this month! The Hell or High Water series by S.E. Jakes has been on my Kindle since B. reviewed it for the blog. I’m also doing the “re-read” of the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews just for fun. That puts the tally at 41.7 books through 5 months, so I am right on track! Reading books off of my TRB pile instead of picking up new-to-me authors and series. I actually did read a book from my TBR this month! Clean Sweep by Ilona Andrews has been on my Kindle since last fall. And although it was a new purchase, I did read Holiday Sparks by Shannon Stacy just for fun. Featuring more LGBTQ authors and books on the blog. In May 2014, we featured three m/m reviews (two with blog tours) and featured our first f/f Sunday Snippet. I have been working with Riptide Publishing to feature more LGBTQ authors and books. Spending more time reading and less time tweaking the blog. Other than working on updating old blog posts as new books were reviewed in the series, I stayed away from any major changes. Saturday Conversations: 2014 Goals April Update

Saturday Conversations: 2014 Goals April Update April 2014 summary Okay, okay… so it’s only FRIDAY… but I’ve got my weekly review of the Kraken King tomorrow, so I figured I would post my Saturday update today! Back at the beginning of the new year, I listed my 2014 reading and blogging goals. I plan to post monthly updates on my goals as one of my Saturday Conversation posts near the end/beginning of each month. GoodReads Reading Challenge… 100 Books. In April 2014 I finished 11 books – note the first two titles were finished in March, but after I put up my March progress report: Book #22: The Kraken King Part I: The Kraken King and the Scribbling Spinster by Meljean Brook (March 31, 2014) Book #23: The Kraken King Part II: The Kraken King and the Abominable Worm by Meljean Brook (March 31, 2014) Book #24: The King by JR Ward (April 6, 2014) Book #25: Survive to Dawn by PJ Schnyder (April 10, 2014) Book #26: The Kraken King Part III: The Kraken King and the Fox’s Den by Meljean Brook (April 11, 2014) Book #27: The Kraken King Part IV: The Kraken King and the Inevitable Abduction by Meljean Brook (April 12, 2014) Book #28: Once Bitten, Twice Burned by Cynthia Eden (April 14, 2014) Book #29: Burning Dawn by Gena Showalter (April 18, 2014) Book #30: Dimitri’s Forbidden Submissive by Ann Mayburn (April 22, 2014) Book #31: The Kraken King Part V: The Kraken King and the Iron Heart by Meljean Brook (April 24, 2014) Book #32: My Wicked Masters by Ann Mayburn (April 26, 2014) Book #33: The Kraken King Part VI: The Kraken King and the Crumbling Walls by Meljean Brook (April 27, 2014) If I want to finish 100 books by the end of the year, I need to read on average 8.33 books per month. That puts the tally at 33.3 books through 4 months, and I’ve caught up! The primary reason – I read 7 novellas last month. It was all for review and super enjoyable – but the shorter length meant more books! Plus, I’ve been on a tear – really enjoying my books lately! Reading books off of my TRB pile instead of picking up new-to-me authors and series. Nothing from my TBR per se – but these books are ALL part of series that I currently read – so ones that I would have picked up anyways! No new authors this month! Featuring more GLBT authors and books...

Saturday Conversations: 2014 Goals March Update

Saturday Conversations: 2014 Goals March Update March 2014 summary Back at the beginning of the new year, I listed my 2014 reading and blogging goals. I plan to post monthly updates on my goals as one of my Saturday Conversation posts near the end/beginning of each month. GoodReads Reading Challenge… 100 Books. In March 2014 I finished 7 books: Book #15: The Innocent by Shiloh Walker (March 1, 2014) Book #16: Bladed Magic by JC Daniels (March 2, 2014) Book #17: Dawn’s Early Light by Pip Ballantine & Tee Morris (March 14, 2014) Book #18: At Star’s End by Anna Hackett (March 17, 2014) Book #19: Dangerous Angel by Stacy Gail (March 20, 2014) Book #20: Turned by Virna DePaul (March 26, 2014) Book #21: Immortal Hunter by Kait Ballanger (March 30, 2014) If I want to finish 100 books by the end of the year, I need to read on average 8.33 books per month. Currently I’m not making that mark – with a quarter of the way through the year, I should have read at least 25 books, I’ve only finished 21 books. But as I stated when I started, I won’t cram books in to make the goal. If I only read 90 books, so be it! Reading books off of my TRB pile instead of picking up new-to-me authors and series. I FAILED at this one during March. I didn’t read a single book from my TBR pile, and I did read two books from either new-to-me authors or new series. UGH! Featuring more GLBT authors and books on the blog. In March, we featured two reviews and two blog tours in the GLBT genre. Spending more time reading and less time tweaking the blog. Other than working on updating old blog posts as new books were reviewed in the series, I stayed away from any major changes. I’m still trying to figure out the best why to present a review rating, but that tweaking was minimal. Opening up Sunday Snippets to authors as a chance to spotlight his/her work. We kept up hosting outside authors with three Snippets from non-reviewed books. I am happy with that mark. I’m working pushing this option more with authors, and I think it’s working. Next month may be more difficult with the Easter Holiday. Continue Saturday Conversations Posts, but open them up. As I wrote in my post dated March 15, 2014, I’m dropping the weekly Saturday Conversations post for now. It’s just not...
