Listen Up! Alpha & Omega Series, part 2

Listen Up! Alpha & Omega Series, part 2 Welcome to my new weekly feature that focuses on audiobooks. It’s time to… Audiobook reviews: Alpha & Omega Series Books 2-3 A couple weeks ago, I posted my audiobook reviews of the first two Alpha & Omega books (prequel novella and book #1). With the upcoming release of the fourth book, Dead Heat, I’m sharing my reviews for the rest of the series. I hope you enjoy the series as much as I do! Note: This series can be read independently from the Mercy Thompson series, but the two series are somewhat intertwined. For more information on chronological reading order, please visit Hurog forum website. Due to the building nature of the series, each review may...

It’s time to… Audiobook review: The Will by Kristen Ashley Today Una shares with us her audiobook review of The Will by Kristen Ashley. This is Una’s first audiobook review for the blog. Please leave her a comment and let her know what you think! Author: Kristen Ashley Narrator: Hollis McCarthy Audio Speed: Series: Magdalene #1 Source: Audible Studios I admit it. I’m not a big contemporary romance fan. I have read a few in the past that I didn’t like and decided the whole genre wasn’t my thing. After listening to The Will, I have decided that I do like contemporary romances; I’m just...

Listen Up! Alpha & Omega Series, part 1

Listen Up! Alpha & Omega Series, part 1 Welcome to my new weekly feature that focuses on audiobooks. It’s time to… Audiobook reviews: Alpha & Omega Series Books 0.5-1 After picking up and blazing through the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs on audiobook, someone encouraged me to listen to the spinoff series, Alpha & Omega. I was more than a little frustrated with the Mercy series (possibly another Listen Up! post), and I was told by a number of people that they, in fact, enjoy Alpha & Omega more than Mercy. After finishing the first two stories, I can whole heartedly agree! Overall, the Alpha & Omega series has a balanced feel, sharing equal time between romance and action, as...

Listen Up! The Night Huntress series

Listen Up! The Night Huntress series Welcome to my new weekly feature that focuses on audiobooks. It’s time to… Audiobook reviews: The Night Huntress Series Books 1-3 One thing I love about audiobooks, is the opportunity to finally “read” some of those books that have been on my TRB list for a while now. One such series is The Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost. I’ve heard so many wonderful things about Cat and Bones, I’m glad to finally begin their journey. Author: Jeaniene Frost Narrator: Tavia Gilbert Audio Speed: 1x Series: Night Huntress 1, 2, 3 Halfway to the Grave, Book 1 Halfway to the Grave introduces readers to Cat Crawfield, a half-vampire, half-human anomaly. Listen Up! Audiobook Review: Murder of Crows

Listen Up! Audiobook Review: Murder of Crows Welcome to my new weekly feature that focuses on audiobooks. It’s time to… Getting used to a narrator Last week I shared by audiobook review of Written in Red, and I gave narrator Alexandra Harris a C+ for her performance. This week, I bring to you my review of the second book in The Others series, Murder of Crows, also narrated by Ms. Harris. This time around, I found I enjoyed her delivery more, and it even felt “natural” and “the right fit” during many moments. I’ve found in general that even if I don’t love the performance of a narrator the first time, their interpretation of the characters tends to grow...

Listen Up! Listening Speed + Review of Written in Red

Listen Up! Listening Speed + Review of Written in Red Welcome to my new weekly feature that focuses on audiobooks. It’s time to… Listening Speed When I first began my journey into and eventual love affair with audiobooks, I was a little put off by how slow that first book was for me. It felt like I was being read to, rather than feeling immersed in the story. Let’s face it, we all read faster than we speak. Additional, most people tend to skim, even subconsciously, some text, which is something you really can’t do when listening to an audiobook. It was then that I discovered that the Audible app, as well as Overdrive and other audio playback apps, allowed me to...

Jen’s Best of 2014

Jen’s Best of 2014 It’s that time of year again. The time we all look back over the past year and take a look at our favorite reads. This year is a bit different for me because I started listening to audiobooks. Audiobooks are a very different experience, but an equally valid method of enjoying the written word. I included each audiobook in my overall “books read” count, but since pretty much all of the books were off my TBR and/or “re-reads,” of some of my favorite titles, I’ve decided to keep a separate “best of” list for the audiobooks. As of today (December 23, 2014) I have completed 124 books, and I expect...

I #amlistening to Audiobooks!

I #amlistening to Audiobooks! For a couple of years now, my good friends Jennifer (The Book Nympho), Liza (Blogging by Liza), Felicia (The Geeky Blogger’s Book Blog), Marquetta (Love to Read for Fun), and others have been touting audiobooks. And my continual reply was “I don’t do audiobooks.” Let me tell you, it wasn’t for lack of trying! I attempted to listen to an audiobook a few times, but I never was able to really enjoy the book. I tried when exercising, doing housework, just relaxing on the couch, etc. And before you mention it, my commute was only 10 minutes for many years; just not long enough to listen in the car. Anyhow, I...
