Review: The Thief by J.R. Ward

Review: The Thief by J.R. Ward The Thief Author: J.R.Ward Reviewer: Una Rating: B What I’m Talking About: The Thief is the sixteenth novel in the Black Dagger Brotherhood (BDB) series.  Though some overarching plot lines are resolved and/or made more convoluted, it was as gripping and intriguing as I’ve come to expect.   Suffice to say, The Thief resolves the romantic plot lines between Assail (drug/arms dealing vampire) and Marisol (aka Sola the human thief).  However the new threat that Throe presents is only intensified in this novel as we learn more about his plot as well as the origin of power.  As always with this series, there are multiple plot lines running through...

When she finally got her pulse back in the vicinity of normal, she opened her eyes, scanning the lot for a trash can. She didn’t want her mostly empty cup to drip in Seth’s car. She spotted one near the building and pushed off the hood to walk away. “I’m going to—” The rest of...

Review: A Nantucket Wedding by Nancy Thayer

Review: A Nantucket Wedding by Nancy Thayer A Nantucket Wedding Author: Nancy Thayer Reviewer: Nima Rating: B- What I’m Talking About: A Nantucket Wedding is a story about the family drama that always surrounds large family events like a wedding.  The wedding serves to focus a spotlight on the relationships of key characters. You’d think a book about a wedding would be a romance.  It is romantic, but not a romance.  Everyone in this story is already in an established relationship, some of them rocky. What this book is, is women’s fiction.  I keep trying it and I continue to be disappointed.  This one is better than some I’ve read, there isn’t as much whining and over-thinking...

Sunday Snippet: Blood Veil by Megan Erickson

Sunday Snippet: Blood Veil by Megan Erickson  About the Book Blood Veil    Author:  Megan Erickson Publisher:   Ballantine/Loveswept Released:  April 3, 2018 Series:   Mission #2 Genre:  Paranormal Romance Snippet: Celia I wanted this. Even now, with both of us wounded and scared, my body reacted to the proximity of his. Those unusual yet kind eyes didn’t flinch from mine. No matter the shape he was in, and what was to come, he was going to do this for me. Well, I guessed it was a little for both of us. Maybe this was why I’d avoided human touch my whole life. My body wanted a vampire. My heart wanted Idris. I hadn’t ever dreamed of my first...

Review: Dearest Ivie by J.R. Ward

Review: Dearest Ivie by J.R. Ward Dearest Ivie Author: J.R. Ward Reviewer: Una Rating: A-/B+ What I’m Talking About: Dearest Ivie is a novella in the world of Black Dagger Brotherhood (BDB).  I enjoyed this short story of romance that alludes to a previous novel but instead of following the heartbreaking ending, this one is happy and hopeful. I really enjoyed Ivie’s character.  She is a nurse working in Haver’s clinic.  Though a commoner and more mainstream “American” than members of the aristocracy, I liked her strength of self.  She is unapologetically Ivie, daughter of a biker and a forthright and intelligence female.  Though we encounter a few of the mainstream BDB characters, the story...

Sunday Snippet: Blood Fury by J.R. Ward

Sunday Snippet: Blood Fury by J.R. Ward  About the Book Blood Fury    Author:  JR Ward Publisher:   Ballantine Books Released:  January 9, 2018 Series:   Black Dagger Legacy #3 Genre:  Paranormal Romance Author contact links:   Website Purchase links:  Amazon REVIEW Snippet: As her surgeon headed for the door, Novo admitted to herself that he was right.  It was way too ambitious on her part to think she’d be able to fight in two days.  The pain in her chest was incredible, the kind of thing she felt up in her molars and down to her toenails, even with all the drugs she was on.  There was no way that was backing off by next nightfall. She looked at...

Review: Blood Fury by J.R. Ward

Review: Blood Fury by J.R. Ward Blood Fury Author: J.R. Ward Reviewer: Una Rating: A What I’m Talking About: The latest offering in the Black Dagger Legacy series, Blood Fury is, suffice to say, awesome.  The twin love stories combined with the on-going background original story lines is gripping, especially as the romantic journey of the couples is the stronger focal point. Originally the Black Dagger Brotherhood was one of my most favorite dark urban fantasy romance series.  However, as the series has progressed, the romance portion/drive has diminished.  Thankfully J.R. Ward has given us the Black Dagger Legacy series that truly is a spin-off that is back to the “old school.”  This series works...

Review: The Dream Keeper’s Daughter by Emily Colin

Review: The Dream Keeper’s Daughter by Emily Colin The Dream Keeper’s Daughter Author: Emily Colin Reviewer: Ang Rating: B What I’m Talking About: The Dream Keepers Daughter was an interesting and multi-dimensional read. The concepts of time travel and how the deep connection to those we love transcend place, time and logic were covered in unexpected and interesting ways. The characters were well developed and interesting right from the start, and the back and forth narration between Max and Isabel gave insights that could not have been explored if narrated another way. I also felt the way Ms. Colin explored the topic of grief and moving on was believable and distinct to the different characters and their...

At thirty-six Alec had been running the company for years, increasing the value and earnings of the family’s dying business well beyond expectations. Despite the public-relations potential of that sort of press, he refused to be interviewed or photographed. That only drove more interest in his direction. But there was another side to the success. People talked about his history in hushed whispers. There were rumors of how he killed the...
