2014 READ PINK Blog Tour Read Pink® in Honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Support the Next Chapter in Innovative Research Penguin Random House Marks Five-Year Partnership Milestone and $125,000  in Donations to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation® What’s black and white and pink all over?  The initiative by Penguin Random House called Read Pink® in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October)! Today the scientific community has left behind the “one-size-fits-all” breast cancer treatment to emerge with targeted, more effective therapies. As a result, after remaining stagnant for more than 50 years, the death rate from breast cancer has decreased by 30 percent. The Read Pink® initiative by Penguin Random House is...

Saturday Conversations: Books & Movies

Saturday Conversations: Books & Movies   Books vs. Movies… Earlier this week, when I was at the doctor’s office, I was making small talk and mentioned I review books. This got the technician talking about how she loved the Harry Potter series, Twilight series, and The Host by Stephenie Meyer. She specifically mentioned those books because of their corresponding movies. These days, it seems society measures the success of a book and/or series by whether or not it becomes a movie. Some books are known equally for their written word as their visual production. Take for example, the Hunger Games trilogy. The kids in my neighborhood play “hunger games” in the yard (shooting pretend arrows),...

Saturday Conversations 01/12/13

Saturday Conversations 01/12/13 Blog Hopping Today I wanted to chat about reading blogs and blog hopping. I have been reading various author and review blogs for four years now.  In the beginning, I added new blogs to my feed-reader almost every week. But over the past year, my blog hopping and finding new-to-me blogs has all but diminished. I check my feed-reader 1-2 times per week, and I do a lot of skimming. One thing I’ve noticed lately is a mismatch between the blogs I follow and the type of books that I like to read. What has happened is I now follow a lot of blogs that don’t review books in...

Saturday Conversations 10/13/2012

Saturday Conversations 10/13/2012 E-reader vs. Book In today’s day and age, books are available to readers 24 hours a day.  A reader has access to thousands of books on your phone, you can pre-order favorites online and have them delivered, and you can visit your local library or book store. I for one love this! What I also love is the rise of the ebook. Thanks to the giants like Kindle and Nook, e-readers are a common gadget in our electronic arsenal. I myself have been reading via a Kindle (or the Kindle app) since late 2008. The first appeal was that I could get a book whenever I wanted. I was...

Author Interview & Giveaway: Bec McMaster Today I have the honor of bringing to you author Bec McMaster. Bec lives in a small country town in Victoria, Australia, with her boyfriend, two budgies with a thirst for flesh, and a beautiful dog named Kobe. She grew up either with her nose in a book or writing, and she never understood why other people didn’t get to watch ‘all the movies in their heads.’ Following a lifelong love affair with fantasy, she discovered romance at the age of sixteen and hasn’t looked back. When she’s not writing she likes to read, go hiking with her boyfriend, pour over travel brochures, and go to the gym. She’s...
