Review: Dearest Ivie by J.R. Ward

Review: Dearest Ivie by J.R. Ward Dearest Ivie Author: J.R. Ward Reviewer: Una Rating: A-/B+ What I’m Talking About: Dearest Ivie is a novella in the world of Black Dagger Brotherhood (BDB).  I enjoyed this short story of romance that alludes to a previous novel but instead of following the heartbreaking ending, this one is happy and hopeful. I really enjoyed Ivie’s character.  She is a nurse working in Haver’s clinic.  Though a commoner and more mainstream “American” than members of the aristocracy, I liked her strength of self.  She is unapologetically Ivie, daughter of a biker and a forthright and intelligence female.  Though we encounter a few of the mainstream BDB characters, the story...

Sunday Snippet: Blood Fury by J.R. Ward

Sunday Snippet: Blood Fury by J.R. Ward  About the Book Blood Fury    Author:  JR Ward Publisher:   Ballantine Books Released:  January 9, 2018 Series:   Black Dagger Legacy #3 Genre:  Paranormal Romance Author contact links:   Website Purchase links:  Amazon REVIEW Snippet: As her surgeon headed for the door, Novo admitted to herself that he was right.  It was way too ambitious on her part to think she’d be able to fight in two days.  The pain in her chest was incredible, the kind of thing she felt up in her molars and down to her toenails, even with all the drugs she was on.  There was no way that was backing off by next nightfall. She looked at...

Review: Blood Fury by J.R. Ward

Review: Blood Fury by J.R. Ward Blood Fury Author: J.R. Ward Reviewer: Una Rating: A What I’m Talking About: The latest offering in the Black Dagger Legacy series, Blood Fury is, suffice to say, awesome.  The twin love stories combined with the on-going background original story lines is gripping, especially as the romantic journey of the couples is the stronger focal point. Originally the Black Dagger Brotherhood was one of my most favorite dark urban fantasy romance series.  However, as the series has progressed, the romance portion/drive has diminished.  Thankfully J.R. Ward has given us the Black Dagger Legacy series that truly is a spin-off that is back to the “old school.”  This series works...

Sunday Snippet: The Chosen by J. R. Ward

Sunday Snippet: The Chosen by J. R. Ward  About the Book The Chosen    Author:  J. R. Ward Publisher:   Ballantine Books Released:  April 4, 2017 Series:   Black Dagger Brotherhood #15 Genre:  Paranormal Romance Author contact links:   Facebook, Website Purchase links:  Amazon REVIEW Snippet: As she opened things up, Blay and Qhuinn weren’t even looking in her direction.  They were bent over Lyric’s bassinet. “–Layla’s eyes,” Blay said as he reached in and let the young grab onto his finger.  “Definitely.” “She has her mahmen’s hair, too.  I mean, check out the blond coming in.” Their love for the little one was incandescent, singing in their faces, warming their voices, tempering their movements so that everything they did was with care.  And...

Review: The Chosen by J.R. Ward

Review: The Chosen by J.R. Ward The Chosen Author: J.R. Ward Reviewer: Una Rating: B What I’m Talking About: The Chosen is a novel that I have both wanted and dreaded.  This fifteenth book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series was to be a make or break book for me.  Suffice to say, the WARDen found and worked that special magic.  Though there are some highs and lows, overall I liked it – my crack is back! ****Needless to say, this is the 15th book in the series…if you haven’t read the series, there will be spoilers.  If you haven’t read through The Beast, there will be spoilers.  There are a few elements to the...

Review: Blood Vow by J.R. Ward

Review: Blood Vow by J.R. Ward Blood Vow Author: J.R. Ward Reviewer: Una Rating: A- What I’m Talking About: The Warden has truly brought us back to essence of what made her Black Dagger Brotherhood (BDB) series so addictive at its inception.  Blood Vow is an emotionally charged, grittily gripping, and darkly sensual read. ****Please note that this review may contain spoilers from the previous Black Dagger Legacy (BDL) book as well as from previous BDB novels.**** I fully admit that I am a BDB addict.  Though I was very disappointed in a previous BDB novel that I will not name, I decided to continue the series.  On a whim, I volunteered to read the...

Review: The Beast by JR Ward

Review: The Beast by JR Ward The Beast Author: JR Ward Reviewer: Jen Twimom Rating: C+ What I’m Talking About: Hello. My name is Jen. I am a recovering BDB addict… Yes, I was one of the many who felt betrayed by JR Ward when she wrote and released the previous Black Dagger Brotherhood book, The Shadows. I wanted to read The Beast because 1) I love Rhage and Mary, and 2) I wanted to see if I was finally over my obsession with all things BDB. In the end, I’m glad I read The Beast, and I probably would have enjoyed it more had The Shadows never happened. Generally, The Beast is a fun...

Review: Blood Kiss by J.R. Ward

Review: Blood Kiss by J.R. Ward Blood Kiss Author: J.R. Ward Reviewer: Una Rating: B What I’m Talking About: Blood Kiss is the debut novel in Ms. Ward’s spin-off series, Black Dagger Legacy.  For fans of the series, it is a fascinating look at how the Black Dagger Brotherhood will increase the number of soldiers along with checking in on previous couples.  Those new to the world may enjoy it, but won’t have the full appreciate as followers will. I enjoyed the continuing story of Marissa and Butch: that the happily-ever-after (HEA) continues but not without work and choice.  The fact that Butch tries to shield Marissa, even though her work brings her face to...

Review: The Shadows by JR Ward

Review: The Shadows by JR Ward The Shadows Author: JR Ward Reviewer: Jen Twimom What I’m Talking About: I freely admit that I am a JR Ward – Black Dagger Brotherhood junkie. I will devour a book, pick it apart, complain about what did or did not happen, and still go back for more the following year. I preordered The Shadows the day it was available. I cannot stop myself. With that said, this book may be the one that breaks me. I don’t know if I can keep coming back… I guess I’ll find out next year. Please note, this review is written in mind of those who are familiar with the series and...

Review: The King by JR Ward

Review: The King by JR Ward The King Author: JR Ward Reviewer: Jen Twimom Rating: A- What I’m Talking About: JR Ward’s twelfth endeavor in her extremely popular Black Dagger Brotherhood, The King, is the ambitious tale covering the lives of several key characters: most notably Vampire King Wrath and his lovely Queen, Beth. The pair was the focus of the first book, Dark Lover, and they have played central rolls in a number of the subsequent stories. However, this time around we get up close with Wrath and Beth as they deal with the pressures placed on the monarchy, Beth’s desire to have a child, the snobby glymera, and rival vampire, Xcor along with...
