Welcome to Day #2 of WE LOVE GENA WEEK brought to you by Bells over at Hanging With Bells and me. We are celebrating our love for Gena Showalter’s Lords of the Underworld series. The newest book, The Darkest Passion, will be released on Tuesday May 25, 2010.

Today I’m going to give you the 411 on the LORDS…

First I’ll give you a quick primer on the world of the LORDS…
The books are loosely based in Greek mythology and the story of Pandora’s Box. Long ago, some of the most evil demons escaped the underworld. These demons were trapped in a special box. One of the Greek gods’ trusted warriors, Pandora, was asked to guard the box. All of the other immortal warriors were jealous that Pandora was selected for this great honor. They ganged up and opened the box-killing Pandora in the process. Well, these evil demons could not be left to roam the earth, so the gods forced the demons into new prisons – the bodies of the very warriors that freed them. Now each warrior lives daily with a specific demon, tormented by the desires for evil within them. (Example: Reyes – Keeper of Pain – must continual cut and hurt himself to satisfy his inner demon.) Those demons are a part of the very fabric that makes up each warrior, and if the demons are put back into Pandora’s box, the warriors will die.

Of course, like any great series, we have “the bad guys.” In this series they are humans called “The Hunters.” They (falsely) believe that the Lords are at fault for all of the evil in the world. The Hunters’ mission is to kill every last Lord. And we quickly find out that they are getting help from someone/thing that is NOT human. Also toss in that the original titans (lead by Cronus) have overthrown the Greek gods and the heavenly world is in chaos.

Meet the Warriors:

Maddox – Keeper of Violence
Lucien – Keeper of Death
Reyes – Keeper of Pain
Sabin – Keeper of Doubt
Aeron – Keeper of Wrath
Gideon – Keeper of Lies
Amun – Keeper of Secrets
Strider – Keeper of Defeat
Paris – Keeper of Promiscuity
Torin – Keeper of Disease
Cameo – Keeper of Misery (and the only female Lord)
Kane – Keeper of Disaster
Baden – Keeper of Distrust (deceased)
Honorable Mention:
William – Immortal friend of Anya (Lucien’s mate we meet in Book #2)

Book Order:

For more great behind the scenes information about the series, I suggest picking up The Darkest Facts: A Lords of the Underworld Companion. However – be warned that there are spoilers if you haven’t read the first few books!
So now it’s time to talk about today’s giveaway! Gena has generously donated a signed copy of one of her books for each day of the celebration!!! Today’s giveaway is for the 2nd book in the Lords of the Underworld series THE DARKEST KISS!

Here is what this great book is all about:

She has tempted many men… but never found her equal.

Until now.

Though she has lived for centuries, Anya, goddess of anarchy, has never known pleasure. Until Lucien, the incarnation of death—a warrior eternally doomed to take souls to the hereafter. He draws her like no other. And Anya will risk anything to have him.

But when the merciless Lord of the Underworld is ordered by the gods to claim Anya herself, their uncontrollable attraction becomes an anguished pursuit. Now they must defeat the unconquerable forces that control them, before their thirst for one another demands a sacrifice of love beyond imagining.…

  1. Which one? Is that a joke? *Snorts.* Before I read an ARC of The Darkest Passion, it would have been The Darkest Night but TDP rocks my world even more so.

Are you sure we can’t persuade you to tell us your favourite today? 😉

    TY for the Gena week!

  2. This whole week of Gena events week is so much fun! 🙂

I haven’t read anything by Gena YET, but after all the praise I’ve read about her wtiting and her amazing books, she was added to my wishlist.

Based on the titles and characters name I would go with Darkest Lie (love to have a heroine named Scarlet), but Darkest Whisper and Darkest Surrender come close 🙂

I’m a follower and will definitely check back tomorrow! 😉

    Thank you,

  3. I’ve been following Gena ever since I found out about the Lords series. I’m a huge Greek mythology sap and Gena’s rendition is fan-freakin-tastic!!

Okay, enough about the lovely woman herself, let’s get to her books! I really can’t seem to tear myself away from Reyes so The Darkest Pleasure is my favorite book of the series thus far. I’ve read it several times and my love for Reyes just continues to increase.

  4. The Darkest Kiss has been my favorite so far. Anya is so wacky and over the top. I love her.

  5. I’ve been sitting here trying to come up with a favorite. I just can’t do it. I fell for Geryon and his quiet lonely strength, then Maddox, then Lucian, and so on and so forth. Each book is my favorite while I’m reading it and until I read the next or re-read another. The last I read was The Darkest Angel so until I start over to prepare for reading TDP, I guess I’ll have to say Lysander.

  6. So far I have only read the 1st one, I would love to read this one! Thanks for the chance to win! After I have read them all I am sure I will have a favorite! 😉

  7. Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee *takes breath again* Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  8. Una

Well, I have always had my eye on Aeron…I don’t know what it is but I just feel drawn to him. Can’t wait to read his book!

But I will say, each book I read, I adore each lord…

  9. Wow that gonna be hard to pick but i think mine is darkest whisper. i thought the two characters was much more interesting the the previous ones.

  10. I really need to start this series. And when I get the chance, I will have to start with the first. But The Darkest Kiss peaks my interest the most. The incarnation of Death always makes a good character.

  11. I was lucky enough to meet Gena when she did a book signing in Lebanon, TN a few weeks ago. She came to TN just in time for the floods. I also was lucky enough to get all of my LOTU books signed. My favorite book is The Darkest Kiss. I love Lucien and Anya.

  12. I Have Not Read Gena’s Lords Of The Underworld Series As Of Yet. But When Reading Series Books I Love To Start At The Very Beginning So That Would Be The Darkest Fire.

I Am Following This Blog And Hanging With Bells (skyla11377).

  13. I haven’t read any of Gena’s books so I would have to start with the first one! And knowing how I work I would then be addicted and have to read all of them:)

  14. I haven’t started this series yet, but based on the excerpt, I would pick Sabin from The Darkest Whisper.
