About the book:
Thomas Hammer, a pit bull shifter, is bound by magic in his canine form and needs to find a way to break free. He wants to show his owner, Desiree Duvall, the man of her dreams sleeps at her feet every night–she just doesn’t know it.
Hammer battles members of his old pack out for revenge and tries to protect Desiree from harm. He also discovers a secret organization of shifters who protect the outside world from discovering their existence.
Hammer breaks the spell, but still has to win the girl and save the day. Or he can sit, roll over, and stay. His destiny takes an unexpected turn and Thomas decides it’s time for Get’n Hammered.
What VampBard’s talking about:
I love me some shifter stories! Get’n Hammered DEFINITELY holds a double meaning. Ms. Holloway provides the reader with some smokin’ HAWT, raw sex while delivering a sweet story. I did think the plot arc was a bit predictable, with too many characters begging for more extensive development; I’m hoping she will create stories to showcase several of the more interesting shifters.
I thought that Ms. Holloway’s delivery of her mythology was tasteful and not overly-pushy.
Shifter legend said, when a shifter meets their true mate, their heart sings and the love that enthralls them becomes immediate and undeniable. A spell taught to the to the first of their kind and born unto all of their offspring would find its way out of their heart and make its way out of their lips. If both agree their love is mutual, the binding spell will bind not only their hearts, but their souls.
She uses her characters to show – not tell – about themselves, and further develop her lore. Thomas Hammer, taking the rap for a crime he didn’t commit, was magically bound to his canine form…until the spell was broken in a murder attempt. Yay for Thomas! Spending two years in his athletic pit bull form with an awesome owner who rescued him from an animal shelter, Thomas fell for Desiree. While Thomas did wish he weren’t bound to his shifter form, he didn’t regret protecting someone he loved.
Oh how Hammer desired a way to break the spell binding him to his animal form. A shape shifter who couldn’t change; sometimes it nearly drove him mad… until he remembered why he’d been bound by magic…
One thing that kind-of bothered me about Get’n Hammered was the fact that we got a LOT of details about Hammer watching Desiree masturbate while in his animal form. I know that technically he’s a shifter, thus part man, but I simply wasn’t comfortable with the play-by-play from Hammer’s perspective.
I really liked the non-sexual plot arc. This is a great premise. I actually hadn’t figured out part of the conflict before arriving at the plot point.
Desiree was a self-confident, independent woman comfortable in her sexuality. As the owner of her own construction company, she had a direct, and purposefully (slightly) abrasive demeanor on-the-job. However, she demonstrated that she also likes the pretty, feminine, and sexy things, too. I kinda want her heeled high-top Converse.
While Get’n Hammered was a quick-read as I peddled the recumbent bike at the gym, I thought Ms. Holloway had material to create a full-length novel and not merely a novella. I look forward to seeing more from this author.
