Black Friday Shopping

Happy Thanksgiving Weekend! I know not all of my readers celebrated the holiday this past Thursday, but a majority of you did. I hope it was a lovely day and weekend. We went over to my in-laws, who live about 15 miles away. It was a wonderful day full of good times and awesome food! I tried a new green bean casserole dish thanks to Trader Joe’s. It was pretty tasty, having Swiss cheese and real mushrooms. That’s about all I make.

As most of you know, the day after Thanksgiving is called “Black Friday.” It’s THE shopping day for those seeking great deals, or who are a bit crazy. According to Wikipedia, the term Black Friday originated in Philadelphia in 1961.

The day’s name originated in Philadelphia, where it originally was used to describe the heavy and disruptive pedestrian and vehicle traffic which would occur on the day after Thanksgiving. Use of the term started before 1961 and began to see broader use outside Philadelphia around 1975. Later an alternative explanation began to be offered: that “Black Friday” indicates the point at which retailers begin to turn a profit, or are “in the black.”

Personally, I am not a Black Friday shopper. I cannot stand shopping to begin with, and crowded spaces are not my friend. What about you? Do you face the masses and shop on Black Friday? Did you go out Thursday night or wait until Friday? What deals were you looking for and what did you find? Please share your BLACK FRIDAY tales with us!

  1. No to going out shopping Thursday night or Friday. I tried Black Friday a couple of times in the past and disliked the experience both times. Impatient people hyped up on extra caffeine from standing in cold lines desperate to the get the latest, greatest toy or electronic. Not for me,

  2. I stayed my happy butt at home. I hate shopping and having that many people around in one area? Eff that! Nope, I prefer the luxury of staying in my bed and watching TV. Lots of Clooney movies on for some reason although I’m not complaining.
