Today I’m here to share my love for the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews (the writing team of Ilona & Gordon Andrews). In addition, I’ve got LOTS of Kate books to giveaway! The prizes are listed below, so keep reading.
The Kate Daniel series takes place on an alternate Earth where there has been a “magic apocalypse,” and now magic battles technology for dominance. Magic comes in “waves,” and during those times, technology doesn’t work too well. This has caused the destruction of much of the modern world; things like skyscrapers have crumbled, cars and phones are not reliable, and mechanized weapons quit working while magic is up.
The series features a sword wielding, kick-ass heroine named Kate Daniels. As a human among shifters, witches, necromancers and other paranormals, she can fight with the best of them. She seems to attract trouble where ever she goes. Currently, Kate is mated with the king of the shifters, Curran, and she runs a detective agency to help solve those “interesting” crimes no one else will tackle. Her best friend, Andrea, has her own book and plays a critical role in the overall storylines.
Currently there are six published full-length titles, three novellas, a short short and a handful of snippets rewritten from Curran’s POV in the Kate Daniels series, with the seventh book due out July 30, 2013. Note: Gunmetal Magic, the sixth book, is from Andrea’s POV and not considered a “Kate Daniels” book, per se. However, it is critical to the series and reading order, so I lump the all together!
Reading order (click title for review or more info):
Questionable Client (free for a limited time, short story, prequel to the series)
Magic Mourns (Raphael and Andrea novella)
Magic Dreams (Jim and Dali novella)
Magic Gifts (novella)
GUNMETAL MAGIC – Andrea’s book
MAGIC RISES – release date July 30, 2013
(Ace, July 30, 2013)
Atlanta is a city plagued by magical problems. Kate Daniels will fight to solve them—no matter the cost.
Mercenary Kate Daniels and her mate, Curran, the Beast Lord, are struggling to solve a heartbreaking crisis. Unable to control their beasts, many of the Pack’s shapeshifting children fail to survive to adulthood. While there is a medicine that can help, the secret to its making is closely guarded by the European packs, and there’s little available in Atlanta.
Kate can’t bear to watch innocents suffer, but the solution she and Curran have found threatens to be even more painful. The European shapeshifters who once outmaneuvered the Beast Lord have asked him to arbitrate a dispute—and they’ll pay him in medicine. With the young people’s survival and the Pack’s future at stake, Kate and Curran know they must accept the offer—but they have little doubt that they’re heading straight into a trap…

Um, Kate Daniels is the most kick-butt heroine I can think of!
Kate Daniels is by far a fantastic kick-butt heroine. I was so glad to get introduced to this series.
Away from Kate I’ll have to say Dee Ann Smith from Shelly Laurenston pride series…I love thus giveaway..
Thanks Jen
Ohh hmmm, I’d say Cat (Jeaniene Frost, Night Huntress series) or Kate.
Kate Daniels, Mercy Thompson, Anita Blake, Dee Ann Smtih, Cat are just a few of my favorites! Thanks for the contest.
Kate is awesome. But I also like Mac from the fever series by Karen Marie moning
Eek. So many to choose from! Kate Daniels, Anita Blake, Mercy Thompson are the tops
I love a lot of kick-butt heroines, but my favorite will always be Buffy.
Wow, so many to choose from, Kate is awesome, but Anita Blake is the top of the heap for me. Also lo.ve Rachel Morgan, Mercy Thompson, Sabina Kane, Harper Blaine, just to name a few. Honestly, it’s like asking me to choose my favorite child. I love them all!!!
Buffy pretty much kills the competition, but I’m also a fan of Kate Daniels, Mercy Thompson, Anita Blake, Rachel Morgan, Cat, and a few others, too. But my current favorite is Detective Inspector Mina Wentworth (Meljean Smith’s Iron Seas series). She totally rocks!
Anita Blake kicks a lot of butt, but I can’t say she’s really much of my favorite anymore. So, I’ll have to go with Jessica McClain from Amanda Carlson’s Full Blooded Series. She’s pretty awesome
What a fantastic giveaway! My choice would be Mrs. Emma Peel from the old TV show, The Avengers.
Kate and Maxine Kiss are my favorite kick a** heroines. I love both of the series. I’m so happy to read about strong woman who can stand up to anything.
I’m only on the 2nd Kate book and I am enjoying her kick-butt attitude. I also love Rachel Morgan and Mercy Thompson.
I’m partial tp Kate Daniels and Mercy Thompson.
My favorite kick butt heroine is Gin Blanco from Jennifer Estep’s Elemental Assassin series. Honorable mention goes to Faith Hunter’s Jane Yellowrock. 😀
Not entering as I own all the books, but I wanted to give you a shout out for introducing me to this wonderful series. 😀
Hm… After Kate, I would say Julie because of the fact that she will grow up to be a second Kate Daniels! I love her sense of humour and the fact she isnt really scared of anyone. Fav bit was when she kicked Ascaino. Now that i loved xD
Oops. I messed up my Facebook entry. I am a new follower but I filled out the box for the old follower. I only filled out one of the boxes, so I guess it evens out.
In addition to the obvious answer (Kate) I have to add Faith Hunter’s Jane Yellowrock and Seanan McGuire’s Toby Daye.
I am very behind because I have not read this series and obviously need to! A couple of my favorites are Mercedes Thompson, Cat and Eve Dallas.
I love this series! Kate and Curran banter so well together, and the rest of the cast of characters are wonderful done. But my favorite kick butt heroine will probably always be Elena from Kelley Armstrong’s Otherworld series.
Mercy Thompson is the first one that comes to mind. Sarah Pazzini (Bearer of the Witchblade) is another.
I enjoy Eve Dallas because she and Kate seem to have a lot in common
I’m going to go in a different direction and say the Bride (Uma Thurman) from Kill Bill. The scene against the Crazy 88 is one of the best action scenes ever!
Gin Blanco, The Spider
