Festive Frostbite

Melting_Ms_Frost-1UK based author Kat Black is here today to conduct (although ‘referee’ might be a more accurate description) a Christmas Q&A session with the lead characters from her newly released contemporary romance, Melting Ms Frost.

For those not acquainted with the story, here’s a bit of background blurb:

Independent and career focused, London restaurant manager Annabel Frost lives her life by two simple rules: Don’t let your heart rule your head, and Trust no-one. Keeping everyone at arms length not only ensures an uncomplicated life, it also makes it easy to spot any trouble coming her way.

And in the busy run-up to Christmas, trouble does come – in the form of her new barman, the darkly handsome Aidan Flynn, whose blood runs as hot as Annabel’s does cold. Fascinated by his manager’s flame haired beauty which appears so at odds with a personality frosty enough to do justice to her name, Aidan makes it clear from the start that he wants her – all of her – on his terms.

With the heat of his passion sparking more than her temper, and threatening to set the wintry festive season ablaze, Annabel knows he is everything she’s vowed to avoid. But with his compelling grey gaze and persuasive Irish lilt, Aidan proves himself a force to be reckoned with.

And now, over to Kat.

Kat: Jen, I’d like to start by thanking you for hosting us here today as part of the Mistletoe Madness Event. Annabel and Aidan, my thanks to you as well for taking the time out to talk to us, I realize it’s an especially busy time of year. Like so many people in the hospitality industry, you’ll both be working non-stop throughout the festive season, but can you tell us what your idea of the perfect Christmas day would be?

Aidan, after a short silence: Annabel, would you like to go first?

Annabel: The perfect Christmas Day? That would involve a fully booked restaurant, seamless service and nothing but clean plates going back into the kitchen for washing…what? Why are you raising your eyebrow at me like that?

Aidan: Seriously? That’s what you’re putting forward as your perfect Christmas Day? What about friends and family? Taking time off to spend with them? Having some fun?

Annabel, glancing impatiently at her watch: Next question.

Kat: Actually, Aidan hasn’t given his own answer to this one yet.

Annabel, with some asperity. Well maybe he should spend less time trying to hijack mine, then!

Aidan, after flashing a grin that he’s lucky not to have slapped off his face. I’m part of a large family from the south coast of Ireland and although London has been my base for some time, unexpected circumstances have meant that for the past few years my Christmases have been spent back at home, surrounded by easy warmth and rowdy chaos and the bracing effect of the sea air. That’s felt pretty close to perfection to me.

Kat: And how do you like to kick off the big day? Presents around the tree? Stockings by the fire?

Aidan, giving Annabel a loaded sideways look: Oh, no question – I’m a stocking man all the way. As Annabel already has cause to know.
Annabel, shifting with obvious discomfort, a flush creeping into her cheeks: I don’t see any point in continuing this…

Kat: Just a few more questions. Flopping out in front of a Christmas Day film has become something of a post lunch institution. What would be your pick between It’s A Wonderful Life and Elf?

Annabel: Elf.

Aidan, both brows raised: Really?

Annabel: Yes, really. Why not? What’s the problem with that?

Aidan: No problem. That’s my choice too. I had you down as more of a fan of The Grinch, though.

Annabel, with eyes closed and a sharp sigh: Are we finished now?

Kat: Nearly done. If you could choose any person in the world, who would you most like to kiss under the mistletoe this year?

Aidan, smiling expression suddenly sharpening into intense focus: Annabel Frost.

Annabel, refusing to look at him as she makes to leave: The Grinch! And with that I’m calling time on this nonsense. I need to get back to work. Interview over.

Kat: Well, that seems to be that, then. Thanks so much for reading and Season’s Greetings to you all. If you’d like to get to know a bit more about Annabel and Aidan, you know where to find them!

Melting Ms Frost is available now in ebook and from January 30, 2014 in paperback.

Ha! These two sound like a lot of fun. I love the teasing. A Christmas Story is my favorite, too (the Leg Lamp!!). Thank you for the great post!

  2. UnaReads

I love A Christmas Story and It’s a Wonderful Life. In fact, we run A Christmas Story continuously while we decorate the house and tree. The banter between these two is GREAT, I’m adding it to my TBR list. Thank you!

  3. I think I may the only person who isn’t a huge fan of A Christmas Story. My favorites include The Grinch (animated original), It’s A Wonderful Life, The Polar Express, and does Sound of Music count?

    • Kat Black

Jen, The Polar Express is a wonderful choice! And when does The Sound of Music NOT count for anything? Thanks for having me here.

I’m going for a non-traditional one: The Holiday. Jude Law. That says it all. Lovely giveaway! I’ve been dying to read Melting Ms Frost. Fingers crossed! Happy reading everyone and good luck xx M.

Thank you, Jackie! And that’s two votes now for The Holiday. I’m going to have to get watching Mr Law, I think!
