Weekly Check-in August 15, 2014

Greetings my blogging and walking friends! It is time for your weekly check-in!

I am taking over hosting the weekly #bookblogwalkers check-ins in August for Felicia. She has been such an inspiration for me on my journey, and I am happy to help out and give back. For those who don’t know me, I am Jen Twimom aka @twimom227 on Twitter, and this is my book blog. You can read about my fitness journey on my #bookblogwalkers page. I post a weekly update every Monday, so please feel free to stop by there as well.

How are you doing this week? Did you make any new goals for yourself? Did you get in one day, two days, three days of walking (or other exercise)? Even getting up and moving for 10 minutes will make a difference! I am proud of each of you for making the decision to be a healthier you! Let me know how I can help!

My goal for August is to “move with purpose” for 30 minutes at least 5 days per week, with no more than 1 day off per week. These days my primary “movement” (aka exercise) is walking.

Once again, I made my goal for the week, taking a day off on Wednesday because of the torrential rain all day. But I’ll tell you, I was itchy to go outside all day Wednesday and felt “off” without the outdoor exercise. No walking makes for a grumpy Jen.

Felicia is still hosting her monthly giveaway, so don’t forget to add your name to the linky below to throw your name in the hat! For more information and to sign up for August, please visit Felicia’s site. Also, be sure to leave a comment here with your progress so that we can all cheer you on!

In addition, I am also giving away a $10 [US] Gift Card (Amazon or Barnes & Noble) during the month of August! In order to enter this giveaway, please fill out the Rafflecopter form, below. a Rafflecopter giveaway

If you have problems with the Rafflecopter form, please email me at twimom227 (at) gmail (dot) com.

See you all back here next week! Until then… keep on moving!

I always feel off if I don’t get a walk in. Having 2 dogs, I always get in at least 2 short walks twice a day (which I don’t count as my exercise) but when I have to make even though walks short due to weather or work, I definitely feel it. Isn’t that crazy???

Hope you have a great weekend!!!

    • I know what you mean… my “exercise” has to be something that isn’t part of my otherwise daily routine. So if my plans for the day include going on a walking tour of a museum, even if I’m walking the whole time, I don’t count it. Then, if I only walk 10 minutes later… that’s what I count!

      Great work!

  2. I totally dropped the ball on this challenge after my wedding. I was SO good leading up to it, that I’ve been doing nothing but overindulging ever since. FAIL! The crappy cold weather isn’t helping either. It’s only mid-August; where did the sun go? 🙁 Congrats on hitting your goal—keep up the good work!

    • Well first: CONGRATS! I didn’t realize that you recently wed. Woot! I agree on the weather – it feels like early October not August. It’s a bummer, but oh well. I hope you find some extra motivation this week to get out an move a little bit. Will your husband go with you?

Had a great day yesterday with over 15,000 steps. However, that was to make up for the previous day of few steps. Overall, I’m averaging 9,600 steps per day, so I’ll call it a win. Have a great weekend.

  4. This week was my first week where things felt right again! I have my new fitbit and I bought new running shoes – mine had a hole in the sole – so it was a good week. Congrats on making your goal this week again 🙂

    • Thanks so much! Glad you are back on track. I’m thinking of getting a heart monitor, but I haven’t taking the time to research yet. Do you have a step goal, or are you just keeping track?

      • I’m aiming for 6,000 steps a day. I’m still falling a bit short of it the last week, but in July I was nailing it. They say we should hit 10,000 steps a day, but I’m not there yet.

  5. That’s great you are meeting your goal!! I’m trying hard to keep mine but I did better this week. I have to stop making excuses. Work has been stressful so exercising is helping to clear my mind (and release some frustrations). Have a great week!!

    • Thanks! I’m glad you are finding time to exercise as well! I have found that I am really enjoying listening to audiobooks, which just takes me away and helps me forget what’s going on in the “real world” while I walk.

  6. I haven’t been active as much as I wanted to so far this month, but hopefully I will be better in the 2nd half of August 😉

    Congrats on reaching your goal.

    • Thanks, Aleksandra. I’m glad to hear that you are continuing to keep at it, even if the first half of the month didn’t go as planned. What can we do to help you out?

I need to get back into working out, I got injured and it has taken awhile to heal.

    • Are you cleared for activity? Is there something you can do that won’t aggravate the injury? We are here to help you out, just let me know!!

      • sony killian

I’m cleared to workout. I’ve been riding my bike, but the old injury gets aggravated easily. I was helping the hubs move some furniture and it flares up. I just have to watch what I do or it’s no working out for me. Thank you! HUGS

yay you!! Keep up the good work Jen. I had a good week last week but off to a slow start this week … the wind is howling and Bella doesn’t like her walks in the wind .. ok ‘fessing up, I hate the wind lol

    • Thanks so much. Walking in the wind is not the best – but at least it’s not raining?! 🙂 Sometimes it’s tough trying to get out there – it’s a big win when you do, even for a few minutes!
