Weekly Check-in August 29, 2014

Greetings my blogging and walking friends! It is time for your weekly check-in!

This is my last week hosting the weekly #bookblogwalkers check-ins in August for Felicia. She has been such an inspiration for me on my journey, and I am happy to help out and give back. For those who don’t know me, I am Jen Twimom aka @twimom227 on Twitter, and this is my book blog. You can read about my fitness journey on my #bookblogwalkers page. I post a weekly update every Monday, so please feel free to stop by there as well.

How are you doing this week? Did you make any new goals for yourself? Did you get in one day, two days, three days of walking (or other exercise)? Even getting up and moving for 10 minutes will make a difference! I am proud of each of you for making the decision to be a healthier you! Let me know how I can help!

As I’ve been mentioning in the weekly posts, my goal for August is to “move with purpose” for 30 minutes at least 5 days per week, with no more than 1 day off per week. My primary “movement” (aka exercise) is walking. I have kept up with that goal, and I’m contemplating what to do for September. As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve hit a plateau in my weight; hovering a few pounds above my “goal weight.” Last week, Jess suggested that I try mixing in some jogging with my walking, and I did that two days this week. In fact, on Wednesday, I walk/jogged a total of 4 miles, with the middle two miles at an 11 min/mile pace! So I think I will try to keep this up for a while – making my goal in September to walk/jog two of the six days, still going 30+ minutes on at least five days.

Felicia is still hosting her monthly giveaway, so don’t forget to add your name to the linky below to throw your name in the hat! For more information and to sign up for August, please visit Felicia’s site. Also, be sure to leave a comment here with your progress so that we can all cheer you on!

Another good week for you Jen. Well done on doing some jogging in there. My jogging days are over, but grateful for being able to walk! Thanks for hosting during August.

    • Thanks Kathryn. I’ve enjoyed hosting and happy to help out Felicia anytime! I haven’t jogged consistently in 5+ years, and not as my main source of exercise since before kids! We’ll see how it goes.

Great job, Jen. My Month-to-Date averages are 9,141.64 steps/day and 3.96 miles/day. My goal is to be sure to go at least 8,000 steps on two out of the three days of the long weekend. That is where I have the most trouble. Too much reading. 🙂

    • Wow! I am still amazed by your average step count. So impressive. I am going to go for a walk/run this morning, and hope to get in at least 30 minutes every day during the long weekend. We can do it!

congrats on the new goal! Umm… it’s been a terrible week for me walking wise. I blame the weather 🙂 We’ve had a week of non stop thunderstorms in the morning and evening, right at my walking time!! And my dog is like “nuh uh!!”. So hoping that next week will be better!

    • UGH! I hate when weather interferes with exercising. I find that I really struggle using the indoor machines now that I’m a tried and true walker. Maybe try doing some jumping jacks and such in place for ten minutes?! That will keep you moving a little!

Thanks 🙂 Or I can finally stop procrastinating and use the apartment “gym”.It’s a treadmill and some free weights but something is better than nothing, right 🙂

I’m so glad the added jogging is working out for you. Eleven mile per minute rate, wow! When I do a bit of light jogging, it’s very short and not very fast. I’m been consistent about exercising the last week, and reading yours and everyone’s goals helps me to keep at it.

    • thanks Jess! It’s nice to have the confidence to jog again. I used to train at a 9:30 min/mile pace, way back in the day… Glad to know that this older lady can still do okay!

Glad we are helping you work on your exercising as well! It’s so much better to do with friends! Keep it up!

Thanks so much for hosting this month!

I am not able to jog – bad knees and all, but I do power walking and can feel the difference when I do that as opposed to just regular walking.

    • We do what we can do and you are doing great by getting out there! I worry about knees now that I’m older, but I will try to listen to my body and go from there! Great job on the power walking and keep going!!

  6. Great week! I’ve hit a plateau in my weight too so I need to change up my exercise too. I’ll try to jog/walk and hopefully that helps. Have a great week!!

You had a great week Jen, well done! I’ve added a couple of minutes jogging to my walk but it’s baby steps lol. Thanks for hosting in August 🙂

That’s a great goal for September. I’m hoping to do the same with mixing in the jogging with the walking.
