What I’m Talking About:
This is one of those books that you wonder whether there’s going to be a happily-ever-after. And whether all the characters you’ve come to love will survive. Until. The. End. Midnight Action, the fifth title in Elle Kennedy’s Killer Instincts series, is the book that had me running the gambit of emotions. And I wished I didn’t have a thing to do so I could devour it in one setting.
I have been WAITING for this book! I love the sexual tension between Jim and Noelle. The first time these two characters appeared together in a room in the Killer Instincts series, I was like ‘do the deed already!’ because of the chemistry between them. But, here’s the thing. The suspense KILLED ME!
First, I HAVE to talk about Liam. And how I hope he gets his own book. And I hope his HEA is with Sully. There. I said it. Once you read this title, you’re going to be rooting for this to be the next book, too. I wanted to add a couple things about the rest of Jim’s crew. Seems like they’d be super easy to get along with. And, probably pretty easy on the eyes *wink*wink*. They also have a good sense of humor. Noelle’s chameleons didn’t play a very big role. I think there were one or two of them mentioned.
The relationship between Noelle and Jim was forged in the past. I love the way Ms. Kennedy uses flashbacks to acquaint her reader with the good ol’ days. Understanding exactly WHY these two have such animosity really threw me off-kilter. But dang, they’re so smokin’ hot together. *fans self*
Jim is a textbook alpha male. He’s large and in-charge of all aspects of his life. As a character, Jim has a great arc in the story. I really did fall for him at the beginning of the book. I continued to love him through the middle of the book. And at the end? *bam* Blew. My. Mind. I vote Jim character-most-changed.
Noelle’s past makes so much sense to me! I think that Noelle really had it tough growing up. Also, as much as I’d like to think that Noelle was strong and independent, that’s not the case.
It’s difficult to review suspense books for me. I worry that I’ll give away part of the plot. Midnight Action is no exception. I look forward to future titles in this series.
My Rating: A, Loved It
About the Book:
She’s got a broken heart…
and a fully loaded arsenal….
Ex–army ranger Jim Morgan leads a team of elite mercenaries, but eighteen years ago in Paris, he was part of a black ops unit whose mission was to hunt down a rogue operative. In order to trap the criminal, Jim seduced Noelle, the man’s daughter—a ruthless act that cost him the love of his life and turned her into a mortal enemy. Now he can’t trust her, but he still desires her. He also needs her help….
Older, wiser, and unwilling to play the fool again, Noelle runs a group of highly skilled assassins. And she’s just been offered the hit of the century: Eliminate Jim Morgan. History gives them no reason to trust each other, but with their lives in jeopardy at the hands of a common enemy, the lines between love and hate are soon blurred. Now Noelle and Jim must face the past if they want to have a future—let alone a future together.
