Welcome to #FitReaders!! Felicia the Geeky Blogger and I are super excited to be co-hosting this fitness-oriented group for 2015. During the months of April – June, 2015, I am hosting the official check-ins and quarterly giveaway.

It is time to Commit to Exercise for May 2015! Whether you are just joining us, need to get back on the wagon, or continuing your monthly progress, now is the time to stand up and say “I’m in! I’m committed to getting up and getting moving!”

So are you ready to commit to fit? Remember there will be weekly check-ins on Fridays both here and at Felicia’s blog, motivation on twitter (#FitReaders), and a group over on Facebook (let me know if you want to be added).

Let’s get this month started by adding your link down below. Everyone who commits to exercise using the linky during April, May, and June will be entered to win some sort of FABULOUS PRIZE. Right now it looks like the prize will be some sort of gift card and possibly a fitness kit including a headband and water bottle, but it’s not set, so if you have any suggestions, please let me know! Add your name and leave a comment telling us what your goals for May are.

Note: you do not have to have a blog to participate. You can use any URL to sign up, including your Twitter, FaceBook, GoodReads, or Booklikes site. Please let me know if you have any problems signing up.

My Goals:

My overall goals for 2015 are to keep up my current level of exercise, maintain my goal weight, and log my food intake every day for the year. I also want to add some races in once the weather warms up.

As for May 2015, my primary goal is to make sure I continue get out and move. I plan to move with purpose for 30 minutes each day, taking off no more than one day per week. I also want to take one BodyFlow (yoga) Class per week. In addition, I will log my food/caloric intake each day using the LostIt! app. Finally, I recently joined the Fitbit crew and will be tracking my steps. In addition to “exercising” I want to take 10,000 steps and move for 4 miles each day (with no more than one day off per week). Are you on Fitbit? Send me a friend request at twimom227 (at) gmail (dot) com!

Weekly Check-in:

If you have a weekly check-in blog post or put your updates on any social media site, please leave a link to your check-in posts in the comment section, below. Or, if you want to use this post as your weekly check-in, leave a comment telling us how your week went!

My Week:

Another good week for me! I have been off for the kids’ school vacation, so I’ve been able to really get out and walk around! Plus with the Fitbit, I find sometimes I’ll march in place while waiting around or such. I am down 0.8 pounds and back to my “regular” weight, stopping that three week increase! I’m also trying to get some photos while I’m out and about (thank you Blodeuedd!) Here is a shot of the marsh behind my neighborhood. It’s mostly freshwater, with very little tidal impact.

My Movement:
Friday: none
Saturday: 32 minutes walking
Sunday: 49 minutes walking
Monday: 45 minutes walking
Tuesday: 64 minutes walking
Wednesday: 47 minutes walking
Thursday:  50 minutes BodyFlow + 60 minutes walking

Questions for YOU!

Thanks to all those who left comments last week about the quarterly prize. For those who didn’t, it’s not too late! As you all know, I’m hosting the second quarter #FitReaders and am responsible for the prizes awarded at the end of June. I’m wondering what to offer up as a prize and want input for you folks! I need something that can be sent anywhere – we have international participants. It can’t be too heavy or expensive, but fun, enjoyable, etc. Of course, one option is a gift card – it could be to Amazon or Barnes & Noble, or someplace else. I could do water bottles, t-shirts, headbands, etc. What do you think? Leave me some suggestions, please. I’ll look into it and then come back later with my follow up.

How was your week? Did you hit any milestones? Try a new food or workout? Celebrate your week with us!

My week was so-so. Steps were inconsistent but that’s something to work for next week.

  2. Congrats on losing the weight and having another good week! That’s awesome! Yay for joining the Fitbit gang! I love mine…it has become an obsession to get my steps every day. I feel like this is the worst week I have had in steps and hopefully next week, or even this weekend, I’ll get my steps back up.

Hey! That’s great that you got down to your regular weight. Your backyard looks really pretty. I only go around this very small area in my block so it’s too boring to photograph especially since it’s just houses. For a prize I’m thinking a workout tank top and water bottle.
I had a good week although, I didn’t get to walk or run like I usually do because of the weather.

    • thanks Adriana! My neighborhood is small like yours. That marsh is at the back of the neighborhood – I look out into someone else’s backyard. LOL.

Yay you! I’m happy because – almost two months later – I’m back to the weight I was before I screwed up my knee. Down 1.6 pounds this week! I’ve averaged 6.72 miles a day this week. Last week I walked nearly 40 miles! Feeling SO much better 🙂

good for you for the weight loss. 🙂

I had a good week step wise. It helped boost my total months steps/miles since classes had wrecked that. Every day has been almost 21k plus steps with yesterday at 26k (work and pet stress pushed me) being in 5 workweek hustle challenges has been motivational. I hit the gym for weights on M/Tu/W so that I could go to Age of Ultron last night.
I am starting to see some changes especially in my arms and back. My legs are tiring less when I am running and my speed has increased some.

    • WOW! You are a mad-woman! Great work. Those workweek hustle challenges are great – I just finished my first one. It got me to go out and walk yesterday afternoon, even though I didn’t feel like it!

More like overly competitive on my part :D. I ended up winning all 5 challenges but was walking until 11pm last night to get one of them (108k steps for 5 days). I did have a beer to celebrate! I am taking the weekend off from step goals and cleaning my place!

I am. My little running buddy pup got fixed Friday so we are taking some time off to recover. She’s not liking the down time much but I want her to heal well.

      • Kristin T.

5 challenges – that’s crazy! I thought it was a lot being part of 2! You go girl for winning all of them!!!

      • gk nelson

the bad part was I had to turn down a couple. I was a total bum this weekend. I slept thru police chases in Hot Fuzz.

I figured out I got a little obsessed about it so taking a few weeks off since the next two are going to be pretty busy.

Thanks! My family is very competitive.

    Apparently forgot monthly goals!
I will continue weight lifting in addition to my running. Running is a few miles 3 to 4 times a week until the weight DOM’s get worked out completely. I need to pick a local 10k/5mi race soon.

  7. Carole

    Yayy! The linkie is back!!
Mine was okay. I certainly made up for my lazy days on Friday.

    • Thanks Carole. I am only using the Linky on the monthly sign ups – that’s why you don’t see it during the regular Friday check-ins. Do you feel it adds a lot to have it? Basically, I’m lazy and don’t do it every week b/c it adds extra work.

  8. Kathryn Trask

Looks like a good week for you Jen. I have one more day in my week to go, I think I will make my goal but with nothing extra to show for it!

  9. Good luck this week! Yay for being down a little this week. I’m doing the food journal bit too. Gotta get the herd pup and myself moving though. We so don’t like the out of doors. Especially when it’s cold and rainy. ::shudders::

    • Great job starting back tracking food. I’ve been doing it with th LoseIt! app for over a year and I find it’s a must. Even if I overeat, I’m held accountable for it all. I gain weight one week – I can see it in the journal. I hope it helps you!

  10. Karen

I have fallen off the wagon a bit. We had a house plumbing emergency and a sick dog and that totally threw me off. But I’m making sure I squeeze in 10 minutes of something a day and building back up.

I need to write a post soon. It keeps me honest lol

    Karen @For What It’s Worth

    • So glad you checked-in with us, Karen! Sounds like you are on the right track after a bit of a slide. 10 minutes a day makes a difference. And keep checking in even if you don’t have a post! Congrats!

    • Yea!! I have enjoyed my first week using the Fitbit. And it makes a difference. For example, yesterday evening, I had 400 steps to make goal, so I walked around my house until I reached my goal. Then sat down and vegged!

      Hope your back is better!

      • Kristin T.

Oh, I’ve been known to pace my house to get those last few steps in, too! And then there’s the challenges – trying to be on the top of the leader board will get you moving, too 🙂

  11. Bride of the Book God

14.5km so just underneath my weekly target. Fairly happy with that give work is still so busy.

  12. teddyree

Congrats on your weight loss and another great week. When I’m not intentionally exercising I pace up and down the hallway while I’m on the phone lol. It counts doesn’t it? I didn’t quite hit my step goals this week though. I’m definitely in for May 🙂

    • Steps are steps!! I look at movement in two ways – moving with purpose to elevate your heart rate (exercise) and background movement to burn calories (steps). Both count!! Great idea!
