Each June, audiophiles from around the country celebrate all things audiobook. Since we love to listen and review audiobooks here at That’s What I’m Talking About, we are participating in our own Audiobook celebration.
What would an audiobook be without a narrator? As part of Audiobook Month, we are spotlighting various narrators so you can learn a bit more about who they are and what they do.
Narrator Spotlights!
Today we shine the spotlight on:
Do you have a pseudonym you’d like to share?
CJ Bloom
Tell us how long have you been narrating books?
Five Years.
What genres do you cover? Do you have a favorite?
All genres! I love YA, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Fiction, and of course Romance.
Do you do any other voice work or acting?
Yes, I am a character, Wicke, this season on Pokemon! I have voiced numerous commercials, promos, animation, and video games. I have acted in NYC for over ten years in various productions and independent films. I have also written and produced my own work.
What is your favorite job to date?
I have been so fortunate to not only befriend the novelist, Amy Poeppel, but to narrate both of her novels, Small Admissions and the newly released Limelight. They are written so well and an absolute joy to perform.
How do prepare for a job? Does the preparation depend on the genre or type of book?
Hands down, I definitely count on my years in acting school, and as a performer on the stage to help me prepare. It is essential to understanding dialogue and intention and understanding human behavior. I don’t always get the opportunity to communicate with the author prior to recording, but when I do it always enhances the performance. I always prep the book prior to recording. And in this process I am figuring out the characters, their relationship to one another, and most importantly their purpose and what they want. Then I let all of that go, and begin on page one and just go where the story and mood take me on the day. And just immerse myself in the story and turn my imagination all the way up.
If you could narrate any book or work with any author past or present, what would you choose? Why?
I pretty much love everything. BUT, the genre most fun for me to perform is humor. Nora Ephron would be a dream to narrate. Or Dorothy Parker.
Anything else you’d like to share?
I have the next installment in the Fixed series by Laurelin Paige coming soon. This is HUGE because this was the first bestselling series I had ever been cast in.
