What I’m Talking About:

The Lemon Sisters is the third full-length novel in the Wildstone series by Jill Shalvis and my favorite in the series so far.

I am a sucker for second chance romances, especially when the hero and heroine have been separated for a few years. The Lemon Sisters features two sisters, Brooke and Mindy. Brooke is the younger sister who has wanderlust. She’s been traveling the world after high school with her job as a photographer. She left their small town home of Wildstone seven years ago and now lives in LA.

Mindy stayed in Wildstone and now has three kids and a husband, and they live in her childhood home (after they bought it from her parents). Mindy is the sister who has it all together until she shows up on Brooke’s doorstep in LA with her three kiddos and having a meltdown.

Brooke offers Mindy her place for a few days while she takes the kiddos home to Wildstone. Brooke wants to face her past and set a few things right. Besides spending time with her family she also wants to make amends to Garrett, her best friend, and secret boyfriend.

Brooke and Garrett work through their issues of her leaving him seven years ago. Their relationship is sweet, sexy and a touch sad. They had some big things to work out. I loved seeing them come together, they have witty banter and chemistry that jumps off the page.

The Lemon Sisters plot is split between Brooke/Garrett, Mindy/Brooke, and Mindy/Linc.

Linc is Mindy’s husband, and their marriage is on the rocks which is what brought Mindy to Brooke’s doorstep with the meltdown. Mindy has been raising the three kiddos (oh my gosh I loved these kids!) by herself why Linc looks long hours as a doctor. Mindy is lonely and thinks Link may be cheating on her (no cheating, don’t worry!). Watching this married couple work through their issues was heartwarming.

With all those second chances of reconnecting between family, best friends and lovers, there was one more second chance threat in the story. The one between Garrett and his father. Garrett grew up next door to the Lemon sisters because his dad was an alcoholic who left him to the foster system. If I was a crier, I would have cried a few times reading The Lemon Sisters.

I adored the family, friendship, and love in this story and I highly recommend you pick up a copy of The Lemon Sisters. You can easily read it as a stand alone.

My Rating:  A, Loved It

About the Book:

Brooke Lemon has always led the life she wanted, wild adventures—and mistakes—included, something her perfect sister, Mindy, never understood. So when Mindy shows up on Brooke’s doorstep in the throes of a break-down with her three little kids in tow, Brooke’s shocked.

Wanting to make amends, Brooke agrees to trade places, taking the kids back to Wildstone for a few days so Mindy can pick up the pieces and put herself back together. What Brooke doesn’t admit is she’s just as broken . . . Also how does one go home after seven years away? It doesn’t take long for Brooke to come face-to-face with her past, in the form of one tall, dark, sexy mistake. But Garrett’s no longer interested. Only his words don’t match his actions, leaving Brooke feeling things she’d shoved deep.

Soon the sisters begin to wonder: Are they lemons in life? In love? All they know is that neither seems to be able to run far enough to outpace her demons. And when secrets surface, they’ll have to learn that sometimes the one person who can help you the most is the one you never thought to ask.
