I’ve not read many romances with widowers, but the ones I have, have been so touching, especially when they have children. Zach is a single dad who lost his wife a couple of years ago. He works hard as a divorce attorney, and he’s not a player or jaded. He is a champion to his clients. He works to keep (mostly women) from getting run over by their soon to be ex-husbands who are usually on the douchy side.
Across the hall of the brownstone Zach’s office is located in, is Piper the cheery wedding planner. The two have been frienemies for years. They share college friends and they have great banter chemistry.
Piper has become a great friend to Lucy, Zach’s ten-year-old daughter. When Lucy is visiting dad at the office she often pops over to Piper’s office to look at all the pretty wedding things she has. Piper and Zach have a recipe for greatness if they can just stop thinking the other dislikes them. They have both been having secret naughty thoughts for a while, and when they are thrown together to plan their friend’s wedding they get to know each other better and start falling for each other.
Never Have I Ever is a great romance between two beautiful people and the funny children they love. I had all the feel-good emotions while listening. While Never Have I Ever is a stand-alone romance there are connections with characters from other stories. Piper was mentioned in Birthday Suit and two of the couples in Never Have I Ever get their stories told in Satisfaction Guaranteed and Instant Gratification.
I am a huge fan of Amanda Ronconi’s narration work on Molly Harper’s novels and I was delighted to see she is now working on titles for Lauren Blakely. It did take me a bit to get out of Harper’s writing style mindset to get into Blakely’s. They both have great characters which include strong and funny heroines. Ronconi delivered Piper’s POV beautifully.
Jason Clarke is a favorite of mine by now. He is not new to Blakely’s writing and I adore his voice and delivery. He handles Zach’s POV like a pro.
About the Book:
Never Have I Ever been so infuriated by a man I wanted to kiss.
They say opposites attract, but I beg to differ. Combust is more like it. Because every single time I talk to Zach Nolan, I see red.
The too-good-looking, too-smart, too-effortlessly-charming single dad who works down the hall from me has turned getting under my skin into a sport. Call it the battle of wits between the wedding planner and the divorce attorney. Trouble is, when we’re forced into closer quarters, planning an engagement party for our best friends, I start to see his other sides.
And I fear I’m falling for the enemy.
I’m not out to make friends. My goals are simple — fight till the end for my clients, and my family. The last thing I need is a vibrant, outgoing, snarky, and surprisingly big-hearted wedding planner to spend my precious free time with…except, watching Piper bond with my daughter just might break down the cinder block walls I’ve built around my heart these last few years. Second chances don’t come around for guys like me…or do they?
