The Duke is But a Dream
Author: Anna Bennett
What I’m Talking About:
The Duke is But a Dream is a charming tale about expectations, forgiveness, remaining true to oneself, and learning to love despite the messiness of it. Honestly I think the best way to summarize the book is with Lily’s own words: it is a tale about “… two souls, both a little lost, who found something incredibly special in each other.”
The characters in the novel are beautifully flawed, and who compliment one another in all the right ways; for example where Lily is impulsive, Nash is methodical; where Nash is ruled by society and its expectations, Lily is forward thinking and moving. The collision of their worlds forces them both to evaluate what is truly important to them and what they might be willing to compromise on.
Neither Lily nor Nash has any personal experience with love but both have very distinct opinions based on the experiences of those they love and what they have seen, and those opinions make their road to love a bumpy one at best. But the lessons they learn as their story unfolds are poignant, funny, heart-wrenching, and heart-warming, making the sometimes uncomfortable bumpy ride worth the trip.
If you enjoy strong characters with heart and fire, then I think you will enjoy The Duke is But a Dream. I know I enjoyed every minute with these little lost souls as they discovered what was truly special about the other.
My Rating: A, Loved It
About the Book:
She’s a secret sensation.
Miss Lily Hartley is the anonymous mastermind behind the ton’s latest obsession: The Debutante’s Revenge, a tell-all advice column for young ladies. To keep her identity hidden, Lily delivers her columns disguised as a boy―which is well and good, until she lands in the middle of tavern brawl. As luck would have it, a devastatingly handsome duke sweeps in to rescue her.
He has no idea who she is.
Eric Nash, Duke of Stonebridge, discovers there’s a beautiful woman hiding beneath a lad’s cap, and, before long, he’s falling for the delightfully clever stranger recuperating in his house. He vows to help her find her home, even though he’s reluctant to part with her. There’s only one problem…
Neither does she.
Lily has no idea who she is. She could be a duchess or maid. Betrothed or married. There’s only one thing she does know―that her attraction to Nash is more than skin-deep, and it grows stronger every day. While Lily and Nash search to find her true identity, they just might lose their hearts to each other…
