Wicked Cowboy Wolf

What I’m Talking About:
In the third book in the Seven Range Shifters series, Wicked Cowboy Wolf by Kait Ballenger we get a second chance romance, making it my favorite in the series so far.
Jared, aka the Rogue, has made a name for himself has the king of the rogue werewolves. He is tall, dark, handsome even with the scars on his face, and he’s a criminal. Mae is the little sister to the pack master of the Grey Wolf territory and the Rogue’s enemy.
A war between the shifters and vampires has been brewing in the series, and in the second book Cowboy in Wolf’s Clothing, Rogue helped Mae escape from the vampires after they took her for her blood to make a serum. This serum makes shifter blood valuable to vampires because it will make them stronger after drinking from a shifter. Rogue may have seemed like a hero when he helped Mae escape but he had an interior motive.
Mae finds him in her room late at night after she spots him at a gala hosted at the Grey Wolf ranch. He saves her yet again from vampires as the Grey ranch is attacked. They spend time on the run together until he gets her to one of his many houses.
Mae is a “guest” of Rogue and while under his watch, she gets to know some of the rogues who live with him. Mae starts seeing the group as regular people just like her friends and family. Rogue werewolves are not the bad guys that pack weres have made them out to be. Their outdated laws are the reason some weres can’t join a pack. Something as simple as stealing food to survive has made some weres rogues.
Wicked Cowboy Wolf focuses on Rogue and Mae’s story outside of the setting of the Grey ranch. Mae has a strong pull toward Rogue not realizing that he is her best friend from childhood and the only man she has ever loved, Jared. Mae along with many others believe the fifteen-year-old boy died twenty years ago for a murder he didn’t commit. Mae has never gotten over the events that happened the night she thought Jared was sentenced to death. They try to fight their attraction, her because he is THE Rogue and him because he knows he would never be able to live without her if he allowed himself to finally have the woman he loves. He has thought all these years he was not worthy of her.
Wicked Cowboy Wolf is a fantastic paranormal romance where childhood best friends get a second chance at love. There’s heat, tenderness, laughter, sadness, and danger. I also like the difference in how the person’s mind is still present when they shift into their wolf form. Other shifter stories I’ve read the animal takes over and the human doesn’t remember what the animal does. It’s like the human goes to sleep while the animal calls the shots. Mrs. Ballenger’s shifters have duel forms with one mind.
I can’t wait for more from the Seven Range Shifters series. There are a few Grey wolves who need a story, not to mention some of the rogues we’ve met need a story too. I really liked Murtagh, the Scottish rogue wolf. Mrs. Ballenger must be an Outlander fan. The name, Scottish brogue and the character reminded me so much of Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser.
My Rating: A, Loved it
