February 25, 2020: What’s your favorite underrated book/series?
This is a tough one for me. How do I know if a book or series is underrated? I do recall one that is a bit older, but I still pimp it all the time: the Disillusionist series by Carolyn Crane. Mind Games, released in 2010, kicks of this unique urban fantasy series and remains one of my all-time favorites. The story takes place in the heart of Midcity, a twisted urban metropolitan, where a secret group of individuals, the Disillusionists, are learning to debase and reset dangerous criminals. Their teacher and leader, Packard, teaches his gang how to transfer their negative (and extreme) emotional darkness into others, causing the victim to question who they are and see their crimes in a new light. Packard, however, is trapped in a restaurant by his mysterious nemesis and will do whatever it takes to get free. You really, really need to read this amazing UF series!
Another more recent book that didn’t get a lot of coverage, but that I absolutely loved, is Spellbound by Allie Therin. It’s the first book in her m/m, historical Magic in Manhattan series, and I was engrossed from beginning to end and cannot wait for the next title. The Magic in Manhattan series is set in the Prohibition days of New York City. Part historic romance, part paranormal adventure, the book is 100% wonderful entertainment.
I know that I could probably list a dozen more titles, but these are two good ones. What about you…
