March 24, 2020: Spring Break post: COVID-19 and Comfort Reads
This week, Tell Me Something Tuesday is on Spring Break; however, I am not, so I thought I’d post a little something here. Since pretty much everyone of us is stuck at home or inside, and live is very different with the realities of COVID-19, I thought we could talk about Comfort Reads. When times get hectic, what books do you like to go to for comfort? It may be a genre, a favorite author, or a series/book you read over and over.
I don’t do a lot of re-reading these days – too many books out there to spend a lot of time on books I’ve already read. But I do like to go back to almost any book written by Ilona Andrews: Kate Daniels, Innkeeper Chronicles, and Hidden Legacy being my favorites. While the series are comforting, the books themselves are some of my favorites and bring about a comforting feeling when I read them. I may cry and worry, but I also laugh and celebrate. These books are familiar and are like my own “blanket forts.”
I also like to read low-conflict contemporary romances when I need some comfort. Usually they are “small town” stories, but anything that makes me laugh and doesn’t make me too angry. I like my HEAs and when times are crazy.
