May 12th: Name some of your favorite book friendships.
This is tough because I know there are a million out there I love, but I can’t think of them right now.
The first that pops into my head are the gang from Jill Shalvis’s Heartbreaker Bay series. Right from the start,
I enjoyed each of the characters who live, work, and play in a mixed-use complex in San Fransisco. Ms. Shalvis created a world in which I want to live and play. The friendships are tight and fun. The neighborhood is quirky and quaint. I’m ready to move in.
Another group I thought of is Nya, Ledi, and Portia from Alyssa Cole’s Reluctant Royal series. They support one another – lifting each other up, but also giving each other straight talk and hard answers. I love their group chats and fun humor. Their friendship is strong and supportive.
Probably my favorite book friendship is an unconventional one… that between a dog and his human, where the dog can talk and the human is a thousands year old Druid. From Kevin Hearne’s Iron Druid chronicles comes Oberon, the squirrel-chasing, sausage-loving Irish Wolfhound and his human, Atticus. Brought to life through Hearne’s amazing storytelling and Luke Daniel’s spot-on narration, Atticus and Oberon have a friendship that lasts several lifetimes.
