May 5th: Goodreads reviews: do your round your ratings up or down? Do you think it matters?
UGH! The Goodreads system of whole stars drives me nuts! I wish they did half-stars. Anyhow… I use letter grades on my blog and in my reviews. I created a letter-to-star conversion chart, but it includes half-stars. So when I have a book that is an A-, that would be 4.5 stars. Usually I round down, so in this case, I would give it a 4-star rating on Goodreads. But once in a while, I’ll round up, especially if it was something that was almost up anyhow.
Does it matter? Not really, and that’s because everybody reviews differently and has their own opinion. It’s not like a half-star will make a difference, especially since the reviews for a given book can run from 1-star to 5-star ratings. What gets me going is when a GR user will rate a book that they haven’t read to try and sway an opinion or ranking.
