July 14: Does your reviewing style change depending on the book?
Short answer: Yes.
Longer answer: it mostly depends on the format of the book. For almost all reviews, I typically open the review with a short (1-2 paragraph) synopsis of the plot, followed by what really worked for me and then what didn’t work for me/issues I had with the story. The only time I really veer from that is when I review anthologies.
I have a different format and style for ebooks/print than audiobooks, with the primary difference being the discussion of the narrator and the impact on my enjoyment. I also tend to write shorter reviews for novellas than full-length novels. And in anthologies, I will write short 2-3 sentence reviews for each story. Sometimes I’ll rate each story, but I always give an “overall” rating for the anthology.
