What I’m Talking About:

I’m now seven books deep into the In Death series by J.D. Robb and I can’t wait to keep going.  Holiday in Death brings holiday cheer in the form of a serial killer masquerading as Santa to get entry into his victims’ homes.

Eve is still healing from the last case she worked where she saved Summerset’s life, but that didn’t keep her from returning to work earlier (everyone’s thought but her) from her leave. She may be mentally ready to be back on the job but physically she’s overworking herself and Roarke is not happy about it.

In true Eve fashion, she cannot, will not, lay around while there’s a killer on the loose. Eve, Peabody, McNab, Feeney, Dr. Mira, and unofficially Roarke are on the case of the killer Santa.

Trigger Warning!! this Santa likes to rape his victims while they are bound by tree garland and under the influence of drugs before killing them!

I love seeing Eve and Roarke working together and more importantly I love their relationship. They’ve only been together for about a year but it feels longer than that. I also enjoyed the back and forth between Peabody and McNab. It’s going to be fun watching them interact as the series moves forward.

Holiday in Death was a great addition to the series and I look forward to more of this group of crime fighters.

There’s no narration this time around because I bought a print copy from the bookstore’s clearance section.  The whole time I was reading I had Susan Ericksen’s voice in my head for all the established characters. While I did miss her voice, I still enjoyed reading this installment. I’m glad because with 50+ novels I can’t afford to buy them all on audiobook and my library has a mix of ebook and audio so I’ll be switching back and forth depending on my sources.

My Rating: A, Loved It
