October 20th: Worst character jobs: what are some jobs characters have had that you disliked or would hate to do?
Oh, this is a fun one – I can’t wait to see what others post about! I based my answers on books I’ve read during 2020.
Wedding Planner / Coordinator.
Books: Sunshine Sisters series by Jennifer Probst and The Worst Best Man by Mia Sosa.
I could not tolerate bridezillas, non-interested grooms, and meddling parents. Period. As much as I like helping people, I would not have the patience needed to deal with people going all over the place during such a stressful time. Maybe because my husband and I were pretty laid-back during our wedding planning, and I don’t see how people can get so crazy. I also don’t have the creativity to pull off making someone’s dream come true.
Head of House.
Books: The Hidden Legacy series by Ilona Andrews.
As the head of House Baylor, Catalina is the target of manipulation and a number of assassination attempts. Not only does she have to stay alive, but she must protect her family and all those she loves. Treachery lurks at every turn, and it’s exhausting just trying to get through the day. Too much danger for me.
Police Officer-Detective / Sheriff.
Books: The Hollowcliff Detectives series by C.S. Wilde and A Bad Day for Sunshine by Darynda Jones.
As much as I love following a character solve a mystery, I could not handle being an officer of the law. I am weak and get queasy at the site of blood, and I would not be able to deal with murder – seeing what these characters see (both human and non-human). I would need to build the world’s largest blanket fort and camp out on a daily basis. No thanks!
