Audiobook Review: Call Me Maybe by Cara Bastone
Call Me Maybe is a series of firsts for me. New to me author, Cara Bastone, and new to me narrators Luci Christian and Neil Hellegers. I enjoyed them all.
Bastone’s writing was fun, she develops a story and characters who kept me entertained. Luci Christian and Neil Hellegers delivered the story delightfully.
Call Me Maybe is about Vera, a small business owner who calls tech support to get help with her website where she gets Cal as her customer service rep. They stay on the phone for hours getting her site fixed. The reason they stay on the phone for hours is that Cal is sweet and is worried about her being stuck on the side of the road while her car breaks down while they are on the phone.
They get to know each other during the looooong call. They have chemistry and talk easily with each other. Cal is a geek and probably only opens up to Vera because of the safety of not being face to face. Vera explains her business to Cal and they also have personal conversations about their lives, with Cal warning Vera to not give out too much personal info to strangers. But with Vera being the type of person who never meets a stranger, he has to warn her over and over.
Luci Christian and Neil Hellegers do a bang-up job of performing Call Me Maybe. The production was great. When they were on the phone together one voice was altered to sound like they were on the phone while one was clear. Then when the POVs changed the sound changed. The overall writing, narration, and production were great.
Call Me Maybe was a great way to spend a day listening to two people meet and crush hard on each other over the span of a week over the phone to finally meet in person at the end. Sweet and charming romance in the making that will surely end in a HEA.

About the Book:
True love is on the line in this charming, laugh-out-loud rom-com—created specifically for the audio format!
Paint your toes. Pick up the wrong coffee and bagel order. Drive from Brooklyn to Jersey in traffic so slow you want to tear your hair out. It’s amazing all the useless things I can accomplish while on hold for three hours with customer service. Three hours when I should be getting the Date-in-a-Box website ready to launch at the big business expo in a few days. Except my shiny new website is glitching, and my inner rage-monster is ready to scorch some earth… when he finally picks up. Not the robot voice I expected but a real live human named Cal. He’s surprisingly helpful and really knows his stuff, even if he’s a little awkward…in an adorable way.
And suddenly I’m flirting with him? And I think he’s flirting back.
And suddenly it’s been hours, and we’re still on the phone talking and ordering each other takeout while he troubleshoots my website.
And suddenly we’re exchanging numbers and sending texts and DMs every day, leaving voice mails (who even does that anymore?!).
And suddenly I’m wondering if it’s possible for two people to fall in love at first talk.
Because I’m falling… hard.
