December 8th: How do you organize your Goodreads shelves?

Oh… I wish I did better at this. Right now, I basically only use my shelves to organize by genre and if I’m currently reading, to read, or read. I also tag a book if it’s an audiobook or part of a reading challenge. I will note if a book is LGBTQ. Sometimes, I will tag a book based on type of paranormal, for example “magic,” “fae,” or “shifters,” but I’m not consistent. I do try to tag “holiday” for those books holiday-centric and “novella” if it’s shorter. I do have a “favorite” shelf, but I don’t always remember to use it.

I wish I had created better shelves when I started, for example, different tropes (friends to lovers, second chance, etc.), which would make it easier to participate in things like #rombklove. I also wish I’d tag for authors of color, own voice, and if main characters are people of color. I used to add author and series tags, but since one can search so easily by author and/or series, I stopped doing that a few years ago. So some books are on series shelves and others are not.
