Amalie Howard

Today I’m happy to welcome historical romance author Amalie Howard to the blog. She’s answering a few questions and telling us more about her upcoming release. Please help me welcome Amalie!

Featured Author Q and A:

What is your newest/upcoming release? Tell us about the book and series.

My next release is RULES FOR HEIRESSES, out on October 26! I was really excited to write this book because it’s a diverse, interracial Victorian historical romance. What I loved about Bridgerton on Netflix was the casting and the diverse representation. It made me feel seen, and who doesn’t like seeing themselves in books or on screen. I feel that history has excluded people of color from its narrative, and as an AAPI author of color, who was born in the Caribbean, I wanted to show that we were very present in those times ,and that we, too, are worthy of love. I’m also in an interracial marriage, and while I do address sensitive subjects like race and class in the novel because I don’t want to sanitize history but also want to be thoughtful and respectful, my goal was to show that love can be the universal connector in a world where some people might feel out of place and/or alone. We all deserve to be loved.

What is your favorite thing about the Coastal Magic Convention?

I love Coastal Magic!! I’m most excited about seeing my author friends and reader friends, as well as meeting new readers. This will be the first event I am doing in person, which is kind of awesome because Coastal Magic in 2019 was the last in-person event I did. So we’ve come full circle.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be? Why?

Super speed so I can hit my deadlines more quickly. Lol.

Do you use real or fictional locations in your stories? What kind of research do you do for the setting?

I love this question, particularly because I write historical romance. I do have a minor degree concentration in Western European History so research is my passion. I use a combination of real and fictional locations, mostly to keep the sense of authenticity. I want my readers to feel immersed in the setting, so I usually do quite a bit of research in both era and location. I feel that accuracy is important, especially when used in tandem with creative liberty.

CMCon Quickies:

Coffee or Tea? Both.
Beach or Pool? Beach.
Mermaids: real or fictional? Real! (I wrote a YA series with my twist on mermaids, based on the theory that they were aliens from another planet, hiding in our oceans).
Cozies or police procedurals? Neither.
Cats, dogs, pigs, or other? Cat lady, all the way.

THANKS so much for playing along, Amalie! Now let’s learn more about her upcoming title:

Rules for Heiresses

Book cover of Rules for Heiresses by Amalie HowardUSA Today bestselling author Amalie Howard whisks you away with a historical romance full of drama, true love, and the perfect happily ever after.

Readers will devour this tale of:
·         A rebellious heiress determined to be independent
·         A shunned duke forced to return to his family estate
·         And a scandal between them that will have the whole ton aflutter

Sometimes, finding love means flouting the rules…

Born to a life of privilege, Lady Ravenna Huntley rues the day that she must marry. She’s refused dozens of suitors and cried off multiple betrothals, but running away—even if brash and foolhardy—is the only option left to secure her independence.

Lord Courtland Chase, grandson of the Duke of Ashvale, was driven from England at the behest of his cruel stepmother. Scorned and shunned, he swore never to return to the land of his birth. But when a twist of bad luck throws a rebellious heiress into his arms, at the very moment he finds out he’s the new Duke, marriage is the only alternative to massive scandal.

Both are quick to deny it, but a wedding might be the only way out for both of them. And the attraction that burns between them makes Ravenna and Courtland wonder if it’ll truly only be a marriage of convenience after all…
