What I’m Talking About:
Shot Across the Bow is the 5th book in the Deep Six series by Julie Ann Walker, and it’s a stellar addition to the series. This time around we are dealing with friends to lovers, danger, and family issues.
Romeo is the charmer of the Deep Six group and Mia another smart, sassy scientist type. The two have been dancing around their attraction to each other for a couple of books. Both saying they just want to be friends. She thinks this because she doesn’t think she’s Romeo’s type aka pretty enough, and he because he thinks he doesn’t do relationships but really it’s because he doesn’t think he’s good enough for her.
The treasure hunting series arc takes a backseat to the romance and danger surrounding Romeo, Mia, Cami (new character) and Doc. The foursome are trying to survive when Romeo’s plane takes a hit and they have to do a crash landing.
While the group is trapped on a sandbar waiting for rescue, Romeo and Mia finally let go on the secrets they’ve been holding on about their family pasts. While trusting each other more than they ever have, they also finally let their chemistry take them to a place of pleasure.
While the two friends finally become lovers, Doc and Cami, the lawyer hired to help the Deep Six group with issues over rights to the booty of the treasure hunting adventure they’ve been on for the last few years, make connections to each other that I’m sure will resolve in the HEA in the last book of the Deep Six series, Dead in the Water.
We are nearing the end of the series, and I can’t wait to see Doc get an HEA and the group finally get the treasure they’ve been looking for (come on they have to, right? We’ll see).
My Rating: B+ Liked it a lot

About the Book:
Former Navy SEAL Spiro “Romeo” Delgado is six-plus feet of high-octane charm, and he has two hard and fast rules. One, always come to the rescue of those in need. And two, never give up his fast and furious bachelor ways. But when Mia Ennis joins Deep Six Salvage on the hunt for the Santa Cristina, her mesmerizing blend of brains, beauty, and bravery makes him question everything he thought he wanted in life.
Mia’s traumatic past has taught her to keep everyone she meets at arm’s length. But Romeo, with that body that is forever tensed for action and that dark gaze that tracks her every move, makes her feel safe in a way she never expected. Yet the secret she carries compels her to keep her distance—even as the past comes back to haunt them.
A harrowing plane crash ends with Romeo and Mia marooned on a desert island. When a boatful of men bent on murder drop anchor, Mia discovers her only hope for survival depends on her letting her guard down around Romeo. But surrendering to the passion she feels for him might be the most dangerous thing of all…
