What I’m Talking About:

Edgar Bower (E), along with his mother and four brothers, had to up and leave his life overnight. When he was 17, his dad was convicted of laundering money for a drug cartel, and they have been in Witness Protection (WITSEC) for the past decade. E left behind his best friends and the girl he loved. His life has been on hold until the day he could return to his hometown of Windfall and win back Delilah.

50 Ways to Win Back Your Lover kicks off Ms. Siskind’s Bower Brothers series, introducing the five brothers just as they learn they finally have freedom from WITSEC. E, the youngest, is the first to leave their alternate life and heads home to a not-so-friendly welcome. No one knows why the family left overnight and never got in touch with friends.

While I had my reservations about the Witness Protection aspect of the story, it’s over quickly and provides a solid reason for why their lives are so ripped apart. After the initial WHAT? it just felt a natural part of E and Delilah’s story – the author does an amazing job integrating it into the story in such a way that it’s vital and real.

Delilah and E are clearly meant to be. Neither stopped loving the other and was never truly able to move on from being ripped apart at 17. While on paper it seems like after 10 years, two at-the-time teens would be over their first love, when I experience the tale from E’s eyes, I felt so much more. I’m glad that the author allows the characters time to adjust and heal, getting help as needed.

The author has a way with words. She gets me to feel things. At times I had tears in my eyes and my heart was racing. Additionally, Ms. Siskind excels at adding just the right amount of humor and light with the darker, more emotional moments. My emotions were both up and down as I took this journey along side E.

I love that E never gave up and even though he went through bouts of depression, he learned to heal. Even over the course of the book, he changed and grew to realize it does take more than passion and love, and he is able to be the partner Deliliah needs him to be. He is a huge cinnamon roll.

50 Ways to Win Back Your Lover is a beautiful second chance love story filled with humor and heart. I cannot wait to read Desmond’s book, which is sure to pull at my heart-strings.

My Rating:  A-/B+ Enjoyed A Lot

About the Book:

Growing up, I had it all—my art, close friends, a gorgeous girlfriend who owned my heart—but then my life exploded.

Turns out my father was laundering money, and my whole family got shoved into witness protection. No notice. No chance to explain. I was ripped away from beautiful, blue-eyed Delilah Moon, shattering both our worlds.

A decade later, fate has given us a second chance.

The cartel my father worked for has been wiped out. I’ve returned to my hometown, determined to win back the love of my life. But Delilah is engaged.

Or . . . is she?

I’m almost positive she’s lying about her fiancé to protect her heart. Which means I need to up my game.

I’ve made a list of fifty ways to prove we’re meant to be. Except Delilah’s barely looking at me, never mind swooning. I have a feeling my disappearance scarred her more than she’s admitting, and no one in town will tell me what happened . . .
