Featured Author Q and A:
Can you tell us a little bit about your writing: What genres do you write? Do you prefer to write one genre over another?
I write romance. Sometimes I add a splash of danger to it for a little suspense. I enjoy writing about real people with real problems who fight to be with the one they love. Often my writing takes place in small towns because I love seeing a community and families and friends come together to help each other out. It’s all about the love.
What is your newest/upcoming release? Tell us about the book and series.
I had a new book, Perfect Silence, come out late summer. It is the first book in the Sounds of Silence series which will have 3 books and possibly a novella. The series focuses on a Deaf family who live in the Boston area. Perfect Silence is the story of Carli, who got cochlear implants as a late teen. Since her family is all Deaf, as are most of her friends, they feel she is a traitor (many Deaf people feel they don’t need to be ‘fixed’) yet the hearing people she knows still see her as ‘that deaf girl’. She is torn between two worlds. The hero, Blake, is looking for help for his nephew who has been diagnosed with a hearing loss and his wealthy family wants him ‘fixed’. Carli helps him navigate through the process and services the child will need. They grow closer but being from different worlds makes it difficult to find a place where their love is allowed.
What inspires you to write your current book/series?
I grew up with a Deaf sister and her friends, plus have a stepmom who is an ASL (American Sign Language) interpreter and a daughter who is a Deaf Education teacher. This series will focus on the many difficulties DHH (Deaf and Hard of Hearing) people have to deal with in their everyday lives. I want readers to understand what it’s like in the world of silence. So many people are unaware of the hardships and discrimination they face.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? Why?
I haven’t traveled extensively, so it’s hard for me to answer this. I’d want to visit and hang around a place for a while before making any major decisions. With that said, I currently live half the year in New Hampshire (absolutely beautiful, tranquil state) and the other half in St. Augustine, Florida (historically exquisite and interesting). I feel fortunate to be able to be in both these wonderful locations during their best seasons.
Do you use real or fictional locations in your stories? What kind of research do you do for the setting?
Most of my books take place in fictional small towns, and I do this so readers don’t nitpick that there isn’t that store in that specific small town. However, I base my small towns on real places that I know and love. I do have a few stories that are set in large cities and for those I use real cities, yet still use fictional stores and restaurants inside the city. For my New England stories, I don’t really need to do much research as I’ve lived here all my life. For other research, Google is my friend.
What books/genres are you reading right now?
Romance. Always romance!
CMCon Quickies:
Mountains or Water (lake, shoreline)? Absolutely the water!!
Dukes or Cowboys? Let’s ride! Cowboys for sure!
Stranger Things or Bridgerton? Loved all the Bridgerton books. Only watched the first season since the second one strayed too far from the books.
Ketchup, Mustard, or Mayo? All depending on what you’re putting it on.
Coffee or Tea? Tea for me, please!
THANKS so much for playing along!
Now let’s learn more about Kari’s newest title:
Perfect Silence by Kari Lemor
Can he make himself heard in her silent world?
Carli Jameson grew up in a world without sound. Raised in an all-Deaf family, she worked hard to prove those with hearing loss can still be successful. When she meets Blake Wentworth, she knows from their first conversation he’ll never understand how she’s caught between two worlds and struggles to find acceptance.
Pediatrician at a large Boston hospital, Blake has learned how to carry the weight of his wealthy parents’ expectations for perfection. When his nephew is diagnosed with a hearing loss, and his brother is pressured to ‘fix’ the problem, Blake steps in to help.
As they team up to arrange services for his nephew, they discover more than they bargained for and an unexpected attraction. They hit obstacles at every turn, including his family who see her as ‘damaged’. Refusing to be defeated, can Carli and Blake escape the judgement to discover a place where their love is allowed?
