What I’m Talking About:

Mira Chaudhary has spend her adult years running and hiding from her past. When her aunt passes away, she regrets not spending more time with the one solid influence in her life. At the reading of her will, Mira runs into her ex, attorney Naveen Desai, who follows her out of his office in hopes of finding out why she left him. However, in the parking garage, the pair is kidnapped and soon find themselves in a dangerous adventure in Las Vegas.

Partners in Crime is an entertaining story that I liked, but didn’t love. It is more of a buddy adventure/campy heist story than a contemporary romance. The pair goes from one outrageous situation to the next, surviving by luck and instinct. They have a past, and we find out that they were very compatible, but Mira ran. They fall in sync with one another pretty easily, and that allows them to grow close and share the skeletons lurking in their closets. I love how they reconnect – also how Mira reconnects with her childhood friend, and even with her “uncles.” It’s a great journey of self-discovery, more so for Mira than Naveen, but both uncover things about themselves. With that said, I felt like the pair were more best buddies than partners falling in love.

Partners in Crime is a good, fun story, but I wanted more of their romance – not just rehashing the old times and living in fear from moment to moment. The few “romantic” scenes are passionate, but I didn’t feel a deep connection.

About the Book:

Indian Matchmaking meets Date Night in this fun, romantic adventure in which a match-made couple about to be engaged gets caught up in a caper that puts their future—and lives—in danger.

At thirty-five, with a stable job as an accountant, Mira Chaudhary wants nothing more than to find a boring man to spend the rest of her life with. Having had enough excitement in her younger days and desperately trying to escape her dysfunctional past, she turns to a matching app specializing in Indian American singles to help her find someone to settle down with.

Enter Naveen Desai. An English professor with an uneventful, normal, and—dare she say it, boring—life, Naveen is perfect.

But just when things are going well, Mira receives news that her aunt has died. Suddenly a trip to Las Vegas to settle her aunt’s affairs turns into a mad dash to escape kidnappers, evade art thieves, and consorting with hackers who can decipher just what it was Mira’s aunt was involved with. Mira just hopes that Naveen isn’t chased away by the very same life of “excitement” that she’s been trying to get away from. But maybe, over the course of one wild night, Mira and Naveen will find the love connection that neither expected.
