June 27th: What are your least favorite tropes?
In romance, I would have to say the Enemies-to-Lovers trope is my least favorite. I’ve read good ones (Butt-dialing the Billionaire by Annika Martin, Heart Strings by Jennifer Estep), but I don’t seek out the trope because there are several I’ve not liked. I really hate it when the main couple are at odds and in competition with one another – for example applying for the same job. When a pair does things that are hurtful to the other in that competition (for example, sabotage an important project), I find it difficult for me to get over the harmful actions, emotionally. I’ve DNF’d a few books like this. And while, not a trope, per se, I don’t like it when there is a huge secret for the entire book. I need that to come out by the midway point, or I get too stressed out.
